Emmanuel College has expanded the Online Academic Resources through the FirstClass e-mail system to allow students the ability to view the statement of account and to make online credit card payments. Online Academic Resources may be accessed at www1.emmanuel.edu using your FirstClass login. For questions regarding your account login, please contact the Emmanuel College Helpdesk at 617-735-9966.

When planning your method of payment, it is strongly recommended that you borrow and/or enroll in the payment plan for the entire academic year instead of applying each semester. If you are borrowing or enrolling in the plan each semester, please be certain to indicate a semester-based loan or payment plan period on the application.

Billing Procedures and Payment Dates You will receive a Statement of Account in early July for the fall semester and in mid November for the spring semester. The fall semester balance is due on August 6, 2008; the spring semester balance is due on December 12, 2008. The Statement of Account is mailed in the student’s name to your preferred mailing address. If your address changes, please notify the Registrar’s Office to ensure that you receive your Statement of Account and other College mailings.
When mailing or wiring a payment, please be sure to include the student’s name and Emmanuel College ID number or Social Security number.

Financial Aid Although you may have already received a financial aid award letter, please note the following regarding financial aid.
Estimated Financial Aid Award Letters Estimated offers of financial aid are not usable toward the bill. To receive a verified offer of financial aid, you may be required to complete an Emmanuel College Application for Financial Aid and submit signed copies of you and your parents’ 2007 Federal Income Tax Returns.
Federal Work Study Federal Work Study is an offer of employment and is not subtracted from your bill. You will be paid for hours worked. Please refer to the Frequently Asked Questions on page 10 for more information regarding working on campus.
Financial Aid Adjustments Financial aid may be reduced or canceled if you reduce your courseload, change your housing status, or fail to comply with requests for information from the College, state grant authority, or other entity responsible for the processing of financial assistance. If your financial aid is reduced or canceled, you are responsible for making arrangements to pay the resulting balance.
Outside Scholarships If a student receives an outside scholarship while attending Emmanuel College, an adjustment in the student’s financial aid package may be necessary based on federal and institutional financial aid policies. Students are required to report to the Office of Student Financial Services the receipt of any outside scholarships. Outside scholarships may not be used as pending credit on your account until verification has been received by the organization granting the scholarship. If you are mailing this notification with your billing statement, you may subtract the amount of the scholarship from the balance due. You are responsible for agency payment arrangements to ensure that this money is credited to your student account.
Credit Balances If you have borrowed an amount in excess of your charges, a credit will appear on your account. Please see page 7 for information on when and how to receive funds in excess of your charges.
Student Loan Requirements If you are borrowing a student loan that was included as part of your financial aid award, please read and comply with the following requirements. If the student loan promissory notes and entrance counseling are not completed, the loan will be canceled and you will be responsible for the resulting balance to your student account. Federal Stafford Loan All new borrowers (first-year or transfer students) must complete both Stafford Loan entrance counseling and a Stafford Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN). Both of these requirements may be completed online. Visit the Emmanuel College website at www.emmanuel.edu. From the left hand column, select “Tuition & Aid.” On the Tuition & Aid page, select “Scholarships & Financial Aid,” then select “Federal Loan Documentation” from the drop-down list of choices. Federal Perkins Loan All new borrowers must complete Perkins Loan entrance counseling and a Perkins Loan Master Promissory Note. Both of these requirements may be completed online. Visit the Emmanuel College website at www.emmanuel.edu. From the left hand column, select “Tuition & Aid.” On the Tuition & Aid page, select “Scholarships & Financial Aid,” then select “Federal Loan Documentation” from the drop-down list of choices. Massachusetts No-Interest Loan New borrowers must complete entrance counseling and a promissory note and repeat borrowers must complete a promissory note. Students who have been awarded a MA No-Interest Loan will be contacted by the Office of Student Financial Services to complete this documentation.

Loan Options Federal Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS) Federal Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS) is a credit-based loan for the parent of an undergraduate student. Federal PLUS Loans are disbursed directly to Emmanuel College in two installments. Parents may borrow up to the cost of education minus financial aid. The standard interest rate is an 8.5% fixed rate; however, many lenders offer interest rate reductions. We encourage you to review the lenders listed below and conduct your own research prior to selecting a Federal PLUS Loan lender.

