When Mallory and Cody met, they refused to call it a first date, instead choosing to simply title it a “first meeting.” They went for a casual cup of coffee, then decided they’d do dinner after and didn’t want to leave, so they went to a movie. Two days later, Cody invited Mallory to church, and their romance had officially begun. He proposed in an Old Time Western Photo session and when she said, “yes!” they planned everything quickly and were hitched six months later in a beautiful July ceremony. It was a day full of celebrating their love and their faith, plus a little bit of rustic charm.
A Faithful Foundation
“One thing we incorporated that we hadn’t originally thought of was having our guests highlight their favorite Bible verse in a Bible. At our rehearsal dinner, the night before our wedding, Cody’s mother laid out a Bible and asked the guests to highlight their 14

favorite verse. She asked if we would like to use it at our wedding ceremony. We definitely loved that idea. It is our first Bible given to us as husband and wife — we cherish the verses and loving messages that are written in the Bible by those we love.”

“For our photographer, we knew we would be using Jake Maness Photography. Cody and Jake met through church and became good friends. Jake takes amazing photos and is wonderful to work with. We also hired Jim Goldsby as our videographer. Jim was recommended to us by Jake and by another good friend. They worked very hard and truly wanted to capture our day.”

matters: your future marriage. If things aren’t going exactly as planned, it’s okay! At the end of the day, you get to marry your best friend. You won’t even be thinking about what the decorations looked like or if the clasp on your dress was broken (yes, that happened!). Secondly, have FUN! Take in your day and hold on to every memory, every conversation and enjoy the process. Lastly, have someone in the room with you that is there just for emotional support before you walk down the aisle. Before I walked down the aisle, a friend prayed with me and simply talked to me when I started getting nervous. I will be forever grateful for her love and kindness.”
Rustic Elegance
“For our wedding, we were going for a rustic, yet elegant, look. The venue
was built to look like a barn, with a pond directly behind the barn. The trees outside the barn were decorated with white lights. The inside of the barn had a staircase leading down from the bridal suite, and we decided on white tablecloths for the tables with burlap and lace table runners. My family made the flower arrangements to match our wedding colors, which were deep purple with hints of green. We also decorated mason jars with burlap, lace and white flowers. Each mason jar held a tea light candle inside for more light. We also framed engagement pictures to place on each table. Cody’s parents cut cedar disks to place the centerpieces on. The cedar disks really enhanced the rustic look and brought the centerpieces together perfectly. Since our decorations were all made by family, they were really special to us and to our wedding.” www.okcweddingideas.com

Tigard and Tori first met when she was in middle school, and Tori laughs as she describes herself as the girl with the ugly bowl cut. Tigard was actually interested in Tori’s sister, and through the years, even as Tori was slowly falling in love with him, she still thought that he wasn’t interested in her. It wasn’t until her 21st birthday that they started officially dating. Their relationship is a strong, best friend type of love. They attend church together and believe that God is a
huge part of having a strong marriage. One thing that Tori loves about Tigard is that she can rely on him to provide for her both spiritually and emotionally.
Autumn Wedding Two years after they started dating, they were engaged, and later that year in November they planned a magical fallthemed wedding at the Skirvin Hotel. They chose crimson and cream as their color palate and accented with navy tuxes to match the groom’s blue eyes. www.okcweddingideas.com

Tori has always loved fall colors, and she is very artistic. She chose her flowers to be whimsical and delicate, but also strong enough to hold up to the colder weather. Tigard and Tori’s marriage reflects that choice; to be both beautiful and hearty, able to withstand all of the pressures that life will throw at them in the years to come. They asked their pastor and family to pray over them during the ceremony, asking God to help them start off on the right foot.
The Magical Mullet Moment Tigard had a mullet hairstyle that Tori kept asking him to change before the ceremony, but finally resigned herself that it would never happen, saying “Fine, I love you! I don’t care!” at their rehearsal dinner. Afterwards, they decided not to see each other until ceremony, instead choosing to hold hands around a corner and pray together. But when Tori walked down the aisle, she saw that Tigard had gone out and gotten himself an amazing haircut the morning of the wedding. It was both a humorous and touching moment that she will always remember about their wedding day. 26

a beautiful ceremony at the Oklahoma City Capitol, Syndia and Marques honored their partnerhood by pledging to love each other for the rest of their lives. It was an incredibly special moment, especially because they were able to include their 1-year old daughter in the celebration.
He Had Some Nerve! Marques and Syndia met through mutual friends and gradually they both became part of this tightly knit friend group. It started out as a friendship, but pretty soon, it was something much more. Their story includes quite a few funny moments, including how their engagement went down! Marques decided to propose while on vacation with Syndia and some friends in the Dominican Republic. After having an upset stomach all day, everyone assumed he’s gotten food poisoning. It wasn’t until after he popped the question and started feeling better that he realized he had been queasy because he was so worked up about asking Syndia to marry him! 46

