WELCOME
WELCOME TO
Dear Friends Of Punchestown,
On behalf of the Kildare Hunt Club and the entire team here at Punchestown, I’m absolutely delighted to welcome you here for today’s racing action, which is of course our first fixture of 2025.
We have an action-packed days racing to look forward to with our feature race, the Grade 2 Sky Bet Moscow Flyer Novice Hurdle A race which is renowned for producing future superstars in advance of the big spring festivals and certainly one to keep a close eye on. Horses of the calibre of Impaire Et Passe, Min, Douvan and Vatour have won previous renewals of the race with Mystical Power, the most recent addition to that illustrious role of honour in 2024.
I would particularly like to thank all of our sponsors here today who include Sky Bet, Albert Bartlett and Adare Manor The support of our sponsors and indeed our jockeys, owners, trainers, clients, staff, officials and loyal supporters is greatly appreciated and I thank you for that. Afterall, it is this which enables us to stage such high-quality racing at Punchestown.
Today marks the second Irish qualifier of the Albert Bartlett Triple Crown Series. This initiative was trialled last season as the Full Circle Series and offers horses in the 0 – 120 region an opportunity to compete on the biggest stage for great prize money. Thank you to Ronnie Bartlett and the Albert Bartlett team who recognised its potential and have come onboard to enhance and bring the series to the next level. We now have twelve qualifiers across England, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The €100,000 final will take place on day one of the 2025 Punchestown Festival
We are in full swing for the 2025 Punchestown Festival and look forward to welcoming you all here for what promises to be a great five days at the Home Of Irish Jumps. Tickets can be bought on punchestown.com or you can also contact any member of the Punchestown Team to secure your tickets and hospitality packages for this year’s festival which takes place from Tuesday 29th April – Saturday 3rd May.
On behalf of all the team at Punchestown, I would like to wish you all a very enjoyable day and I look forward to welcoming you back racing at Punchestown tomorrow.
Kindest Regards,
Conor O’Neill CEO, Punchestown

RACE SUMMARY
BRUCEJACK has plenty of experience over fences, which may give him a vital edge The selection has filled the runner-up spot twice in similar events over slightly shorter trips and has also run well in competitive staying handicaps, including when fifth last time in the Porterstown at Fairyhouse On Lovers Walk won two point-to-points and went close last time in a 2m4f Down Royal chase, while Shantou Princess was also successful between the flags and switches to fences after landing a 3m handicap hurdle here last month. Western Model won a handicap hurdle here last spring and riding arrangements suggest he’s preferred to Coumeenoole, while point winner Rokathir is another to consider WIN: BRUCEJACK EACH-WAY: ON

RACE SUMMARY
LECKY WATSON was a useful sort over hurdles, including when placed in a Grade 1 at Naas, and made an exciting start over fences at the same venue, making all to beat Slade Steel over 2m4f He should benefit from that seasonal debut and could take high rank in the novice chasing division. Point winner Down Memory Lane also jumped well when successfully switching to fences at Navan, but didn’t get into the same rhythm when tackling Grade 1 company at Sandown last month. Farren Glory holds Ifiwerearichman on running behind Inthepocket at Wexford and now steps up in trip after finishing second to stablemate Touch Me Not in the Grade 2 Craddockstown at this venue.

RACE SUMMARY
PAPA BARNS was placed a few times over hurdles and made a bright start to his chasing career when making most of the running and beating all bar Hillsdale in an 18-runner 2m Naas handicap, with Mahlers Cove well behind in sixth. He can build on that. The veteran School Lane has won three times in point-to-points, plus a further three chase victories under Rules, and gave some encouragement staying on into third when dropped to a lowly mark in a 2m5f Down Royal handicap last month. Toon Town won over hurdles for Brendan Walsh at Wexford last year and it will be interesting to see if the market speaks in his favour on debut over fences for a new yard

RACE SUMMARY
Stepping up in trip should suit NINE GRACES. The Kapgarde mare ran well when chasing home easy winner La Malmason at Fairyhouse early last month and is just a couple of pounds higher now. Both her wins over timber came at 2m6f and she is still relatively unexposed over fences after four runs. Daily Present ran well in the competitive Porterstown Handicap Chase at Fairyhouse, when third to History Of Fashion. Jack Hendrick takes a useful 7lb off the back of the top-weight now. Salmanino ran well at a massive price in Navan last time and is a previous C&D winner He is another for the shortlist.