Choosing The Loan That’s Right for You Emmanuel College understands that there may be many loans that meet your specific needs. On the following pages we have provided information regarding the factors you may want to consider when evaluating borrowing and several loan options for both parents and students.
Interest Rate Interest is money paid to the lender for the use of borrowed funds. Comparing interest rates is a helpful indicator of the relative cost when comparing loans.
Loan Fees In addition to interest, many loans have fees that are either added to the loan amount or deducted from the loan proceeds. These may be referred to as Origination Fees or Guarantee Fees.
Annual Percentage Rate (APR) The APR reflects the total cost of borrowing money over the life of the loan, considering not only the interest rate, but also the effect of other fees on the total cost of repaying the amount financed.
Fixed vs. Variable Rate Families can choose between a fixed rate loan or a variable rate loan. Fixed rate loans have the benefits of a constant interest rate and a payment amount that never changes. Most education loans feature variable interest rates also. Interest charged on variable rate loans is subject to change, anywhere from monthly to annually. The interest rate is normally tied to an index such as Prime Rate, LIBOR, or another rate that may fluctuate over time. In evaluating a variable rate loan, you should understand how frequently your payment may change, and whether there is any cap on how high the interest rate may go.
Required Monthly Payment For many families, the amount of the monthly payment is an important factor in choosing a loan. To estimate the monthly payment required to repay each loan, you may use the loan calculator tool on the www.finaid.org web site and click on “Calculators.” Most lenders also have loan calculator tools on their individual web sites.
Credit Considerations Like other forms of borrowing, most education loans are subject to credit approval. Many lenders use automated credit “scoring” models to determine your creditworthiness. Your credit score is determined by many factors, most notably your record of past credit use. Although credit qualifications and processes vary, two primary considerations are most important: Credit History A track record of timely repayments on other debts indicates that an applicant is likely to continue to manage future credit obligations well. Sufficient Income to Meet Payments Lenders will typically review an applicant’s current income and compare it to his/her monthly debts. After deducting fixed monthly obligations (including rent or mortgage, car loans, education loans, and payments on other consumer loans and credit cards) from after-tax income, there must be sufficient resources to pay everyday living expenses such as food, clothing, utilities, transportation, insurance, etc.

Student Account Policies Institutional Refund/Withdrawal Policy
Tuition Insurance
Students who take a leave of absence or who withdraw from the College are subject to the following refund policy. Prior to the start of classes, 100% of tuition, fees, room and board, excluding non-refundable deposits, are refunded. After the start of classes, fees are not refundable and tuition, room and board are refunded based on the following policy:
Emmanuel College offers a tuition insurance program, the Tuition Refund Plan (TRP), to help protect your investment if the student leaves school prior to the end of the semester due to accident or illness.

Requesting a Refund To obtain a refund upon withdrawal from the College, please complete a Refund Request Form with the Office of Student Financial Services. Withdrawal from a Course Course/schedule changes must be made during the add/drop period of the semester to receive a refund. You are liable for the cost of courses from which you withdraw after the add/ drop period. After the add/drop period, enrollment and housing status of all students is confirmed prior to the disbursement of financial assistance. Financial aid may be reduced if the student is enrolled in fewer courses than originally reported or has changed their residency status without notifying the Office of Student Financial Services. Please Note: To officially withdraw from the college, you must contact your academic advisor. Non-attendance does not constitute an official withdrawal. Financial Aid When withdrawing from the College prior to the tenth week of the semester, federal and state financial aid eligibility is determined using the Return of Title IV funds calculation. Using this regulation, eligibility is calculated on a daily basis. For example, if a student is receiving $2,000 in federal financial aid for the fall semester and withdraws on the 15th day of a semester that is 100 days in length, the student is eligible to retain $300 of their federal financial aid (15/200 = .15 x $2,000 = $300). There is no correlation between the Tuition Refund Policy and the Return of Title IV regulation.
TRP is an elective insurance program through A.W.G. Dewar, Inc. and is not administered by Emmanuel College. The premium is $442.00 for a resident student and $312.00 for a student living off campus. TRP is a private insurance program that supplements Emmanuel’s refund policy as published in the College Catalog. Subscribers are assured a refund throughout the term, even if Emmanuel’s refund policy may have expired at the time of withdrawal. A full 100% refund only applies to medical/ physical withdrawals. Withdrawals for medical/psychological reasons are insured at 60% of the costs. Costs covered by the TRP program include tuition, room, board, and mandatory fees. The orientation and health insurance charges are not included. The chart below demonstrates how TRP works to complement the College’s refund policy: Withdrawl Date During Semester

Participation in the Tuition Refund Plan is optional, and the College’s refund schedule is applicable whether or not you enroll in the TRP. If you have questions regarding the plan or would like to receive an application, please contact A.W.G. Dewar at 617-774-1555. The application deadline for the 2008-2009 academic year is September 3, 2008. Applications cannot be accepted after the first day of classes.

