INTRODUCING
David Colvin David Colvin is a new and emerging artist. His style of oil painting is best described as Representational Symbolism. His art, rather than being Abstract in style, is the conveyance of abstract ideas using symbols in a deconstructed way. From his background as a Mechanical Engineer, he has taken the concept of symbols on a blue print and developed that idea into using symbols as a method of describing the world around him. Interpreting his paintings always involves the viewer. His paintings have multiple meanings, word play and require the willingness to discuss complex ideas in basic terms. Colvin works in oil and sometimes adds drywall mud to create texture. One of his common techniques is to apply the paint to the canvas and then remove it with Q-tips. What remains is a varying degree of pigment left which creates texture and dimension. Part of the joy of David Colvin’s work is that ‘ah-ha’ moment when the viewer see’s what his painting is about. of 43 years, 7 months and 27 days. This painting depicts all of the lives that she touched. The center is her, surrounded by her family, enclosed within the flower. Each stone touches another representing the lives she helped as a mother, sister, daughter, cousin, niece, and as social worker who worked with pregnant teens. The stacked rocks, like that of a gravesite, stand in remembrance of her loving affective life.”
Commissioned Allegorical Portraitures Currently David Colvin is enjoying the process of creating paintings for a person specifically. After spending time with an interested client, Colvin will create a representational type of portrait that tells a story about who the subject is, what they stand for, what they honor. He does this through symbols. He calls the result an ‘allegorical portraiture’.
Installations & Sculptures Colvin is also interested in creating large Public Art features and installations. He has two such installations at Colfield Gallery in Collierville TN. A fountain based on the painting Fractal Rose and two ponds based on the painting Just Thinking. He is available to design and create personalized installation.
Jessica Hatfield started Colfield Gallery in June of 2012. The mission of Colfield Gallery is to present artists work in a comprehensive manner by means of a virtual web based gallery site. Colfield Gallery promotes artists through exhibition, consultation and marketing. It is our hope to bring new, emerging and established artists to new audiences and varying communities.
