Knox County Schools

Knox County Schools is committed to providing excellent and accessible learning opportunities to nearly 59,000 students across our district, empowering them to realize their full potential and thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

KCS is the third-largest school district in the state of Tennessee, with a total of 88 schools that are located in urban, rural and suburban communities. In 2019, the district adopted a five-year strategic plan focused on three main goals: Increasing Student Achievement, Eliminating Disparities and Creating A Positive Culture.

To achieve those goals, the district relies on outstanding teachers, principals and support staff and strives to build a workplace culture that values employee contributions, equips employees to meet their professional goals and supports employees in the work of teaching and learning.

Our students pursue excellence in a wide variety of activities. The district’s academic offerings include early postsecondary opportunities such as Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, Dual Enrollment and Student Industry Certification programs. Our schools also offer leadership opportunities through clubs and community service; broad participation in the visual and performing arts; and high-level competition through sports and athletic teams. In the Fall of 2020, KCS created a new virtual learning program that offers online instruction using Chromebooks, which are provided to every K-12 student in the district. At the same time, the district continued offering in-person, on-campus instruction during the Fall of 2020, with significant new measures in place to protect the health and safety of students and employees.

KCS is committed to the work of teaching and learning, and we’re grateful for the support of the Knox County community as we pursue that mission!
