Twice As Nice: GNAC Lacrosse Champions!! Over the weekend of April 26 & 27, both the Emmanuel College men’s and women’s lacrosse team’s won their respective Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tournament Championships to capture each program’s first-ever GNAC Title. The women’s team defeated Saint Joseph’s College (ME), 17-7 while the men’s team downed Becker, 9-3. Women’s Championship Recap:
The No. 1-seeded Emmanuel College Women’s Lacrosse Team won the program’s first-ever conference title, defeating No. 2-seeded Saint Joseph’s College (Me.), 17-7, in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship. With the win, coming on a rainsoaked Roberto Clemente Field on April 26, the 15-2 Saints have earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and will advance to play in the national tournament on May 7th. Finishing as the conference runner-up, Saint Joseph’s falls to 12-8 on the season. Sophomore middie Kristen Tuleja (Mansfield, Mass.) got
the Saints on the board first, scoring off an assist from classmate Sarah Higgins (Groveland, Mass.) just four minutes into the action. This would be the first of six goals on the night for Emmanuel’s all-time leading scorer and the Saints took a 1-0 lead. St. Joe’s quickly tied things up, when Krystal Walsh (Springvale, Maine) notched an unassisted tally eight minutes into the first half. Higgins and Tuleja would reverse the combination, as Higgins netted her 42nd goal of the season and EC led 2-1. Just one minute later, senior midfielder Cassie Diplock (Augusta, Maine) scored to tie things up again for the Monks at two-all. The Saints then went on a CONTINUED ON PAGE 4...

12:28.71 By the Numbers – On Sunday April 27, Emmanuel College senior Meaghan Mauer (South Hadley, Mass.) set the program record in the 3K steeplechase race, running the event in a time of 12:28.71. Mauer’s time was a half-second better than the previous record which had stood since 2008 and also was fast enough to qualify for the DIII New England Championship Meet.

Patrick Heffernan Men’s Lacrosse A sophomore defender on the Men’s Lacrosse team, Heffernan was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year while also being appointed to the GNAC First Team after helping lead the Saints to a perfect 10-0 record in GNAC play this season. The Emmanuel defensive unit was the best in the conference, holding opponents to just 5.06 goals per game, more than one goal better than the next best team. The Pembroke, Mass. native grabbed 39 groundballs and caused 31 turnovers on the year, helping the Saints capture their first-ever GNAC Championship.
Catherine Davis Softball Davis earned a spot on the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Softball First Team after an impressive sophomore season, batting .373 on the year to lead the Saints. The sophomore led EC in almost every single offensive category including a .438 on-base percentage and a .635 slugging percentage which ranked ninth overall in the GNAC. The shortstop amassed 22 extra base hits on the year which ranked third in the conference including 15 doubles which was the second most among GNAC players and first among GNAC infielders. Davis drove in 26 RBI on the year while also scoring 26 runs.
Chris Baglivi Men’s Lacrosse Baglivi enjoyed a breakout rookie season for the Emmanuel Men’s Lacrosse team, immediately stepping in and earning a starting spot in the #1 ranked defensive unit in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. Baglivi made his presence known around the league and was honored by the conference earning Rookie of the Year and First Team All-Conference honors. The defender caused 43 turnovers on the year to rank first on the team and third in the conference and picked up 62 groundballs to propel the Saints to the GNAC regular-season and tournament Championship.

five-goal tear, featuring two unassisted tallies from Tuleja, as Emmanuel surged out in front, 7-2, with 7:39 left to play in the first half. The Monks would score twice more before the break with Jackie Wilson (Tiverton, R.I.) finding the back of the net on a man-up opportunity and Diplock netting her second of three goals on the day, as the St. Joe’s cut their deficit to 7-4 at halftime.

The Monks scored quickly out of the break with Kat Gadbois (Scarborough, Maine) scoring just three minutes in, making it a two-goal game with St. Joe’s trailing 7-5. Emmanuel then regained the momentum, as the Saints poured in seven unanswered goals to rally back and take a 14-5 lead with 11 minutes remaining in the game. During the scoring spree, Tuleja scored twice, while Higgins, Sara Wootten (Berlin, Md.), Madison Altwies (Southington, Conn.), Emily Baker (Stratham, N.H.) and Savannah Lundwall (Fiskdale, Mass.) all notched unassisted markers.
Tuleja finished the day with an incredible 9 points, a career-best performance. The sophomore dished out three assists to go along with her game-high six goals. Higgins notched her 12th multi-goal game of the season with three goals and an assist. Merrigan and Baker finished with a pair of goals each for the Saints, while Lundwall led the defense with her five ground balls. Tuleja, Wootten, Lundwall and Higgins all earned spots on the All-Tournament Team for Emmanuel.
Meghan Williams (Greenland, N.H.) ended the drought for the Monks, scoring on another Saint Joseph’s man-up opp. Tuleja and Diplock would trade goals at opposite end to bring the spread to 15-7 with seven minutes left. The hosts then got two more scores before it was

