Choose your bet. ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are popular types of bet.

‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.

‘Each-way’ is for your horse to come first or to be placed. It’s two bets, so ‘£2 each-way’ = £4 total bet.

Decide the amount – or stake – you are comfortable to bet.

Place your bet. There are different places to bet on course; The Tote, racecourse bookmakers, betting shop or online. Each option offers a different experience.

Collect. Once ‘Weighed-in’ has been announced, present your betting slip and collect any winnings.

1. FORM EXPERTVIEW

Virgin Bet

Scilly Isles Saturday

12:50 – This looks like a match between Diamonds For Luck and Old Cowboy. Diamonds for luck was an easy winner last time out at Wetherby and although that wasn’t the strongest of races he was impressive and is still open to improvement. He carries a penalty for that success and preference is for Old Cowboy. He caught the eye in what looked like a decent Newbury Novice Hurdle and with improvement to come, he’s fancied to go close.

13:25 – De Kingpin was a good second last time out at Newbury and ran well on his only start at the track in November when third and not beaten in a race won by Anno Power, an opening mark of 117 looks workable and he is respected but preference is for the Gary & Josh Moore trained Kalifd’Airy He ran well at Fontwell on his penultimate start finishing second to Motazzen who was an easy winner on next start. Kalif d’Airy then went to Fakenham, he was dropped to 2 miles on good ground and was just beaten in a close finish when sent off a short priced fav Back up in trip and on softer ground he looks a big player here.

14:00 - A few of these come in here with questions to answer and although this is a rise in class, Classic Maestro is still open to improvement, he ran well last time at Haydock over 2m4f in a race that is working out well. It’s possible that trip stretches his stamina and the drop back in trip here will really suit. He should get a positive ride, and the ground will be no problem to him. He looks well treated off 130 and should go well.

14:35 – All four of these were last time out winners and this looks a great renewal. Kalif Du Berlais was an impressive winner at Cheltenham and is respected up in trip, but Jango Baie was very impressive on his chase debut where he comfortably beat next time out winner Springwell Bay. He was a Grade 1 winner over hurdles and with improvement to come, he could take this and be a force in all the top novice chase’s this season.

15:07 – A competitive handicap here and plenty with chances. HenriThe Second relished the step up in trip when scoring by 18 lengths at the track in December The second from that race won next time out and the third, Super Survivor won his next two starts. The form looks strong, he is still unexposed at the trip and the ground suits. He should go close.

15:42 – Gelino Bello ran well last time out when returning from a 698-day break and looks interesting now back over fences but the solid one here is In d’Or for Venetia Williams and David Maxwell. He won at Taunton on chase debut beating Herakles Westwood who won on his next two starts. He then went to Ascot and made it 2-2 over fences with another good performance and he still could be well handicapped of 133. He won over hurdles on soft ground, and all looks set for a big run.

16:12 – Hurricane Pat and Silver Hill both won on debut and carry penalties here, APai De Nom for Harry & Dan Skelton ran well finishing second on soft ground at Chepstow last October, he bumped into Sober Glory on that occasion who won easily on next start when sent off 4/9 That looks like strong form and A Pai De Nom can go one better here.

RACEHORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE

The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation. The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards. In addition Sandown Park Racecourse employs three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital
