That may sound crazy to some of you as Old Man Winter might not be ready to let go, but the calendar says spring is upon us, and he can’t hold on forever. It is true that the area really comes to life as the weather warms, but don’t discount the experience of getting outside even when it is colder. For fishing enthusiasts, it doesn’t get any better than the pair of lake chains we have in Coldwater! Whether you have an auger and a snow suit or a sun hat and a rowboat, you’ll want to get your bait in the water.
Coldwater is known for its lakes. We have a lot of them, and they are truly unique. The North Chain, located northwest of town, is a fisherman’s paradise. It is a long chain, consisting of seven all-sport lakes connected by channels, covering around 1,100 acres and running roughly seven miles from north to south. With public boat launches spread throughout the chain, it is accessible to everyone. There is a sandy county beach at the southern end, and lakefront campgrounds are everywhere. intuitively known as the South Chain, is southeast of the city. Water clarity is excellent, and it boasts over 16 boatable miles of lakes covering 3,500 acres. These are true destinations for visitors to our area, and they don’t disappoint!
If you prefer to let the professionals catch the fish for you, there are other interesting ways to enjoy the outdoors in Coldwater during this season. Ride the rails on an authentic 100-year-old steam engine train at the Little River Railroad! You won’t want to miss their “Easter Bunny Express,” running April 2 and 3 at 2PM. For a different sort of outdoor adventure, head downtown and take in what the city has to offer. Shop at our trendy crafter’s oasis, Craft Out Loud!, or the quaint gift shop down the street, Museum Gallery. Culy’s Jewelry is a family-owned jewelry store with outstanding customer service.
