WELCOME TO SALISBURY RACECOURSE A warm welcome to Salisbury particularly if you are attending for the first time this year. Today is our third race meeting with racegoers back and the sixth race meeting of our season so far. It looks set to be another very pleasant day with warm sunshine forecasted. All the racecourse team have been saying how good it is to see customers back around the enclosures. We continue to be limited on numbers permitted to attend, and there are certain rules that we all have to follow. Thank you for your co-operation complying with those regulations – maintaining social distancing, face masks where required, hand hygiene, and sitting for your food and drink consumption. Our featured Cathedral Stakes race today is kindly sponsored by the European Breeders’ Fund. This race took place at Goodwood last year, as Salisbury didn’t race until July 2020, but two years ago resulted in a dead-heat finish. Many thanks also to Byerley Stud, Mildren Construction, and Graham Fitch who are all contributing to the prize money of their sponsored races. Mildren Construction completed the new Paddock Bar in March 2020, so it is good to see it finally in use! Mildren support WaterAid, a charity with teams in some of the poorest countries across the world, working to transform millions of lives every year, by improving access to clean water. For more information visit wateraid.org Enjoy your day and we look forward to seeing you again soon. Our next racing here at Salisbury is Bibury Cup Day, sponsored by Whitsbury Manor Stud, on Wednesday 23rd June. Best wishes, Jeremy Martin Executive Director & Clerk of the Course

STAR RATING EXPLAINED Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: ‘‘‘‘‘ Selected to win the race. ‘‘‘‘• Good chance of being placed. ‘‘‘•• By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims ‘‘••• Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. ‘•••• Can be given little or no chance. OFFICIAL BHA RATING The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

THE BYERLEY STUD RACING EXCELLENCE APPRENTICE SERIES AT SALISBURY The five race Racing Excellence Apprentice Series at Salisbury is generously sponsored by Byerley Stud. It is specifically designed to assist the education and training of new and inexperienced jockeys. The first race took place on Thursday 13th May and was won by Elinor Jones on the Stuart Kittow trained Newton Jack. A points system operates throughout the Series and is allocated as follows: 1st – 5 points; 2nd – 3 points; 3rd – 2 points; 4th – 1 point. Additional points are awarded by the jockeys’ coach for presentation, professionalism, course familiarisation walk and riding ability. At the end of the Series the top three riders in the Series will receive prizes as follows, kindly provided by Byerley Stud. 1ST - £1500 2ND - £1000 3RD - £500 The remaining races will take place on 11th July, 11th August and 2nd September. The current scores are as follows: Elinor Jones...........................................................................11 Stephen Mooney................................................................7 Mollie Phillips........................................................................7 Bradley Harris........................................................................6 Oisin McSweeney...............................................................6 Jonny Peate............................................................................6 Liam Browne .........................................................................5 Rose Dawes ............................................................................5 Alex Jary....................................................................................5 Owen Lewis ............................................................................5 Hannah Fraser......................................................................5 Frederick Larson .................................................................5 Racing Excellence runs alongside the Jockey Coaching Programme (JCP) and is the industry accreditation for all apprentice and conditional races which run under hands and heels or training race conditions. Initially set up by The British Racing School as ‘Support for Young Jockeys’ in 2006, the BHA rebranded the scheme in 2010 as ‘Racing Excellence’. In February 2014 The British Racing School took over the management of Racing Excellence and The JCP. The latter gives all Apprentices and Conditionals the opportunity to have a coach. All coaches who are all ex Jockeys can be on hand to help with fitness, riding technique, nutrition and race reviews. A coach will attend every Racing Excellence race to conduct the pre-race course walk and then will also debrief afterwards.

DECLARED RUNNERS 7 Hood worn first time by No. 6, 7. Blinkers worn first time by No. 2. Tongue Strap worn first time by No. 1. Tongue Strap worn by No. 7. Running for the first time since Wind Surgery No. 1. Stewards Note: STORMY CHAOS: Following its run on 20/5/2021 it was reported that the horse never travelled and p.u abruptly. ARTEMIS SKY: Following its run on 22/5/2021 it was reported that the horse was very slow away and ran green. Betting Forecast: 8-11 Deep Snow (GB), 4-1 Fetna (FR), 11-2 For Love of Louise (GB), 18-1 Loving Dash (GB), 20-1 Artemis Sky (GB), 150-1 Citana (IRE), 300-1 Stormy Chaos (IRE) Race Summary: DEEP SNOW hasn’t stood much racing with just two runs in nearly two years but she’s shown a decent level of form on both starts. For her connections to persevere with her given she’s now had wind surgery, she must be well thought of and this race will take very little winning. For Love of Louise is an interesting newcomer so can’t be ruled out. Fetna could improve to get involved too. DECLARED RUNNERS 7 Stewards Note: SPIRIT MIXER: Following its run on 29/5/2021 it was reported that the horse hung left under pressure. TAJDID: Following its run on 12/5/2021 it was reported that the horse ran too freely. Betting Forecast: 9-2 Rhebus Road (IRE), Alerta Roja (GB), 5-1 George Bancroft (GB), 11-2 Marsden Cross (IRE), Spirit Mixer (GB), 13-2 Tajdid (FR), 14-1 Where You At (GB) Race Summary: A wide-open finale with a couple of potential blots on the handicap. GEORGE BANCROFT is bred for middle distances but has got his handicap mark from running over shorter. He is likely to really appreciate the significant step up in trip and should go well. Alerta Roja has a similar profile as befits one from this yard and he’ll also be a danger. Marsden Cross looks the best alternative.
