Libraries and e-books

From the Pew Research Center Report, Libraries, patrons and e-books

Libraries Are for Early Literacy (Programs for children) Pages 5-7

ALLDATA® Auto Repair Page 8

12% of e-book readers have borrowed an ebook from a library. Those who use libraries are pretty heavy readers, but most are not aware they can borrow e-books. Last year the number of e-book check-outs at the Farmington Community Library was over 43,000. To see what e-books compatible with Kindles, Nooks, and other devices are available from Farmington Community Library, click the “Download audiobooks & e-books” button at http://www.farmlib.org/.

Last year the Farmington Friends of the Library donated more than $13,000 to help meet the increasing demand for e-books by enhancing this collection. We will ask for their continued support to buy more of the popular e-book titles. The move to e-books brings an increased need for the Library to show patrons how to use digital content and ebook readers. As we work to become more proficient, we welcome the help of others in the community willing to teach those in the Library who need assistance. If this volunteer effort appeals to you, or if you have questions please contact me at (248) 848-4301 or Tina.Theeke@farmlib.org. You can view the entire report at http://libraries.pewinternet.org/2012/06/22/ libraries-patrons-and-e-books/.
