Head Coach Tim Crompton

12th season • Weber State ’96 Overall: 84-105-24 • Big Sky: 39-31-11

C

oach Tim Crompton enters his 12th season as head coach of the Wildcats — 13th season overall — after taking over for co-head coaches Lynn Kofoed and Tom VudhiVadhana in the summer of 2004. Crompton led the Wildcats to a 10-5-5 overall record and the Big Sky Conference tournament championship in 2013 as Weber State defeated Portland State to win the title and advance to the program's third NCAA appearance. Crompton also led the Wildcats to the Big Sky Conference championship each of his first two years, and he was honored with the Big Sky Conference Coach of the Year award both seasons. In Crompton’s inaugural season as head coach, he guided WSU to the program’s second Big Sky Championship and to its first-ever berth in the NCAA College Cup. The ‘Cats finished the season at 8-10-2 overall. After finishing the Big Sky regular season in fourth place at 2-2-2, the ‘Cats posted two shutouts to knock off Portland State and Montana and claim the Big Sky tournament title. The postseason run ended with a 3-0 loss in the NCAA First Round. In that match, WSU fell to fifth-

league play, advancing to the tournament with eight freshman starters, before falling in a penalty kick shootout against tournament host Idaho State. In 2013, WSU finished 5-2-2 in league play, advancing to the tournament for the third straight year, and defeating Northern Arizona and Portland State to make the program's third appearance in the NCAA tournament.

ranked Portland on the Pilots’ home turf. In 2005, the Wildcats won their second-straight conference title, posting the third-best record in school history. The ‘Cats also advanced to the second round of the NCAA College Cup with a shootout win over Brigham Young, and narrowly missed advancing to the Sweet 16, falling to Arizona 1-0 in the second round. After dueling to a 1-1 draw over 120 minutes of play, the Wildcats defeated the Cougars with a 4-3 edge in penalty kicks for the program’s first-ever College Cup win. In 2008, the Wildcats claimed the Big Sky regular season championship with a 5-2 conference record (9-10-2 overall). WSU extended its streak of Big Sky postseason appearances to six-straight years and made it four-straight years of finishing in the top two in the league standings. The ‘Cats fell to Northern Arizona in the conference title game. In 2011, Weber State finished in third place in the Big Sky regular season, but advancing to the Big Sky postseason championship match before coming up short in a penalty kick shootout against Montana. In 2012, the Wildcats finished 5-3-1 in

Under Crompton’s charge, the Wildcats have posted a 84-105-24 overall record and have won over 54 percent of their Big Sky Conference regular season games (3931-11, .549). Crompton is 6-7-3 as a head coach in postseason play. Crompton spent one season as an assistant coach with the Weber State women’s soccer program prior to becoming head coach.

Over the three years prior to joining the Weber State staff, he was the head coach of the WSU men’s club soccer program and guided them to the 2002 National Club Championship. In both 2000 and 2001, his teams also finished in the top-10 nationally. Crompton graduated from Weber State in 1996 with a degree in Physical Education and Coaching. He currently holds a United States Soccer Federation National “A” License and National Soccer Coaches of America “Premier Diploma”. Coach Crompton has been on the Olympic Devolopment Program (ODP) coaching staff since 2007 as a Head Coach in various age groups Utah, and as a Region Staff Coach for Region IV ODP. Coach Crompton has spent the past 25 plus years developing players in our local community and continues to mentor players of all levels. Tim and his wife Dani have two children, Chansi, who is a junior on this year's team, and Rhees.

Wildcat Soccer Field

L

ocated just south of the C. William Stromberg Complex lies Wildcat Soccer Field at the WSU Physical Education Playfield, the home field of the Weber State University Women’s Soccer team since the inception of the program in 1996. The field has been the site of three Big Sky Conference postseason tournament championships (1998, 2001, 2008).

Wildcat Soccer Field underwent an extensive makeover in 2006. The field was completely renovated with a state of the art drainage and watering system and resurfaced with new sod, providing Weber State one of the premier playing surfaces in the state. Permanent bleachers were added to the west side of the field that provide seating for approximately 500 fans in 2010. Future plans call for lighting to provide the Wildcats the opportunity to host night matches.

he Big Sky Conference enters its 53rd year and 28th year of women’s competition during the 2015-16 academic year. The venerable and stable Division I Big Sky Conference observed its 50th birthday on July 1, 2013. Four of the current league members – Idaho State University, The University of Montana, Montana State and Weber State – have been with the league since its birth. Fellow charter member the University of Idaho returned most of its sports to the Big Sky on July 1, 2014. Northern Arizona University enters its 47th season in the league, giving the league five members with at least 40 years of continuous membership. The Big Sky Conference was established in 1963 by six charter members – Idaho, Idaho State, 48

Gonzaga, Montana, Montana State and Weber State. Those six schools formed the foundation of the Big Sky before the league expanded in 1970. The Big Sky’s full members represent nine states spanning from the Pacific Ocean to the Red River Valley of North Dakota. The league is represented along the entire west coast with institutions in Washington, Oregon and California. League schools also range up and down the Rocky Mountains with institutions in Montana, Idaho, Utah, Arizona and Colorado. It is “The Heart of the American West.” On Feb 25, 1963, the name Big Sky was adopted by the six presidents of the charter members as the name of the new conference. The name Big Sky originated in a novel written by the late A.B.

(Bud) Guthrie of Great Falls, Mont., in 1947 entitled “The Big Sky.” Jack Hollowell, a former Montana advertising director, promoted the Big Sky theme for the Treasure State. While on a track and field trip from Pocatello, Idaho, to Missoula, Mont., legendary Dubby Holt of Idaho State saw a “Welcome to Big Sky Country” sign as his team entered Montana. Holt, and his athletes thought “Big Sky” would be a perfect name for the new conference. Harry Missildine of the Spokane Spokesman-Review called for the newly formed league to be named the Big Sky Conference in his column dated Feb. 20, 1963. The Big Sky sponsors championships in 16 sports, including men’s and women’s cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field,

basketball and tennis. In addition, there are also championships in football, and women’s volleyball, golf and soccer. In 1988-89, the Big Sky Conference first began sponsoring women’s sports. The former Mountain West Conference existed from 1982-88, sponsoring championships for women’s sports at the same institutions the Big Sky had men’s programs. The Big Sky merged with the Mountain West in 1988, forming one league for both men and women. Doug Fullerton, the fifth commissioner of the Big Sky Conference, is in his 21st year at the helm. Fullerton took over the Big Sky on July 1, 1995. The first league commissioner was Jack Friel, who served from 1963-71.
