t was great talking with so many of you about my first column of the new year, “Let’s call it 2024.” Just a reminder, if you missed any of the past issues of Webb Weekly, they can be found archived at webbweekly. com. I should also mention for people outside of our distribution area or who like reading online, the current issue is posted every Wednesday, which is our cover date. So, I should probably leave it alone because almost everybody I talk to understood that my writing was intended to be a fun way to kick off the New Year, with the exception of a couple of folks who were literally irate over the column. If the truth was told, they were upset about me mentioning President Biden in my writing. And I can guarantee you I couldn’t win, no matter what I said about the President. I can assure you I didn’t mention him for any other reason than that I knew people would wonder why I didn’t include him. That’s why I waited until the end of that segment. The next thing, in case you didn’t read it, the only thing I

said is, “There is nothing I find humorous about the Biden administration.” which I would hope would be taken on face value, with all that is currently going on in our Nation and around the world. Now, here’s the thing I find most interesting: I could have substituted President Biden for Bigfoot, Bernie Sanders, or even Mother Nature, and almost everyone would have still found it funny, coupled with a futuristic twist of 2024. However, for the couple that had the problem with it, I know they would have been even more outraged. And I will leave that at that. There were a couple of folks who suggested I should have used Donald Trump, and I found humor in this. I honestly did not because what you read was the cast of characters who came out of my head as I penned the article, not to mention Donald Trump is not our current President. I shared my thoughts with those who suggested this, what his role could have been in the story, and we had a good laugh. I’m the most approachable guy you

I have often written over the years how so many of you have become like friends and extended family, even though I may have never met you in person. If, for any reason, your postal carrier misses you, please let me know. Mistakes do happen as we continue to mail
out about 58,000 each week, and my staff and I will make sure you get one. In closing things out this week, here’s a last call to show me your bucks. One of my favorite contests of the year, our Uncle Ron’s Annual Monster Buck Contest, is winding down. With the second season ending January 15th, you have until January 22nd to get any buck registered that has been taken legally and within our local area this season. Please remember our philosophy that a trophy is in the hands of the holder. Any buck harvested automatically gets you registered for a random rifle drawing courtesy of Sauers Trading; they also take care of all legalities. And for every hunter taking the time to enter, we make a donation to help battle multiple sclerosis. Full details can be found on page 43. he timing for Martin Luther King Jr. Day can be a little awkward for our publication. Because we come out on Wednesday, we are either really early or too late. But that doesn’t mean that we skip it. Next week brings us MLK Dream Week, presented by STEP AmeriCorps, Penn College, Lycoming College, the Central PA Food Bank, the Lycoming County United Way, the United Churches of Lycoming County, and the NAACP Lycoming Tri-County. The week will be filled with events to honor the legacy of the late Dr. King. This year’s theme will be “It Starts With Me: Shifting the Cultural Climate.” On January 15th, there are several events that you can participate in, including the Kids’ Dream Week Storytime, which is for families with children ages birth through 2nd grade at the James V. Brown Library, 19 E. 4th St., Williamsport. The Storytime will be from 10:00-11:15 a.m. in the 3rd floor Lowry Room. There will also be a Dream Read for teens and adults at the library from 5:30-6:30 p.m. The largest event of the week will be the STEP AmeriCorps Peace Walk. This will begin at the corner of 3rd and Markets streets in Williamsport and will begin at 1:00 p.m.

he Harlem Wizards will spin their basketball wizardry and prestidigitation (magic) again when they appear at the Williamsport High School Gym (the aptly nicknamed Magic Dome) on Wednesday, January 17, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The event is being held to raise funds for the Williamsport Area School District Education Foundation. “We’re excited to bring back an event that’s proven to be family-friendly for the community and one that ultimately benefits our students through the foundation. Last year, with the support of our community and sponsors, we were able to raise a net total of more than $20,000,” Greg Hayes, Executive Director of the Williamsport Area School District Education Foundation, told Webb Weekly. commissioners, especially highlighted by State Representatives Joe Hamm and Jamie Flick, who both presented state proclamations for the two departing commissioners. When the agenda was FINALLY finished, and the commissioners gave their last comments, Commissioner Chairman Scott Metzger was about to end the meeting when he was reminded that they still had to have “Public Comments.” I sunk deeper in my chair because I wondered what else could be said. But not for the first time; I was very wrong. The last three speakers were exceptional professionals, and what they said was well worth the wait. The first was Jim Dunn, a former township supervisor for Armstrong Township, who thanked the commissioners for their support of

