The troubled story of “Molisian Montepulciano” and hard losing battle to insert it in the Molise DOC demonstrates how often a major setback can produce a winning stimulus! Tintilia grapes belong to the ampelographic group of “Tintorie”(grapes with very colorful skin and juice) and up to the 19th century have represented the pillar of Molisian viticulture, but after World War I it began disappearing because of poor adaptability to the valley, infestation of the “Fillossera”, and many growers were looking for easier vines to grow. However, the persistence of a few winegrowers prevented the grape from extinction. The origin of the Tintilia grape is still uncertain—and often when there is an empty archive--folktales and history contributes to suggestive connotations to the events. It is told, that the first-born son of Conte Carafa of Ferrazzano (around 1300 A.D.) became engaged with the daughter of a senior official of the Kingdom of Naples, who is of Spanish origins. He requested that wine from his country be served during his daughter’s wedding feast. The success was dramatic and received unanimous appreciation from all guest. Shortly after the wedding, the young bride died and the
crowned their union. So the folktale would give a Spanish origin to the Tintilia grape and that is supported by the musicality of its name, but please do not from tell that to the Molisian people! In fact, the name “Tintilia” is a word derived from the dialectal term “tinta” (color). Another common dialect to define this grape is “Tintiglia” or “Tentiglia”, considering its peculiarity to stain clothing in dark red. Someone advanced in hypothesis suggests that the Tintilia grape could be the pseudonym of the Sardinian grape variety known as “Bovale Sardo” or “Bovale Grande”, but the genetic analysis test honor the expectations that in fact these varieties differ. Actually, 21 of the 22 samples of Tintilia examined, proved accurately identical among them and distinct from both “Bovale Sardo” and “Bovale Grande”. Just one sample resulted completely different from both the Tintilia and Bovale, undoubtedly an error in the sampling phase. Therefore, we can affirm that all the samples analyzed, coming from the 21 vineyards on the regional territory, are clones and genetically dissimilar from the Bovale grape varieties. Thus, the results exclude the supposed synonymy among Tintilia and Bovale grape

As the sculpture chisels marble, we cultivate our vineyards but without the disruption of the grapes’ unique essence, in attempt to create a family of wine, which we consider our masterpieces. We are confident that the best wines are not only the ones that improve with aging but also the wine that is young, fresh, and exciting. With persistent laborious devotion and care of our vineyard, patiently waiting for the best time to harvest, recognitions to the attention spent during vinification and bottling phases, we wanted to make an interesting and vivacious the sensations of smoothness without ever falling into the category of bland or heavy wines. In all our wines, perfumes release slowly introducing the taster to the fleshy fruit. The taste is ample and juicy due to the pleasing texture and low sense of acidity.