Sophomore goalie Lauren White (Lynnfield, Mass.) earned her 15th win of the season for the Saints. White played another tremendous game in net for Emmanuel, making 11 total saves on the day. Following the game, White was named the GNAC Tournament’s Most Valuable Player. Diplock recorded a hattrick for the Monks, while
Men’sVolleyball Earns 5th GNAC Championship Appearance;Falls 3-1 to Rivier NASHUA, N.H. – Third-seeded Emmanuel College fell to No. 1-seeded Rivier University, 3-1, in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament Championship on April 12 in the Muldoon Gymnasium. The Saints, who were making their fifth appearance in the GNAC Finals in the past six years, now end their 2014 campaign at 18-12 overall. Rivier will advance to the NCAA Tournament with a 29-6 overall record. Emmanuel jumped out to a 27-25 set one win to take a 1-0 lead in the match. The Raiders recovered quickly and took the next three sets, 20-25, 18-25, 1425, to earn the 3-1 championship win. Emmanuel was led by Zach Whitermore (Whitehall, Pa.) and Ashanti Jackson (Sacramento, Calif.), who combined for 23 of the team’s 42 kills on the afternoon. Whitermore was the team leader with 13 kills and 8 digs. Jackson finished with 10 kills and five digs. Junior setter Sean Baxley (Saint James, N.Y.) registered 35 assists, while Ernie Gurule (Los Angeles, Calif.) led the match with his 17 digs.

GNAC Lacrosse Championship Recaps continued ...
Men’s Championship Recap
The Emmanuel College men’s lacrosse team erased an early deficit to defeat Becker College, 9-3, claiming the program’s first-ever Great Northeast Athletic Conference championship. In just their third season of varsity competition, the Saints improve to 15-3 on the year including a 15game winning streak to earn the automatic qualifier into the 2014 NCAA DIII Men’s Lacrosse Championship. The Hawks fall to 13-5 on the year. Both squads were quiet early on before Becker opened the game’s scoring with 5:38 to play in the first. Freshman attack Daniel Johnson (Plymouth, Mass.) finished a feed from junior attack David Deschenes (Gales Ferry, Conn.) to put the visitors on top, 1-0. Emmanuel answered with 1:06 remaining in the quarter as sophomore middie Chris Curtis (Ashland, Mass.) buried a man-up goal to even the score at 1-1. Johnson lifted the Hawks to a 2-1 lead with an early second quarter goal, hooking up with Deschenes again at the 11:18 marker in the second quarter.
Emmanuel came out of the gates in the third quarter riding the emotional high from the first half and dominated the action, outscoring the Hawks 4-0 in the quarter to take an 8-2 lead into the final quarter. MacLean-Daley opened the second half scoring with his second goal of the action before freshman attack Tony Cibelli (Westboro, Mass.) scored two goals in 30 seconds to give the Saints a 7-2 lead. Litzelman got into the scoring mix with his 11th goal of the year to account for the 8-2 score heading into the final quarter. Curtis made it 9-2 with a man-up tally, assisted by junior attack Ryan Sabuda (Indianapolis, Ind.) with 11:41 left in the game. The assist was Sabuda’s fourth of the game, the second highest single-game total in program history. Becker would close the game’s scoring as Deschenes registered his GNACleading 48th goal of the year, assisted by senior middie John DeAngelis (Swampscott, Mass.) with under three minutes remaining to make it 9-3. The Saints defensive unit would make the score hold up en route to the program’s first GNAC crown

Having gone undefeated in regular season conference play and boasting a 13-0 record against GNAC opponents this season, Emmanuel will ride an 11-game win streak into the national tournament in two weeks. The young Saints, without a senior on the roster, will make the program’s inaugural NCAA Tournament appearance. Opening round NCAA Tournament action is slated to begin on May 7th.
The Saints, who earned the No. 1 seed in the tournament after going 10-0 in conference play during the regular season, took the lead for good with just under a minute remaining before the halftime intermission on a transition goal by sophomore attack Kaile MacLean-Daley (Moretown, Vt.). With the help of a feed from freshman attack Donnie Litzelman (Exeter, N.H.), MacLeanDaley put Emmanuel on top, 3-2, with 59 seconds left in the half. The Saints would build even more momentum going into the break as sophomore middie Justin Kelly (Collegeville, Pa.) beat the halftime buzzer to make it 4-2 with one second remaining in the half.

Kilcoyne Pitches PERFECT GAME for Softball BOSTON, Mass. - On April 19, Emmanuel College freshman pitcher Jill Kilcoyne (Worcester, Mass.) pitched a perfect game, recording 15 consecutive outs in the Saints 8-0 win in five innings over Anna Maria. Kilcoyne was dominant, striking out 10 in the win which helped Emmanuel earn its first playoff berth in 10 years.

