reading SHORT STORY:
Welcome Home Pops My name is Virgil Williams Jr. My family calls me VW, but everyone in the old neighborhood called me VJ. Including POPS my favorite neighbor. That’s what we called him, but to the world he was known as Louis Armstong. Whenever POPS wasn’t traveling the globe playin’ his trumpet and singin’ like no body’s business, he was hangin’ out with us kids in Corona. All the kids wanted to live on the same block as POPS, I was fortunate enough to live across the street. He would always wave to me when he saw me sittin’ on my stoop and yell out in his deep gravelly voice, “Hey VJ, how you doin’ today?” When we saw his car coming down the street, and he got out we’d run up and greet him with a big, “welcome home POPS. Kids would come from out of no-where to help him with his bags and trumpet case. Everyone wanted to help ‘cause they knew that Mrs. Lucille was going to have ice cream for one and all. That was just the start of the fun…

Sharon's Project:
Paper Hats by Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art
The art to the left is named ‘Imagination’ and it is a part of the Masterworks’ Museum collection, telling stories of Bermuda and its people. It was painted in 2013 by local Bermuda artist, Sharon Wilson, and is part of her ‘Paper Hat Series’. Sharon was inspired by her school students who were asked to make hats using only paper. During her lesson, the children created unique designs which Sharon Wilson then captured in her paintings.
Here's how to design your own:
Step 1: On a piece of paper, draw the design of the hat you wish to make.
Step 2: Paint two/three sheets of paper in any colour(s) you desire.
3
4
5
Step 3: Once dry, cut out of a circle. The easiest way to do this is by folding the sheets of newspaper in four and then cutting out a quarter of the circle.
Step 4: Place the circle (made up of all three sheets of paper) on your head and tape around it to create the shape of the hat.
6
Step 5: Continue the design by adding newspaper where you want.
Step 6: Now you can complete your design by adding to your hat. This may include handmade flowers, feathers or any other recycled items. You can also add more colour by painting it.

kid-preneur
Younicorn Girl Ramaya Edwards
How did you come up with the name Younicorn Girl? I always wanted my business name to have something to do with unicorns, then I thought it was cool to use y-o-u at the beginning. What inspired you to start your own business and become a kidpreneur? Well it all started with Bermuda, in Bermuda we have a lot of hair products but none of them are all organic or just for kids. I also think we should be able to read the ingredients. I want to be a kidpreneur because I love owning my own business and I like the idea of helping people.
Why organic hair products and how are they important for kids & teens? They’re important for children and people in general because you need to know what’s going in and on your body. Chemicals are not good. How are the products made? What other products can we look forward to? The products are made at my home in Bermuda with the help of my mom and step dad when I do big batches. I use all organic ingredients, and my shea butter is 100% raw and organic from Ghana made by widows to assist with their needs and the needs of their village. In the near future, I will like to make scrubs, books and games for kids and teens. I want to help their minds and bodies. Any advice for kids like you that are looking to start their own business? You should make the time. Put time aside and effort to do your best work.
Younicorn Girl Organic Hair Food & Hair Drink
What are your plans for your future? What do you hope to achieve? I’d love to do more speaking events and events where I can sell my products. I’d also like to eventually put my products into local stores as well.

To create a keepsake using binary code, assign a separate color or bead for 0, 1, and spaces. This is a great opportunity to learn about how computers process numbers and symbols. What may seem like an ordinary bracelet, is actually a sequence that spells out a complete thought!
Here we used multi-color star beads to represent the zeros and blue beads to represent the ones.

Aaron Lugo Jr age:
10
school:
Francis Patton Primary School (lighthouse leader & red house vice-captain) hobbies:
aerial yoga, track, martial arts and cricket
Aaron Lugo Jr has been doing Jiu-Jitsu for 1 and a half years and is currently a first degree yellow/black belt. Aaron’s goal is to get his next stripe to become a second degree yellow/black in the next few months. He currently trains every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. Aaron aspires to obtain his black belt, to compete in different places around the world, and to meet other people. Aaron likes Jiu-Jitsu because he loves to learn the different self-defense techniques. His two favorite moves are the arm bar and the guillotine choke hold. He also enjoys the warm ups that he does in the class. In the world, he would like to see peace and joy, and he thinks there should be chocolate included in every store!
Evelyn Czember age:
9
school:
Saltus Grammar School hobbies:
baseball, golf and is learning piano
Evelyn’s Jiu-Jitsu journey commenced in September 2018 and it has quickly become her favorite sport. She trains 3 days a week and would train all 7 if her schedule permitted. She also enjoys helping Sensei twice a week with the beginner class her younger brother attends. She likes Jiu-Jitsu as it “teachers her self-defense, but I don’t have to break boards”. The main reasons she enjoys training are Sensei Cyril and her training partners, who have become her friends. She says, “Sensei Cyril is nice, fun and teaches us lots of cool stuff” and the kids are “kind, fun, caring and sometimes funny”. Evelyn thinks it is “really cool that boys and lots of girls are in Jiu-Jitsu”. She prefers training with the girls but says “it is more fun to beat the boys”. Evelyn’s favorite submission is an arm-bar and she would like to keep practicing Jiu-Jitsu until she is very old and becomes a Sensei.
