On the day Austin proposed to Tessa back in August of 2015, she would have never guessed that their casual dinner date would turn into the engagement that it did. They were planning on grabbing a simple dinner before he headed off to drill for the weekend, so you can imagine the surprise when on a walk before their meal she came across candles in the shape of a heart, with flower petals surrounding the area and a gorgeous bouquet of flowers — the space Austin would use to propose. After a celebratory dinner at their date night restaurant with their closest family and friends, they got to planning quite the affair.
A PIECE OF FOREVER “My grandpa passed away in December of 2014 and my grandma in September of 2015. So making sure that they were still there with us was incredibly important to me. Their wedding picture from 1947 was placed on the front pew with my parents, I used my grandmother’s wedding band, and one of the gifts I had given my mom was a bracelet that had our wedding date, my parent’s wedding date, and my grandparent’s wedding date.”

getting ready with my bridesmaids, like most brides do. We drank champagne and danced around to early 2000s hip hop (specifically Ciara) thanks to my sweet bridesmaid, Samantha. Secretly, I spent some of the morning in tears because I’m so close to my parents and this is a huge, but happy, change. Austin also brought us pizza, which would be the last thing I would eat for the rest of the night. Bless him, he knows my heart!”

The memory table was put together to honor Brad’s father who passed away in 2014. He was such a big part of the groom’s life, and he had to be honored on their Big Day.

For some, it could be a turn-off, but Mikah says that it “lends an air of electricity to a shoot where a storm is rolling in, like this one.” She also notes that Oklahoma comes with a very diverse landscape and only the best of people. “Oklahomans are known for their friendliness and generosity...Many of them live on centennial farms like I do, and have a rich history going all the way back to our beginning of statehood! When Christopher proposed to Danielle on Christmas Eve, she thought it would be like any other holiday. They had been going to her parents, like always. Chris was acting a tad strange, but Danielle really thought nothing of it. At sunset, they went outside to get her “gift” (the family’s yearly tradition), but this year it was something else entirely: Chris on one knee in the middle of the yard asking her to be his wife.
THE DRESS “I finally got to wear my mother’s wedding dress made by my late grandmother. It was altered to fit me and extra special because all of the lace detail and beadwork were done by my grandmother. My grandmother was a very im-
portant part of my life and she only made one wedding dress in all her years sewing. I was very lucky to be able to have a part of her with me on my wedding day. I know she was in Heaven smiling.”
REDUCE, REUSE “My goal in planning was for everything we did to be a twist on tradition. I didn’t want people to come to our wedding and know exactly what was going to happen next. In place of real or silk flowers we used EcoFlowers made from recycled materials.”
SAVING THE DAY “When we started the first look, I could tell something was off with him. He felt upset. Eventually I learned that the www.okcweddingideas.com

getaway car that he had been working on had decided to not run right. When he finally got it over to the venue, my father and cousin managed to fix the car and totally saved the day. The minute we found out it was all fixed, I could see the frustration drain from my husband’s face, and finally the happiness of the day returned. That was one of the best gifts we could have been given.”
CAPTURE THE MOMENT “I would have to say that Whitney and her team at Red Stiletto Photography were absolutely amazing. She did a wonderful job getting my groom to smile, all while embracing the crazy that was happening the whole time. A TIP FOR THE SOON-TO-BE BRIDE “Do what you want. Your wedding day is supposed to be a reflection of you both, so even if it seems strange to others — do it! You are not doing this for anyone but your soon-to-be husband! Also, those who you choose to be in your bridal party can make or break your wedding. They are there to take over things when you can’t do it all. If they can’t or won’t, then get rid of them. You only need the people around who are positive, helpful and who love you.”

For instance, she completely killed the lush theme that the bride was hoping for on this dreamy day. The flowers she selected look like they could have been intricately chosen from the Hillside Manor’s garden, and the chairs carved from the woods beyond — the arch was even handcrafted from tree limbs from a tree on the property. When it came to effortlessly matching the incredible foliage on-site, she gets a 10/10.

After meeting at a pageant that Michael had been roped into being an escort for, the rest was history. Jordan and Michael got married in 2016 — the year that would continue what is now being referred to as their family’s “30 year tradition” — Jordan’s grandma was married in 1956, her parents in 1986, and now the two newlyweds. Their Big Day was a romantic vintage dream with lace accents and an ice-luge to match (yes, you read that right!) And any reception that includes an ice-luge is obviously going to be a great time…
START OF THE CRAZY “The first hour and a half were spent in a frantic run around! My mother and I made several stops at the store and a trip back home to retrieve something we’d forgotten, but luckily we had organization to our chaos and we weren’t late for anything. Those crazy events added to the laughter and jokes made in the bridal room while we were getting ready.”

