One of the stand-out two mile chases of the season, the Betfair Tingle Creek attracts the best of the best. First run in 1969 as the Benson & Hedges Gold Cup, the race has been graced by some of the true greats in its deep history. Desert Orchid is a name that jumps out on any roll of honour and won the race back in 1988 under Simon Sherwood. 11 years later the races’ most successful horse, Flagship Uberalles won the first of this three consecutive victories, spanning 1999-2001. Paul Nicholls won six renewals on the bounce from 2005-2010 with Kauto Star, Master Minded and Twist Magic sharing two wins a piece. Paul Nicholls himself is the race’s leading trainer with a remarkable 12 wins in total. Fast forwarding to more recent times and the list of illustrious names doesn’t stop, with Sprinter Sacre (2012), Sire De Grugy (2013 & 2015) and Altior (2018) all etching their names into history.
