BETTING EXPLAINED

Select your horse. Note their name and saddlecloth number

Choose your bet. ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are popular types of bet.

‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.

‘Each-way’ is for your horse to come first or to be placed. It’s two bets, so ‘£2 each-way’ = £4 total bet.

Decide the amount – or stake – you are comfortable to bet.

Place your bet. There are different places to bet on course; The Tote, racecourse bookmakers, betting shop or online. Each option offers a different experience.

Collect. Once ‘Weighed-in’ has been announced, present your betting slip and collect any winnings.

1. FORM EXPERTVIEW

Pioneering equine vision research showed the clarity of jumps could be improved by changing markers from orange to white. So that’s what we did. horsepwr.co.uk

SKIN FULL left his hurdling exploits behind when finishing a respectable fourth on chase debut at Taunton 3 weeks ago and open to improvement from such a low base, he could be worth siding with to come out on top. Lady Pretender has yet to threaten in 3 starts for Venetia Williams since arriving from France but can’t be written off yet. Chase debutant Garitsa Bay and Shuil Ceoil complete the shortlist.

DON’T MIND IF I DO, an excellent second in his sole outing in bumpers, again shaped with bags of promise behind a useful prospect on his Warwick hurdling debut last month and, with the performancesupportedbyahealthytimefigure,he’llsurelytakeplentyofbeatingwithimprovement on the cards. It’s A Breeze ran below expectations in a C&D bumper on his debut 11 months ago but is clearly thought capable of much better, with Another Fine Mess taken to fill the places.

YGGDRASIL has a lengthy absence to overcome but has been given a chance by the handicapper and his trainer is back among the winners in recent days, so he could be worth chancing. King Arise clearly hasn’t been the easiest to train but he came very close to making a winning chase bow at Ayr last month after a long absence so rates the main threat ahead of Gyenyame, who remains with potential in this sphere.

Phoenix Risen from a handy mark and the hat-trick seeking American Land are others to consider Monsant is also worth a look.

IMPERIAL JADE was unlucky not to finish closer over C&D on her most recent outing, having been shuffled back leaving the back straight, and there’s surely a handicap in her from her current mark. Sweet Caryline is in a deeper handicap than the one she won at Fontwell, but her pedigree provides plenty ofhope for better still, with Linda Moon likely to go well again. TIMEFORM PREDICTION:

IMPORTANT NOTICES

RACEHORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE

The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards. In addition Wincanton Racecourse employs three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital.