CLUES TO EVER AFTER “What I thought was going to be a date to our favorite restaurant turned into a thrilling scavenger hunt! He left a clue in my car and around various spots in town that had a special meaning to us (the first place we met, where we had our first date and first kiss). The last location I was led to I was ‘kidnapped’ and blindfolded by our closest friends and driven to the location where he proposed, which would be in the same spot where we got married.”
A DIFFERENT FIRST LOOK “We really liked the idea of taking “first look” pictures, but because I am very traditional, I didn’t want him to see me in my dress until I walked down the aisle. So we opted for a “blind first look” and read our personal vows to each other while standing back to back, holding hands. It was nice to have intimate alone time before the wedding.”
FAMILY TRADITIONS “The uniqueness of our Big Day was the actual wedding date! We chose July 15th for a special and meaningful reason -- my maternal grandparents wedding anniversary date. They were the perfect example of a marriage that I pray daily that I will be blessed enough to obtain. My wedding day would have been their 60th wedding anniversary, but my grandma passed away 5 years ago from ALS.”
COOKIES, CAKE + A SONG, OH MY! “My big day fell on the same day as the birthday of a girl that I nanny and have become very close to. So Michael and I surprised her with a cookie cake
FOR THE FUTURE BRIDE “Try to get all of your decorating and planning completely done more than two days before your wedding! That way you can breathe and enjoy the final days before your wedding with your family/closest friends and not be overwhelmed making decorations and fretting about the itinerary the night before like me! Having done so would have helped save me from worrying so much about the minor details and would’ve given me more peace of mind.”

Just days after being upset that her boyfriend hadn’t proposed on Christmas as she expected, Che’ decided to be a good sport and shake the negative feelings off, so she set out for a Christmas lights adventure with Thomas. When they arrived at a lit-up bridge, he asked her: “What if I proposed to you on that bridge?” and she quickly replied, “That’s so cliche, heavens no!” and they kept on walking through... until 10-minutes later when he dropped to one-knee and asked her to be his wife. A Christmas wish come true!
A Sweet Ride
“I will never forget the very first time my husband let me drive his Mustang. It’s funny now, but we dated for over 2 ½ years and I literally begged him until I was in tears to let me drive that thing. Every time, he said no. One day, I threw the biggest fit, yes at 24, and told him, ‘I had better drive that car before the wedding, buddy.’ Oh, I drove it. But not until we were being seen off following the wedding. He had the car decorated and ready for me to pull out and head off to the honeymoon. It was super cute!”
In Perfect Time
“I did not have anything ‘special’ planned, however, God did. At the very last minute, the forecast changed from sunny to cloudy. Next thing we know, we are taking these absolutely beautiful pictures in the rain during the ceremony.”
A Word from the Wise
“The most valuable tip I could give future brides is this: Let go of the stress and the worry of having the perfect wedding. It’s difficult, I know. You want everything to go right. You want family to behave, the food served on time, music to cue when it’s supposed to, so on and so on. I get it. 84

The more you worry about the wedding while the wedding is happening, the more you miss out on during your own wedding. Embrace the mistakes, mess ups, last minute vendor cancellations. Turn it into a funny story or something to talk about with friends and family after the wedding. That’s what I did when my husband forgot ALL the boutonnieres and somehow the cake topper never made it on the cake! It was great!”
Getting the Right Shot
“Jake Maness! He was one vendor I completely trusted and had faith in that everything would turn out perfectly. When my husband and I met with him to go over the list of photos we would like captured, he had all these fantastic ideas. There are not very many words I can think of to express how awesome this guy was at our wedding. He went above and beyond. So much so that when Mother Nature decided to do that crazy thing it tends to do here in Oklahoma (like rain when it wasn’t in the forecast), he still shot our post-ceremony pictures! Oh, let me tell you, it was so much fun. I’m smiling just thinking about it. Need I remind you, my husband and I were still in our wedding attire. We were all getting rained on and laughing and making fun of each other. Sure enough, my absolute favorite picture was taken in the rain that night. I guarantee you, if we would have had any other photographer, those pictures would not have happened, and if they did, they wouldn’t have turned out the way these did. We are so very thankful! We love our pictures. We loved our experience with Jake as our photographer. He played a very vital role in making our wedding all that it turned out to be!”