FACTS & STATS
RACE DESCRIPTION
The Sky Bet Moscow Flyer is a Grade 2, that is only bettered by a Grade 1, so expect to see some top notch horses lining up, and possibly some future Cheltenham and Punchestown Festival contenders. Initially, the weights in this two mile and 157 yard hurdle race for five-year-olds and upwards are allocated on the basis of age and sex, before penalties are awarded to horses which have won above a certain level prior to taking part here.
LAST YEAR’S WINNER

€37,500
KEY TRENDS
12 of the last 13 winners were aged 5 or 6
13/13 winners had at least 1 run that season, 13/13 winners had at least 1 win that season
9 of the last 13 winners were favourites/ joint favourites, 12/13 winners were in the top 3 in the betting
Mystical Power continued the fine record of Closutton in the contest when landing this 12 months ago He arrived having an unusual preparation, with him last seen winning at the Galway Festival in July of 2024 At times he wasn’t the most fluent over his hurdles but clearly had the most ability of these, duly showing it up the run in to score emphatically by seven lengths after an accomplished ride by Mark Walsh.
THIS YEAR’S PREVIEW
Willie Mullins looks to once again have a strong hand as he goes in search of a fourth consecutive victory in the contest. Runaway Tipperary winner Salvator Mundi is set to be partnered by Paul Townend and is currently the market favourite. The form of that race doesn’t look standout but his 62 length victory was extremely impressive nonetheless. Kel Histoire looks the biggest danger after his Cork victory. His jumping improved as the race progressed and there is every chance he’s improved since that run.

RACE SUMMARY
All eyes will be on SALVATOR MUNDI here as the Supreme Novices’ favourite makes his much anticipated return. The No Risk At All gelding was thrown in at the deep end on his first outing for Willie Mullins last season, finishing sixth in the Triumph Hurdle He subsequently won his maiden hurdle at Tipperary by a massive 62 lengths and is a very exciting prospect for this term. Stablemate Kel Histoire looks the most likely danger The Masked Marvel gelding won nicely on his Irish debut at Cork last month. Sky Lord also won a Cork maiden hurdle last month and is another to note WIN: SALVATOR MUNDI EACH-WAY: KEL HISTOIRE

RACE SUMMARY
Things haven’t gone to plan for A DREAM TO SHARE since claiming the Grade 1 bumpers at Cheltenham and the Festival meeting here in 2023, but he can get back on track now. The Muhaarar gelding ran with promise when fifth on his hurdling debut behind Ballygunner Castle at Fairyhouse in late November and is entitled to improve a nice bit from that experience. He may be able to turn around form with the third-placed horse Don’tstopthemusic The Willie Mullins-trained Kappa Jy Pyke looks an obvious danger He was beaten at a short price on his Irish debut, but ran into a nice sort in Sky Lord in Cork.

BETTING EXPLAINED
The first thing to consider is which type of bet you wish to place. The most common is a win bet, where if your selection wins, you win. It is a no nonsense, on the nose bet and if you are lucky enough to pick a big-priced winner, you will receive a nice return. For example, place €5 to win on a 10-1 shot and you will receive €55 back, €50 winnings plus your €5 stake.
Another common bet is each-way This is effectively two bets in one One bet is on your selection to win and the other is on it to place. Depending on the type of race and how many runners are in the race will determine how many places are offered The industry standard bookmaker place terms are as follows:
All races of less than 5 runners – win only
All races of 5-7 runners –1/4 odds a place, 1,2
All other races of more than 8 runners –1/5, 1,2,3
of 12-15 runners –1/4 , 1,2,3

RACE SUMMARY
Josh Williamson is good value for his 7lb and he can strike here on BRIGHT LEGEND The Denis Hogan-trained gelding ran well at Limerick on his last outing when chasing home Balko D’ange and is only a couple of pounds higher now. He ran well over a mile and a half on his last outing on the Flat, and stepping up in trip over jumps could bring further improvement. Beggars Rock got a 10lb hike for his wide-margin success at Limerick, but still looks an obvious danger The Diddler has been placed in three maiden hurdles and looks on a fair mark for her handicap debut.