EC junior goalie Austin Lauzier (Bedford, N.H.) continued his stellar play in net, making 10 saves to earn his 15th win of the year. Lauzier was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, allowing just seven goals over the three games, posting a 27 saves and a .794 save percentage.

Track & Field Excels in Regular-Season Finale The Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Teams wrapped up the regular season on Sunday, April 27, competing in the Pride Classic on the campus of Regis College. The Saints turned in 10 personal records to go along with 21 top-five finishes. WESTON, Mass. – Senior captain Meaghan Mauer (South Hadley, Mass.) added her name to another spot in the Emmanuel College record books with her 5th place finish in the women’s 3K steeplechase. Mauer’s time of 12:28.71 was a half a second under the prior EC record, which had been in place since the 2008 season. Mauer’s new record time also qualified her for the Division III New England Championships in this event.
Sophomore Zoe Pierce-Dickens (Franklin, Vt.) raced to a 4th place finish in the 400m with her time of 62.46. On the men’s side, Adam Julien (New Orleans, La.) finished 2nd in 51-flat. Julien’s top 400m time in 2014 (49.03) ranks him 3rd in New England and 45th nationally, heading into the Division III New England Championships this weekend. Julien also finished 3rd at Regis in the 200m, finishing in 23.25. His season best time in the 200m puts him at 14th in New England. Junior Chloe Egan (Burlington, Vt.) snagged 3rd place in the women’s 400mH with a time of 73.40, while Valeria Fernandez (Valley Stream, N.Y.) took 5th in her PR time of 80.22. Freshman Shannon Gay (Woburn, Mass.) finished 3rd in the 200m, crossing the line in 27.70. Classmate Micaela Fraccalossi (Plymouth, Mass.) earned her PR in the 200m with a time of 28.29. Gay also earned a PR in her 100m race, finishing in 13.35. The four EC relay squads all earned top-three finishes, including a pair of wins by the men’s 4x400m and the 4x800m teams. Bruno, Julien and Thomas teamed up with senior captain Ben Perdue (West Springfield, Mass.) for a win in the 4x400m relay, finishing in 3:24.60. Tallo, Callan and Baker grabbed rookie Ian Chamenko (Beacon Falls, Conn.) for an 8:14.19 win in the men’s 4x800m relay. Gay, Fraccalossi, Zombik and Pierce-Dickens sprinted to a 3rd place finish in the women’s 4x100, relay with their combined time of 52.65. Senior Molly Metivier (Keene, N.H.) ran the lead off leg of the women’s 4x800m, which also included Egan, Julie Roberts (Williamsburg, Mass.) and Mauer. The team combined for a time of 10:41.72 to finish 3rd overall. Other notable performances on the track included a PR of 16:45.98 by Chris Connelly (Quincy, Mass.) in the men’s 5K. Sophomore Corey Hebert (Acushnet, Mass.) earned 5th place in the men’s 3K steeplechase with his time of 10:54.93. In the field, senior captain Kelly Ulf (Lunenburg, Mass.) earned a win in the women’s long jump, reaching 16’2.75. She also snagged 2nd in the high jump with her jump of 4’11.75. Freshman Ashley Brooks (Danvers, Mass.) took 1st place in the high jump, also hitting 4’11.75. For the Emmanuel men, Timothy Hopp (Stoneham, Mass.) was 4th overall, jumping 5’7”. The qualifying Emmanuel student-athletes will compete at Springfield College in the New England Division III Championships first first weekend in May. Senior Nate Bruno (Lenox, Mass.) picked up his fifth win of the season in the men’s 400mH. Bruno’s 1st place time of 53.57 was an improvement on Nathan Bruno (left) and Ryan Thoams (right) finished first and second in the 400mH his ECAC qualifying time and he now ranks 3rd in New England and 14th event, with Bruno crossing the finish line in 53.57. nationally in this event. Junior Ryan Thomas (Wakefield, R.I.) earned another 2nd place performance in the 400mH, finishing just behind Bruno in 55.54. He currently ranks 10th in New England in this event. Senior Chris Baker (Holden, Mass.) added a 3rd place performance to the 400mH race, helping Emmanuel to sweep the podium, as he crossed the line in 60.14.
VOLLEYBALL
Competing in his final regular season collegiate meet, senior Patrick Callan (Pawling, N.Y.) ran down his personal record in the men’s 800m. Callan’s time of 2:01.49 was good enough for 5th place, while teammate Tom Tallo (Lincoln, R.I.) grabbed 7th in 2:03.04. Sophomore Craig Schoaf (Raynham, Mass.) notched his PR of 2:09.55 in the same race.
