The Resident Assistant Application 2013 General Description of Position: At Emmanuel College, the Resident Assistant (RA) position is one of leadership and service. The Office of Residence Life and Housing selects and trains students to serve as paraprofessional staff in all residence areas.

Residence Life and Housing Mission Statement: The Office of Residence Life and Housing provides clean, well maintained and properly staffed facilities, which promote a living and learning environment that is safe, just, and developmental. The staff offers students opportunities to explore new experiences, enhance personal growth, explore and building new relationships, and play an active role in celebrating and promoting the ideals of a Catholic community.

Residence Life and Housing Goals:    

To develop a comprehensive program that addresses issues of wellness (alcohol, drugs, healthy relationships, fitness and nutrition) as they relate to our student body. Continue to create and develop leadership opportunities for our students. Provide a programming model that addresses the needs of our residential population. Communicate our policies and procedures to students and families so that they have a clear understanding of the community in which they live.

The RA Role and Responsibilities: The following list below outlines the core responsibilities the RA Selection Team will be looking for in a successful RA candidate. These core responsibilities should be shown throughout both the written and oral aspects of the RA Selection Process. A. Peer Counseling: building community, conflict mediation, crisis intervention, accessibility, approachability, relationship with residents. B. Administration: bulletin boards, promptness, accuracy, communication with supervisor, meeting attendance, duty responsibilities. C. Programming: meeting deadlines, efforts over a desirable range of topic areas, paperwork completed in efficient and timely manner, show's enthusiasm for self and other's programming. D. Community Standards: confronting negative behavior, documentation, modeling positive behavior, enforcing policies, demonstrating awareness, shows support for College policies. E. Team Member: participation/attendance at staff in-services, working cooperatively with staff, supporting building staff activities. F. Attitude: approaches position with enthusiasm, enthusiastic staff member, and shows genuine concern for hall residents.

Qualifications: The following provisions are placed on those hired for the Resident Assistant position through the Office of Residence Life and Housing at Emmanuel College.  

Must maintain and have a current 2.50 cumulative grade point average. A clear judicial record, i.e., must not be on disciplinary probation and must maintain this status throughout the employment period.