Delinquent Accounts The payment of tuition and fees is the responsibility of the student. A late fee of $100 may be charged to your account if you have not satisfied your financial responsibilities with the Office of Student Financial Services. If payment is not received in a timely manner, your account will be referred to a collection agency and you will be responsible for the costs incurred with the collection effort. Once an account is referred to an outside agency, all inquiries and payments are made to the collection agency. If your account is delinquent, you will be unable to participate in course registration or room selection. In addition, the College will withhold your diploma and academic transcript if you have an outstanding balance.
Important: If payment is not received in a timely manner, your account will be referred to a collection agency and you will be responsible for the costs incurred with the collection effort.
Credit Balances A refund check will be issued to students who have a credit balance on their account with the College due to excess federal financial aid. If the credit was created by the disbursement of a Federal PLUS Loan, the check will be mailed to the PLUS Loan borrower. A credit balance typically does not occur until enrollment and housing are confirmed after the add/drop period of the semester and funds are disbursed to the student account. Due to this, financial aid is not available in cash or check when you arrive on campus. Even if you have borrowed additional funds to pay for books or off campus housing, you must be prepared to purchase books and pay rent for September and October in the fall semester and January and February in the spring semester. Financial aid (including private loans) is not disbursed until after the add/drop period of the semester, therefore, credit balance refunds are not available until all funds are disbursed. For most forms of financial assistance, this is usually mid-October for the fall semester and lateFebruary for the spring semester.
Requesting a Refund To obtain a credit balance, please complete a Refund Request Form with the Office of Student Financial Services. This form may be found within the Student Financial Services folder on the College’s FirstClass e-mail system.
Student Health Insurance The Commonwealth of Massachusetts requires all students enrolled at least 3/4 time to have health insurance. You are automatically billed the health insurance premium in the amount of $1,059 for the 2008-2009 academic year. If you have other insurance coverage you may remove this charge from your account by completing a health insurance waiver online at www.universityhealthplans.com. The deadline to submit a waiver is August 6, 2008. Students who do not complete a waiver will automatically be enrolled in the health insurance through University Health Plans. For more information regarding the coverage provided through this plan, please contact University Health Plans at 1-800-437-6448 or online at www.universityhealthplans.com. International Students International students are required to enroll in the College’s plan through Consolidated Health Plans even if you have other health insurance coverage. Waivers are not accepted for international students.
Please Note: If you have other health insurance, you must complete a health insurance waiver at www.universityhealthplans.com no later than August 6, 2008 to remove the health insurance premium from your statement of account.

Meal Plans Bon Appetit, a California based management company, provides the food service for Emmanuel College. Students have the option of dining in one of two on-campus dining facilities. The Marian Hall Main Dining Room is an all you want to eat facility that is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. A wide variety of dining options are available in this facility, such as Grill, Pizza, Pasta, Deli, Comfort, and Exhibition Stations. The second dining option is the Atrium Café located in the foyer of Marian Hall. In this location, students are provided quick service with “grab and go” selections or grill options. Resident students begin each year with a 15 meals per week meal plan and $95 in “flex dollars” per semester that can be used in the Atrium Café. You have the option of changing this plan to a 19 meals per week meal plan with $25 in “flex dollars.” Additional flex dollars may be purchased at any time in the Bon Appetit Dining Office. If you have questions regarding dining services or would like to change to a 19 meals per week plan, please contact the Bon Appetit Dining Office at bonappetit@emmanuel.edu or by telephone at 617-735-9952. Fenway Card The Fenway Card is your official identification at Emmanuel College. You should carry the card at all times while on campus. The Fenway Card will be used to access campus buildings including the library and residence halls and provides access to your meal plan and flex dollars. Fenway Cash When you place money on your Fenway Card, you will be able to make cashless purchases at the bookstore, dining hall, vending machines, laundry machines, Colleges of the Fenway bookstores and dining halls, and select off-campus locations. More information regarding the Fenway Card, including a list of off-campus vendors, may be found online at www.fenwaycard.com. Commuter Dining Plans Bon Appetit offers two dining plans for students who will be commuting or living off campus. You may purchase five meals per week at $450 per semester, or you may purchase eight meals per week at $720 per semester. Payments for these plans are made directly to Bon Appetit. Commuter dining plans cover meals only in the cafeteria and Muddy River Café and do not include meals purchased at the Atrium Café.