he last Lycoming County Commissioners Meeting of 2023, held on December 28th, was sort of like watching the third film in the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy. Every time it seemed to be over, one more scene popped up. The “Return of the King” lasted three hours and twenty-one minutes, and when the commissioners’ meeting hit the threehour mark, I was afraid my wife might be calling 911 to report her missing husband. Seriously, I was already forced to cancel two appointments and was losing hope that I would be able to stick around much longer to give my own personal final congrats to the outgoing commissioners, Tony Mussare and Rick Mirabito. This unique meeting was a combination of an official commissioner meeting sprinkled with a farewell party at the same time. Almost every public official of note was in attendance, along with former elected officials and other local politicians and dignitaries. This last meeting of the year, and especially for Mussare and Mirabito, had enough drama to be a Hollywood film, especially when the subject of reassessment came up and was voted on. (More on that in upcoming articles). But amid a good old-fashioned debate, there were many appreciations for the two outgoing

COUNTY HALL an amazing conservation project known as the Robert Porter Allen Natural Area along Sylvan Dell Road in South Williamsport. This natural preservation project is something that generations yet to come will appreciate greatly. Dunn was followed by Sheriff Mark Lusk, who always seems like he is auditioning to be a late-night comedian, but in truth, when Sheriff Lusk talks, he is worth listening to. He shared backstories related to the outgoing commissioners, especially how much work and problems they all went through during the COVID shutdowns. As much as I was following this in real-time
back in 2020-2021, much of what Lusk was sharing was news to me. It was a memorable tribute. And then came the final speaker, Director of Voter Services Forrest Lehman. Of all the department heads that I have engaged in the past decade, Forrest is the sharpest of them all. I am always impressed with his range of knowledge. So, it was not such a surprise that when Lehman went to the podium to congratulate Tony Mussare and Rick Mirabito, it was memorable. Lehman’s comments were not just antidotes of his interactions with the commissioners, but rather, he broadened his re-
marks to congratulate all those who serve in public service: those who work the polls on election days, borough council members, township supervisors, school board directors, etc. He did it by citing Theodore Roosevelt’s 1910 speech entitled “Citizenship in a Republic,” which is popularly known as “The Man in the Arena.” Lehman highlighted the most wellknown portion of the speech to recognize these servants and what it costs them to serve: “It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes
short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows the great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows, in the end, the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.” It was a tribute that was so inspiring; when Lehman finished, there was a momentary awe throughout the meeting room, and then Commissioner Metzger looked back at me and stated, “Mr. Stout, I think that you have your article for next week right there!” I couldn’t agree more.

A
pproximately 100 Office of Price Administration agents, police officers, and other state, county and borough enforcement personnel began “spot-checking” today in Lycoming County for violators of the new “no pleasure” driving order to conserve supplies of gasoline. Clarification of how the government would put the teeth in the order came at noon when O.P.A. representatives began distribution of instructions and procedures to local police agencies. The Williamsport office carried instructions to the police department, county, and borough officers. State Motor Police were expected to receive orders from their headquarters at Harrisburg. Ray S. Thrall, manager of the O.P.A.
district office said parked cars will be “spot-checked” at all places of amusement, recreation, and entertainment. Cars observed on sightseeing trips, touring on vacation travel will be stopped and the operator questioned as to the legality of the trip. It was further pointed out that the burden of proof that the driving is permissible rests on the operator and owner of the automobile. The entire O.P.A. staff is deputized to police the gasoline order and with other enforcement officers will turn in license numbers of violators to the nearest O.P.A. office or War Price and Rationing Board. In case of a violation, the local War and Ration Boards may take action to cut off or reduce the rations of violators. No police officer is authorized to arbitrarily lift any ration coupon book, it was made plain.

And of course, as I’ve often pointed out in these reviews: Christmas music, movies and other observances tend to key on this melancholy magic of the past. Speaking of which: Nearly every year at holiday time, I put together a list of under-the-radar Christmas films. This one is going right at the top of next year’s roster. But don’t wait till then.

