RACEDAY
MONDAY 24TH FEBRUARY 2025
Our third fixture of the new year and we are proud to host our 3rd Jamie’s Farm Charity Race Day, organised and championed by journalist and legendary racing broadcaster Brough Scott and supporting committee. For those that are not aware, Jamie’s Farm offers a preventative solution to young people at risk of social and academic exclusion. Small groups of young people are immersed into farm life during a weeklong residential, or series of day visits, tackling real jobs with tangible outcomes. Within a supportive family environment this encourages cooperation, boosts selfesteem, and builds positive relationships. Jamie’s Farm Lewes is just 3 miles from Plumpton.
I would like to thank our Partners; BetGoodwin and Southern Cranes and Access Ltd for their tremendous support throughout the 2023/24 Season, along with today’s sponsors, Ladbrokes, Alfriston Hotel, Restaurant and Spa, LGT Wealth Management, The Jolly Sportsman, BetGoodwin and Hot To Trot Racing. We wish you all have a tremendous day.
We have an exciting seven-race card featuring 42 declared runners and a total prize pool of £111,750, including the rescheduled BetGoodwin Sussex Stayers Hurdle, which will be contested for a £60,000 prize fund. This demonstrates Plumpton’s dedication to preserving the prestige of this premier event, and we anticipate a thrilling and unforgettable day of racing. The BetGoodwin Sussex Stayers Hurdle is our highlight race today, and this year’s field is highly competitive. Last year, Transmission, trained by Neil Mulholland and ridden by Joe Anderson, claimed victory, defeating Hititi, with Ramo finishing third. This year’s renewal boasts a strong lineup of 9 runners, and we wish all participants the best of luck.
Our next fixture is on Monday, March 10th, when we’ll be hosting our highly anticipated Cheltenham Preview Raceday. In collaboration with BetGoodwin, we’re excited to present an exclusive Cheltenham Preview Panel, offering expert insights into the biggest event in jump racing. From the leading contenders to the must-watch races, you’ll hear directly from the professionals. Don’t miss the chance to book a seat in the Final Fence Restaurant – a unique experience! Indulge in a scrumptious three-course meal while enjoying the perfect view for the panel discussion.
Looking ahead, make sure you plan for our Easter Festival (Premier raceday) which will be held on Sunday 20th and Monday 21st April. By booking now you will secure our best ticket prices as this is a popular racing weekend with both tickets and hospitality always in high demand.
Craig Staddon Chief Executive
Have a great day at Plumpton, Heart Of The Community.
Best wishes

Bumper - Also known as a National Hunt Flat race, this race has no obstacles. Used as a way to give horses race experience before tackling hurdles and fences.
Chase - A race run over fences.
Cheekpieces - A form of headgear which consists of pieces of sheepskin placed on either side of the bridle and performs a similar job as blinkers in helping the horse to concentrate.
Clerk of the course - The person responsible for the overall management of a racecourse on a raceday.

Stewards’ inquiry - An inquiry held at the racecourse on a raceday after any given race
Tongue-tie - A strap used to tie down a horse’s tongue to prevent the tongue getting over the bit which affects a horse’s breathing.
Turn of foot - A term to describe marked acceleration during a race.
Under starter’s orders - Before a race, the starter brings the field of horses into order to prepare them for the start of the race

Smart Flat performer NAP HAND did little wrong in his placed efforts at Kempton and Huntingdon over timber in recent months and it could be third-time lucky for the son of Fast Company. The biggest threat is likely to emerge from Under The Sun, who arrives on the back of a third-placed hurdles bow over C&D, although market support for Syllabus on his debut over obstacles would be interesting.
SELECTION: NAP HAND
2
Danger: Under The Sun
KING ULANDA proved a different proposition when recently scoring on his handicap bow at Musselburgh in ready fashion. The five-year-old should take all the beating racing off an unchanged mark and a quickfire double could be on the cards. A 1lb drop in the ratings can only help Gorcombe Moonshine after his third-placed effort over C&D last month and he may serve the most resistance to the selection, ahead of stable debutant Boskill Borden.
SELECTION: KING ULANDA
3
Danger: Gorcombe Moonshine
Having jumped well when regaining the winning thread at Fontwell last month, dual C&D scorer Uallrightharry must enter the reckoning. However, the veteran hasn’t proven the most consistent in the past and BASFORD rates a more solid proposition. Jennie Candlish’s charge arrives on the back of a solid second at Fakenham and a 1lb drop in the ratings gives him a big shout. Lightly-raced chaser Hill Of Tara is also noted.
SELECTION: BASFORD
4
5
Danger: Uallrightharry
SOLE SOLUTION kept on gamely to score over 2m4f at Sandown at the start of the month and this step up in trip could unlock further improvement. The seven-yearold looks capable of defying a 5lb rise to complete the hat-trick, with his main threat possibly being Hititi after his second in this grade at Exeter earlier in the month. Previous course winner Hermino AA is another to take seriously.
SELECTION: SOLE SOLUTION
Danger: Hititi
ONE MAN PARTY outran his odds to fill the runner-up spot at Fakenham on his latest outing and he is only 2lb higher following that display. David Bridgwater’s charge looks to have found an ideal opportunity to get his head in front for the first time. Jongleur D’etoiles was soundly beaten in third when attempting to complete a hat-trick at Southwell last time, but he should remain competitive. Minella Kaiser is the pick of the remainder.
SELECTION: ONE MAN PARTY
6
Danger: Jongleur D’etoiles
DEMOISELLE KAP is unbeaten in two starts since joining the Jennie Candish yard and struck with ease at Newcastle on her latest outing. The seven-year-old is 11lb higher now but has scope for further progress and she can take this step up in grade in her stride. The main threat could come from Koenigsstern, who may be helped by first-time cheekpieces after his well-held fourth at Huntingdon last month. Birdman Bob is 2lb lower than when he finished fifth here last time and needs to show more.
SELECTION: DEMOISELLE KAP
Danger: Koenigsstern
LYLE VIEW accounted for her nearest rival by over four lengths at Southwell last time and was put up 9lb for that triumph. If Neil Mulholland’s mare can run to a similar level today, then she will prove very difficult to beat. Arctic Angel made the frame at Chepstow last month and is likely to be thereabouts off an unchanged rating, while A Tickatickatiming is another to keep an eye on.

It could be a case of third time lucky over hurdles for NAP HAND, who has acquitted himself well on his two starts in this sphere. That said, Under The Sun’s form on the Flat was superior and he will be a serious threat if able to step up on what he showed on his recent hurdling bow here. Syllabus also boasts some decent Flat form and he’s one to note in the betting.

Plumpton Racecourse’s facilities provide an accessible environment for all our racegoers, including those with young children. We are happy to make alternative arrangements if necessary; if you have any queries or require assistance please phone 01273 890383, visit the Racecourse Office or ask any member of staff and we will be happy to assist you in any way we can.
At every race meeting at Plumpton there are three specially qualified Equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action.
During a race two vets follow the action from the centre of the course and can attend a casualty in the same response time as the Paramedic team responsible for human casualties.
The third vet is based at the Stable Yard where a close check is kept on all horses, especially those returning after a race.

PLAY SMARTER
With an apparent lack of pace in the race, the unexposed SOLE SOLUTION may be able to dominate this from the front, at a course that often suits handy types. He showed a likeable attitude when making-all at Sandown earlier this month and looks the type to improve now tackling staying distances. Patriotik has notable form in the book this season and he should benefit from this greater stamina test. Hititi looks solid, while Kaminsas is worth a go at this trip.