On-Campus Parking Parking at the College is extremely limited. Only commuter students without access to public transportation will be considered. To receive consideration for on-campus parking, please submit a completed parking application to the Vice President of Student Affairs Office (Room 208 in the Administration Building). The application deadline for the fall semester for returning students was April 25, 2008; the application deadline for new students is June 27, 2008. Applications are available in the Office of the Vice President of Student Affairs and must be completed each semester. The student parking rates for the 2008-2009 academic year are as follows: Student Status

There is a fee of $100 for replacement permits. Please be clear and specific as to your reasons for requesting a parking permit. The applications are reviewed by a committee and the Vice President of Student Affairs Office will reply by mail to all applicants. Students who are approved for parking will be charged based on the rates listed in this guide. Parking permits for approved applicants are available in the Security Office once your student account is paid in full including parking fees.
MBTA Passes Emmanuel College students receive an 11% discount for semester MBTA passes. Students receive unlimited rides from October 1–January 31 with the fall semester pass and from February 1–May 31 with the spring semester pass. Fee information is included on the MBTA Enrollment Form, which is located within the Policies and Forms folder of the Student Financial Services Conference in FirstClass, the College’s e-mail system. To enroll, please complete and return the enrollment form to the Office of Student Financial Services no later than September 5, 2008, for the fall semester and January 8, 2009, for the spring semester.

When is the tuition bill due? The fall semester bill is mailed in early July and is due on August 6, 2008. The spring semester bill is mailed mid-November and is due on December 12, 2008. Is the balance due in full? Any balance remaining after financial aid or a private parent or student loan is due no later than August 6, 2008. Emmanuel College offers families the option of spreading the academic year balance over ten months with our payment plan through Tuition Management Systems (TMS). There is a $65 fee to enroll and the plan begins July 15, 2008 and ends April 15, 2009. For more information or for an enrollment form, please contact TMS at www.afford.com or 1-888-216-4258. In addition to the payment plan there are parent and private student loans available to assist families with educational expenses. Will my deposit be reflected on my bill? The $300 tuition deposit ($500 if you are living on campus) is applied to your first semester bill. If you are a continuing student who will be living on campus your $200 housing deposit will be applied to your first semester. When will I receive a financial aid award? An estimated offer of financial aid is provided to you once you have been accepted for admission and have completed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). To receive a verified offer of financial aid, you must also complete an Emmanuel College Application for Financial Aid and submit signed copies of you and your parents’ 2007 Federal Income Tax Returns. Currently enrolled students must submit the FAFSA each year by the College’s priority filing date of March 1, 2008. If you are selected for verification you must also submit complete, signed copies of you and your parent(s)’s 2007 Federal Income Tax Returns and other verification documentation as requested.
How do I apply for a Federal Stafford Loan? If you applied for financial aid and are borrowing a Federal Stafford Loan, you are required to complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN) and an entrance interview. Visit the Emmanuel College website at www.emmanuel.edu. From the left hand column, select “Tuition & Aid.” On the Tuition & Aid page, select “Scholarships & Financial Aid,” then select “Federal Loan Documentation” from the drop-down list of choices. I was awarded Federal Work-Study, how do I find a job? Federal Work-Study jobs are posted on the Emmanuel College e-mail system in September. Students apply for jobs directly with the supervisor listed on the job posting. Because jobs are limited, students who are interested in working on campus will want to contact supervisors as soon as possible once arriving on campus. To work on campus, you must complete employment paperwork including the I-9 Employment Authorization Form and the W-4 and M-4 tax withholding forms. If you are interested in working on campus, you should have your Social Security card and driver’s license (or other ID) with you when you arrive in September. Is health insurance required? Yes. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts requires all students enrolled at least 3/4 time to have health insurance. You are automatically billed the health insurance premium in the amount of $1,059 for the 2008-2009 academic year ($710 for the spring semester). If you have other insurance coverage you may remove this charge from your account by completing a health insurance waiver online at www.universityhealthplans.com. The deadline to submit a waiver is August 6, 2008. Students who do not complete a waiver will automatically be enrolled in the health insurance through University Health Plans. For more information regarding the coverage provided through this plan, please contact University Health Plans at 1-800-437-6448 or online at www.universityhealthplans.com. Can I park on campus? On-campus parking is extremely limited and is only available to commuter students who do not have access to public transportation and is offered on a first-come, first-serve basis. Parking applications are available in the Office of the Vice President of Student Affairs. The cost for a full-time student is $375 per semester.
