Bishop Vesey's Grammar School
Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School provides outstanding challenge, support and enjoyment for able boys. Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School is a very special place, providing an outstanding, academically challenging and well-rounded education for able boys from Birmingham and across the Midlands since the 16th Century. Our academic profile is comfortably in the top sixty schools nationally: 81% A*-B (A level, 2012), 67% A*-A (GCSE, 2012). Just under two thirds of our students leave at 18 to study at the prestigious Russell Group universities. At the same time, our extra-curricular provision is first-rate, wide-ranging and of national renown. The welcoming atmosphere within the school, which reaches out to all those who visit or join the school, emanates from a sense of purpose and togetherness. Staff and students cherish our history. We know that future success depends on hard work, resilience and a reflective outlook. Bishop Vesey’s is a thinking school. Like Sir Chris Hoy, our most successful Olympian, “We point the mirror at ourselves and continuously ask 'how can we get better?'" Judged “Outstanding” once again by OFSTED in June 2011, Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School represents the rich and diverse cultural, linguistic and faith heritages of Birmingham and beyond, with community cohesion at the heart of the life of the school. Our safe, secure and happy environment enables students to engage in school life with energy and enthusiasm, adopting leadership roles from year 7 to the Upper 6th which directly influence teaching and learning and wider school development. Students feel encouraged, empowered and trusted to bring about change. Those who are privileged to be associated with school become deeply affiliated to it and look back on their time at the school with fond affection. Importantly, we equip students with the skills to thrive in the 21st Century. Our students have the benefit of having one of the most attractive and green school sites in the Midlands. However, we strongly resist any temptation to be inward-looking. Students are encouraged to see that true happiness and fulfilment in life come from service to others. We are an international school which takes care for our neighbour very seriously. Charitable giving is central to the life of our community.
We know that our students have the capacity to be the future leaders, who will improve and re-define the world in which we live. Dominic Robson BA (Hons) NPQH, Headteacher, September 2012
