On the occasion of the Salone Satellite 2022, the Insitute of Higher Education G. Meroni located in Lissone (MB), always keeping up with the times, showcased some of the products designed by students under their teachers’ guidance. The Vocational Educational Training of the Technician of the furniture and furnishing industry (TIMA) which has been active under various names since the foundation of the Meroni dating back in 1878, fits into a context of consolidated tradition of the wood- furniture sector, linked to the mechanical wood processing and the great furniture Exhibitions. Today the Institute is benchmark for the innovation also in the IT and engineering sector, thanks to state-of-theart labs that are a proper modern workshop where it is possible to carrry out small and large projects concerning the production of “made in Italy”. The Institute, which has been heading since September 2020 by Prof.ssa Valentina Calì, has completely acknowledged the evolution and technological innovation of the last decade by stating a teaching useful to create an effective connection between the educational and training objectives of the education system and the needs of the world of work, occupations and research, aiming at changing the "school curriculum" into a "real curriculum". Almost all the graduates get a job immediately or continue with their university studies in the architecture and design field, achieving excellent outcomes. The furnishings exhibited at the Salone Satellite 2022, named "Echino", designed by the student Fabio Santambrogio under Prof. Paolo Sironi’s guidance and produced by Galbiati Natale & Sons Firm, perfectly reflect a blend of the traditional craftsmanship and the experimentation of new creative expressions. “Echino”, which comes from the following concept: the Echinocactus, commonly known as "mother-in-law’s pillow", becomes the inspiration for the design of a series of stools and coffee tables in cedar wood. The products exhibited were appreciated by the audience who visited the Salone Satellite and by the furniture industry professionals. It goes without saying that this is a more reason of pride and a further motivation for the development and the growth of our Institute.
