know…that violence against women is still a serious problem? …that 1 in 10 Canadians believe consent to sexual activity is not needed between partners and spouses? ...that a child who witnesses spousal violence is experiencing a form of child abuse? Victim Services also collaborates with many community agencies to help ensure we can provide a broad community response to family violence.

 Is Your Car Locked?

Vehicle theft is a crime of opportunity and a problem not only in Alberta but right here at home. Vehicles are stolen or broken into anywhere including parking lots, shopping centres, and driveways. Be proactive and protect yourself; park in a sensible well-lit place; LOCK ALL THE DOORS and close all windows, take all your keys and hide your valuables out of sight. Do not leave purses, wallets, laptops, change, brief cases, personal documents, parcels, etc. unattended in your vehicle. Most thefts occur because vehicles have been left unlocked. Don’t become a statistic.

 Are You Interested in Volunteering to Help People in Your Own Community?

 WEED INSPECTION

What is the difference between a Weed Report and a Weed Notice? A Weed Report is a document used by the County of Wetaskiwin to inform the landowner that they have Noxious Weeds on their property that should be controlled.

A Weed Notice is a legal document that is issued to landowners when they do not control their Noxious or Prohibited Noxious Weeds. When you receive a weed notice the instructions of the weed notice must be followed by the date specified on the notice. Failure to comply with a Weed Notice by the specified date allows the County or its’ Contractor to perform the necessary control measures, at landowners expense, to prevent the weed from spreading or going to seed. The County of Wetaskiwin has been delegated the authority by the Province of Alberta, under the Weed Control Act, for weed control, inspection and enforcement within its boundaries. The Agricultural Service Board of the County of Wetaskiwin performs these services on all properties in the County of Wetaskiwin. The Service Board hires Weed Inspectors from May until September to perform these duties, including issuing a Weed Report or Weed Notice, as required. Please visit www.county.wetaskiwin.ab.ca “Service-Agricultural –Weeds” for more information or contact Stephen Majek, Director of Agricultural Services at 780387-6137 or via email at smajek@county. wetaskiwin.ab.ca.