As always with Payne, the acting is exceptional, with standouts including the two leads, along with Da’Vine Joy Randolph as Mary and Jim Kaplan as an outcast student from Korea who is missing his family. Better yet, Payne and his writer, David Hemingson — who is basically making his debut here — really underplay the inevitable redemption; the film’s finale is genuinely heartwarming without feeling shallow, maudlin or manipulative. I make it clear to the teachers that if our child is in trouble at school, we will deal with it at home. That we have the teachers’ backs and full support. We want to know everything going on and that they better be respectful. Now, there had been a time or two where I did get into it with a counselor/teacher. I am not saying all situations are the same! My momma bear came out, and my child needed to be defended! But my children will NOT be disrespectful to their peers or teachers without having consequences at home. It’s just the way it goes. I remind myself, though, that not all

She was my first customer of the day, and I’m afraid this is just how my day is going to go.” I apologized to her that she had to deal with people like that and told her there were still good people out there. We had a nice few minutes together; she handed me my receipt, and I said Merry Christmas and was on my way. Why do people have to be this way? Like when you go out to eat. If you can’t be nice to your server and leave a decent tip, then it’s super simple: DON’T GO OUT. The nurse is trying to help you when you are sick, be kind. They are trying to help you! They probably don’t want to be there as much as you do, but it’s their job to take care of you and get you out of the hospital. Their job would go so much better if they felt appreciated. Parents, what’s up with you always taking your child’s side and being so rude to the teacher!? Did you ever think, “Hmmm, well, maybe little Bobby isn’t the precious little angel we thought he was?” Listen, I have gotten calls about my kids here and there. I listen to the teacher and speak to my kids about it. If my kids are in the wrong, that teacher is backed up one hundred percent! Each year at the school open house, my husband and

HOME COOKIN people are bad or treat others poorly. There are a lot of good people in this world! I work as a part-time secretary at a fueling company, and I’ve been there for sixteen months. When I started, I remember Cindy saying to me that I would get to know our customers over time. She was right. I have really gotten to know so many of them! I answer the phones, and I have to say that I have only had two experiences with someone who is grumpy. Everyone has been so kind. It’s refreshing! All I am trying to say is to treat others the way you would want to be treated.
You don’t know what that cashier is going through. You don’t know if that nurse just pulled a double shift. Have you ever had twenty-five kids in one class room and tried getting them all to listen to you so you can do your job!? Let me tell you what: we had around fifteen kids at our house for youth group this December. I love each of these kids, but during devotions, they were being little turds and talking over my cousin Lindsay Clark (who is a teacher!) and just wouldn’t listen to her. My big mouth stepped in after one minute of this. (AND this is a big fat why “Andrea
is NOT a teacher.”) If everyone would be a little kinder. If more people smiled. If parents stepped in when their kids are doing wrong. If more people thought less of themselves and more about others. If people realized that we are all human too and have feelings, maybe the world would be a better place. We all have bad days, but treating others poorly doesn’t give you an excuse. Doesn’t cost anything to be nice! Please be kind. YOU can make a difference! ou may associate the cold weather with being sick or catching a cold. Contrary to the old saying, the weather is not directly responsible for making you sick, but it can affect your body. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), millions of people in the U.S. develop the common cold each year. On average, most adults get two or three colds a year. Colds are typically caused by rhinovirus or one of 200 other viruses. You are exposed to these viruses your whole life and year-round, but your body may respond in different ways during different times of the year. During the winter months, outdoor temperatures drop, and humidity is low making the air dry. Add this to the increased time spent inside your heated house, exposing you to more dry air as well as environmental allergens, and you increase the chances of experiencing cold-like symptoms, allergies, or other respiratory issues. Additionally, the dry air, allergens, and cold temperatures can decrease blood flow to the nose and ears and may aggravate the symptoms of a cold. Symptoms of a cold vary, but may include: – Runny or stuffy nose
– Sore throat – Cough – Congestion – Slight body aches or a mild headache – Sneezing – Low-grade fever If you do get a cold, the best treatment is to rest and drink plenty of fluids, especially water. Most colds go away on their own. Viral infections will typically clear up within seven to 14 days. If your symptoms get worse or do not go away in 14 days, you should call your doctor. You should also follow these simple tips when you have a cold: – Wash your hands often and cover your mouth with a tissue or in your elbow when coughing and sneezing to prevent sharing your cold with others. – Drink plenty of fluids to stay well hydrated. Lemon tea with honey or hot water can also help soothe throats and reduce cough. – Get lots of rest and sleep. – Use humidifiers and vaporizers, especially at night, to help ease respiratory symptoms. – Ask you doctor about safe, over the counter medications for your symptoms. If soap and water are not available, alcohol sanitizers are acceptable. It’s the 20 seconds of abrasion between the hands that matters, not the solvent. – Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth. – Avoid close contact with people who are sick and take a sick day when you don’t feel well. – Sneeze and cough into tissues. Discard used tissues right away. Then thoroughly wash your hands. – Take care of yourself. Eating well, getting exercise, making sure your vaccines are up to date, committing to quality sleep and managing stress might help you avoid getting sick. – Keep your space tidy and clean. Clean kitchen and bathroom countertops with disinfectant, especially when someone in your family has a cold. Be diligent about wiping down doorknobs and frequently touched surfaces. Cold and flu season is upon us and with it comes the flurry of well-meaning advice handed down through generations. So do bundle up when it is cold outside, but don’t worry about catching a cold just because it’s cold. dience — a complete disregard for rules, law, or authority. For the sake of clarity, duplicity (last week’s article) is hidden rejection of God’s authority; defiance is public reTim jection of God’s Hartzell authority. The defiant make no attempt at concealment. They pride themselves on not being hypocrites like most of the religious people they know. The defiant openly reject God and His authority — unless they need someone to blame for their misfortune. We’ll come back to that in a moment. The defiant see themselves as highly sophisticated and intelligent. They are too enlightened to put their faith in a Santa Claus god who grants wishes to some and puts others on the naughty list. They see religious faith as something for weak, needy, and ignorant people who need a crutch to get through life. When the defiant are healthy and prosperous, they openly shake their fists toward heaven because they have proven their philosophy to be correct.
God is not needed and does not exist. When tragedy strikes, the defiant openly shake their fists toward heaven because they need an unjust and unfair Darth Vader god to blame for their troubles. Isn’t that convenient? When all is good, pat yourself on the back for being so incredibly smart and independent. When life goes sour, hate and blame the villain-god for smiting you. The Old Testament Israelites are a prime example of defiance. When they were prosperous and healthy, they forgot about God. When things went bad, they blamed God. Do you see it? Take credit for the good and blame God for the bad. This is the lukewarm neither-in-norout defiance Jesus was describing in Laodicea. Defiance is especially repugnant to God. Jesus warned the defiant that He would spit them out of his mouth. God warned Israel in Deuteronomy 8 that they would be destroyed for their defiance: When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the Lord your God for the good land he has given you. Be careful that you do not forget the Lord your God, failing to observe his commands, his laws, and his decrees that I am giving you this day. Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you build

