Office of Student Financial Services (OSFS) September/October 2012 Newsletter Where can I find information about the Office of Student Financial Services (OSFS)? The OSFS posts information on the Student Financial Services page of MySaints (mysaints.emmanuel.edu). Some topics include:
Financing options Scholarships The financial aid renewal process Tuition bill due dates Student employment Other important information
We encourage you to familiarize yourself with MySaints, as it will help you stay up to date with your account.
You may also make online payments and view your bill and financial aid award letter through the Online Academic Resources section of MySaints. Students with a financial hold will see a notification when they sign into their MySaints account. To register for the Spring 2013 semester, all outstanding obligations must be resolved.
Refunds If you have a credit on your account after paying your bill, you may reduce your loan amount or have the credit applied toward your next semester balance. You may also request a refund through Online Academic Resources via MySaints, on the Emmanuel website, or in the OSFS. Students who request their refund through Online Academic Resources may request to have the funds directly deposited into their bank account. Because financial aid is disbursed after the add/drop period, most refunds are not available until mid-October for the fall semester. However, some funds, such as state grants, are generally not disbursed until November. Additionally, students with a remaining spring balance, after financial aid, may not be eligible to receive a fall refund. If you have questions about when your refund will be available, please e-mail us at financialservices@emmanuel.edu. Spring semester refunds will be available beginning in mid-March after the add/drop period. Please plan accordingly if you use your refund to purchase books or pay for off-campus expenses.
Federal Direct Subsidized Stafford Loan Rates Over the summer, the Federal Direct Subsidized Stafford Loan interest rate was expected to double from a fixed 3.4% to 6.8%. However, an agreement was reached by lawmakers to keep the Federal Direct Subsidized Stafford Loan interest rate at 3.4%. Students must have financial need to qualify for the Federal Direct Subsidized Stafford Loan. The federal government pays the interest of the Federal Direct Subsidized Stafford Loan while students are enrolled at least half-time and during deferment periods. Students are not required to have financial need to qualify for the Federal Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loan. The interest rate is fixed at 6.8%. Students are responsible for paying the interest during all periods. For more information about the Federal Direct Stafford Loan, please visit www.emmanuel.edu.