Here’s the first half; all are nouns unless noted, with pronunciation given only where needed: Agouti (uh-GOO-tee) – Medium-sized rodent of South America, Central America and the West Indies; in appearance, it’s a blend of squirrel, rabbit, rat and guinea pig (but like the latter, it has no tail). Ambeer – A slang expression used chiefly in the American South, this refers to the juice from chewing tobacco. The term derives from the amber hue of this substance; but wouldn’t that also be sort of ale-colored? In any case, I think I’ll stick with actual beer — thanks.
Bashaw – (buh-SHAW) – A person who is bossy or self-important; or maybe one who is genuinely important — like someone of significant rank. The term is a variant of the Middle Eastern word pasha, formerly used as a title for high political office in Turkey. Chikee (chi-KEE or CHIK-ee) – Seminole Indian word for an open-sided dwelling made of thatch and stilts; in modern times, it can also refer to a temporary hut like this at the beach. Preferred spelling: chickee. Dreck – Yiddish term for trash or rubbish. A fairly common word — but still fun! Dybbuk (DIH-buk) – In Jewish folklore, a wandering soul or demon that enters and controls a living body; exorcised only by religious ritual. Fecula – Foul or muddy material; “dregs.” Also, fecal matter, especially from insects. Related adjective: feculent. Foozle (verb) – In sports, to bungle or play badly: “Dude, you really foozled that putt.” Also a noun. Fungo – Probably well-known to many in this home of Little League, fungo is a sports term I didn’t know till

I
t was a dinosaur bone. Not really but it was fun thinking that it was, even for a while. You were just seven years old then, and the truth (it was a simple rock) didn’t deter you from digging some more. It never
stopped you from dreaming of ancient treasure or the rarest of relics. It shouldn’t keep you from enjoying those feelings again in “The Lost Tomb” by Douglas Preston. Does that name sound familiar? It might: Preston is a best-selling co-novelist of history-based thrillers, but his fans may be surprised to learn that he’s also a journalist who loves a good fact-based adventure. Digging for a story, for Preston, is almost as much fun as digging in the dirt, and this collection of his articles shows it. He begins with a tale of murder that was a little close to home: an old friend,
someone Preston had lost touch with, was killed years after their last contact. Unearthing the guy’s name online, says Preston, “was not knowledge as power; it was knowledge as sorrow.” In 2006, he wrote about The Monster of Florence, a killer who viciously mutilated some of his victims. Preston was so fascinated with the crime that he befriended an “expert on the case,” and eventually collaborated on a true-crime book with the man but too much digging got the expert arrested and Preston ousted from Italy. He wrote in 2020 about an archaeological mystery, and dozens of skeletal remains in a lake in the Himalayas. A year
later, he wrote an article about another mystery that happened in Russia more than six decades ago and he believes that there’s finally a solution to what happened – although the latest answer is still controversial.

s the fall hunting seasons draw to a close, the word is that a good number of hunters throughout our area have fresh venison burger tucked away in the freezer and back straps available for the grill. Some even got their fall turkey, and the really lucky ones added a black bear to their recent success. A few less fortunate hunters will have to count on store-bought beef, chicken, and pork to make it through the months ahead. For the unsuccessful hunters, perhaps a few more days in the hunting seasons might be the answer, but the chances are slim to none that any of the seasons will be expanded in the foreseeable future. The good news is that the season to greatly influence your chance for success begins tomorrow. Between now and the beginning of the fall seasons (with the exception of the spring gobbler season), there is plenty of time to increase the odds for success this year.
If you really want to up your chances at bringing home free-range, nutritious, and chemical-free wild game meat, there are many things you can do during the next few months that will lead to greater success. The planning and executing of a habitat project or two can easily be accomplished over these otherwise activity-free winter months. One of the greatest habitat improvement ideas that we have discussed before is a small clearcut in a woods setting that can later be turned into a food plot. With snow on the ground, it is much easier to identify just where the more active game trails are that cross the property you are hunting. If possible, you might try to develop a cutting — and future food plot — near a crossing point of multiple active game trails. By dropping all of the trees now in this future food plot, you make available a much-needed food source in the form of twigs and buds that deer will use to supplement their stored fat and dwindling supply of acorns. This, then, becomes an excellent location for a nearby tree stand. It is well known that ruffed grouselike areas have early growth stage aspen seedlings and trees. Further, when an aspen tree is cut down, frequently they will reestablish by root regeneration, where seedlings will actually sprout along the root line of the old tree. By cutting several mature aspens in close proximity to each other, you will first provide needed feed for deer, and later, as the seedlings become saplings and small trees, you will provide an improved habitat for our state bird — the ruffed grouse. With the majority of the hunting seasons closed or coming to a close, you can begin a new “season” by gathering up a few tools, heading to the woods and begin preparing for what future seasons might provide. Not only will the habitat be better, but you will be in better shape to climb the hills when spring gobbler season begins in less than four short months!

Hinge cutting is accomplished by not cutting all the way through the tree but stopping short so that the tree tips over and still has a portion of its trunk uncut — allowing minerals and nutrients to continue to flow through the cambium layer and keep the tree alive. In the spring, the tree will bud out, then leaf out and provide a living “hedge” of cover around the perimeter of the opening. This cover might help provide an ideal location for a climber stand or ladder stand once the food plot is established. While the chainsaw is sharp, think about clearing and enhancing existing trails, old logging roads, and log landings. Deer, bears, and turkeys are like humans in that they like to take the easy way most times. That is how heavily traveled trails are developed, and frequently, game will travel old logging roads and skid trails. You can keep the game using the same trails by removing fallen logs and limbs that make the game walk around these obstacles. By keeping the game using these same trails, you

In that first flintlock hunt, there were only 2,064 licenses sold, and the harvest was only 65 deer — 61 antlerless and four antlered. We’ve come a long way since those early flintlock hunting days. In 2022, the Game Commission sold 142,687 resident muzzleloader licenses and 7,637 non-resident licenses, and as expected, the deer kill has gone up as well. The estimated 2022-23 deer harvest, not just for flintlocks but for the muzzleloader seasons overall, was 24,520 antlerless deer and 1,230 bucks. Speaking of committees, unlike the NCAA’s, its members are not publicly known, but those individuals tasked with selecting Pennsylvania’s All-State football squads should be well-thoughtof locally as a bevy of area athletes earned recognition. South Williamsport’s Chris Eiswerth’s 13th season as the Mountaineers head coach concluded with the honor of being named Pennsylvania’s Class A Coach of the Year. His team won the District IV championship and advanced to the state semifinals. Eiswerth joins Jersey Shore’s
Tom Gravish as the only area coaches to achieve the honor this century. Three of Eiswerth’s players were named to the Class A All-State team: seniors Ryan Casella (running back), offensive lineman Chris Confer, and junior defensive back Dylan Scheller. Muncy running back junior Austin Johnson joined the South trio on the Class A team. During his three varsity seasons, Johnson ran for more than 1,000 yards and has scored touchdowns in 17 straight games. Loyalsock also had a trio of players named to the AAA team. Quarterback Tyler Gee earned all-state honors for the third straight year and became the first District Four player to top 2,000 passing
yards in each of those years. Gee’s favorite target, wide receiver Jaylen Andrews (73 receptions, 1,465 yards, and 13 TDs), and linebacker Logan Bastain joined him on the first team. For the fifth straight year, three Jersey Shore Bulldogs were selected to the state’s AAAA team: seniors Dyson Delaney (offensive lineman), Bo Sechrist (linebacker), and junior Elijah Jordan (runner, receiver, safety). Additionally, Coach Gravish received the honor to coach Pennsylvania’s Big 33 team in this year’s game. Congratulations on the well-deserved recognition our area athletes received. Kudos also go out to the committee members making those selections.

I
ran into an old friend at the Magic Dome last week — someone I haven’t seen in fifteen years. Rahim Washington was a former teammate back in ’95. I was a senior, and Rahim was a talented freshman. We were part of a Millionaire squad that went to the state final. Washington was legit. He was extremely athletic and super quick. Rahim moved to Philadelphia that summer. I went off to college, and we lost contact. My man finished at Overbrook High — the same school as Wilt Chamberlain. Rahim had a stellar scholastic career. He averaged 22 points per game his senior campaign. Washington was All-City in ’98 — a ridiculous honor for this Williamsport native. Rahim then went to Neumann University and blossomed. Washington was a tough combo guard who is now in their sports Hall of Fame. He was a matchup problem. Rahim even played a few years professionally after college — a rather impressive resume. Rahim returned home to coach
hoops and teach at Prep Charter. The Huskies were legit in the mid-2000s. They won multiple PIAA State Titles. Washington mentored several bigtime players. Yes. You might know the 6’9 Morris twins. Both Marcus and Markieff are still playing. Rahim now serves as Prep Charter’s head coach. The landscape is quite different. His team still plays hard, but the school shut down for two years because of the pandemic. They are now rebuilding. A lot of new faces. Very raw. Rahim continues to shape and mold youngsters. My teammate came over immediately after. His team was just defeated in the first round of the Millionaire Christmas Tournament. Again. It was fifteen years at least — almost 30 years since we played together. But Rahim and I talked and laughed for the next two quarters. We shared stories on basketball and bragged about our families. I got to introduce him to my son Jensen. Our memories were quite vivid. Rahim does a fantastic Coach White imperson-

Our conversations continued. We didn’t talk much about the games. It was more of the interactions. It was fantastic. My teammate. OK. Hold this thought. I will get back to it a tad later. I am so very proud of the entire Williamsport Area 9th grade hoops team. And what they recently did will never show up in the stat sheets. I often preach about being good people. Well, these boys just took it to a new level. One of their teammates was in need of some new sneakers. Unfortunately, he did not have the resources. ALL of them got together and ponied up. No adults. No coaches. Just the kids. They presented these

new NIKE JA MORANTS to their teammate. There is a video of this very special moment. You should have seen the smiles and jubilation. A bunch of guys coming together for the right reasons. This player now had an unbelievable swagger. He was grinning ear to ear. My new favorite guy even got into the game in the fourth quarter. He was everywhere. Hustling and diving after loose balls. He traveled and had three fouls. But towards the end — he found himself wide open and under the basket. His shot went in, and the entire gym went ballistic. The guys on the bench went absolutely crazy. His first two points of the season. Goosebumps. Everyone on this team will remember this moment. Going the extra mile to help another. That smile when he opened his package. Then, moments later, he scored his first bucket. What a beautiful moment. So glad that I was there to witness. Proud of my guys. They will talk about this 30 years from now. I am dead serious. That’s the great thing about sports and being teammates. Cheers.