She even carried a photo of her grandmother in the bridal bouquet that her mom arranged as a special way to honor her memory and keep her close. Syndia recalls her favorite memory of their wedding day being on the dance floor for the first dance. She and Marques were able to have a special moment with their one-year-old daughter, all dancing together to celebrate their new marriage. When Kayla and Zekke met through Greek life in college, they never thought of dating — but after hitting it off as best friends, everything changed. Two years later, when she least expected it, Zekke had their puppy wear a sign that read, “Will you marry my dad?” and the rest was history! Surrounded by friends that took snapshots of the big night, Kayla excitedly agreed to be his wife and planned a “classy-vintage” Big Day filled to the brim with little moments that the two will remember for years to come…

THE FIRST LOOK “I did a first look with my step-dad. My mom took him to an area away from everyone else and gave him an embroidered hankie that I had gotten him. The message explained how thankful I was to have him in my life.”
MEANING MATTERS “His grandma is very important to him… About a year ago, she pulled me aside and told me the story about a beautiful music box that her late husband had given her as an anniversary gift. The day she told me was the day after their anniversary. She cried and told me that this box was her most valued possession,

but that no one would even know if it went missing. She said she had been waiting a long time to give it to someone who she thought would take care of it, and she knew I would. That was one of the first times I saw my husband cry. She means the world to him. So, of course, we had to do something special for her during the wedding. As a secret, we used the music box to keep our rings. Brittany got beautiful pictures of it and I’m having a few blown up to surprise her with. The box still sits on my dresser and I put my ring in it every night.”
GET GREEK WITH IT “Getting to dance with all of the groomsmen who are like family to me, or being serenaded by Zekke’s fraternity who voted for me as their sweetheart last year was so fun! All of the guys were a blast. I even got to take a round of
shots with my best guy friends from high school and do my sorority chant with my girls. Having Brittany jump in on that was really special to me!”
STILL HER LITTLE GIRL “During my bridal session with Brittany [From Britt’s Eye View], I took a few pictures with a sign that said, “Still your little girl.” I never showed those pictures to my mom. I made a photo book on Shutterfly that had a picture of us from when I was a baby (it’s both of our favorites) and all of my bridal portraits inside. It also had a written note throughout that included sayings we have said my entire life such as, ‘I’ll love you forever, I’ll like you for always, as long as I’m living your baby I’ll be’ and ‘love you more.’ On the last page there were a few baby pictures of me, that first saying and the pictures I took with Brittany. It was just like any other night — Catie was out with her coworkers when they decided to pop into a restaurant. After her colleagues made it clear that she was the only single one in the group, she bravely left her phone number for the cute waiter, and that’s when their happily ever after first began. Catie and Derek were married just eight months after their engagement, and had quite the incredible Big Day to show for their whirlwind romance.
BECOMING A FAMILY
“My husband has a son, so we added Peyton to my part of the vows. Instead of saying ‘I will honor and cherish you,’ (or something like that…it’s a big blur) I said, ‘I will honor and cherish you and Peyton.’ It was super special, and I had made it through the entire ceremony without crying until that point!’
LET’S DANCE
“We also took ballroom dance lessons before the wedding, and had our first dance choreographed to “Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran. It was almost a surprise until my bridesmaids saw our high school show choir director in the crowd. They knew something was up then!”
FAMILY FIRST
“We wanted to incorporate [Peyton] in the wedding as well, so instead of doing the unity candles, we did a sand ceremony. We had each of our moms pour in white sand when they were walking in (this took place of lighting the candles). Then Derek, Peyton and I had our own colored sand. It was super special to have all 3 of us be a part of it and have Peyton know that he’s a part of it too.” 64

“Don’t be afraid to ask others for help in planning the wedding! I am a little bit of a control freak, so I wanted to do everything myself. I also felt bad asking my bridesmaids to do anything, because they were already setting a day aside to stand by my side. My mom and I ended up doing all of the planning ourselves. I would make a list of things I needed from the store, my mom would go buy it and we ended up decorating the chapel ourselves (our wedding planner did help us, but none of the bridal party did because I never asked.) All that to say, even though I never showed I was stressed, I was stressed. Don’t do that to yourself! Ask your bridesmaids for help in anything! High School Sweethearts Forever
When Blake Barrier walked into his 6th hour computer class as an 8th grader, he probably didn’t realize that he would be meeting his future wife. Blake and Cassidy started dating when she was a freshman in high school. 5 ½ years later they tied the knot in a gorgeous ceremony with family and friends in attendance to support them on their big day. www.okcweddingideas.com

The Grand Finale Blake went all out to ask Cassidy to marry him in a breathtaking moment at the Grand Canyon when they were in Arizona visiting his family. They planned a classic vintage themed wedding for August 27th, 2016. She didn’t try to stick with a strict color palette, but held to the theme with gold bridesmaid dresses and pops of deep purple, red, and succulent green.
Something Blue Cassidy’s mom made her cry when she brought out “something blue,” a heart made from scraps of plaid shirts that be76

longed to her brother who passed away. She attached it under her dress and wore it in his memory, a touching way to honor her only sibling. They also set up a memorial table to honor him. Blake’s family loves Cassidy, and she is especially close with his mom and sister. It means so much to her to gain siblings in his brother and sister. They love that the two families are so close and can spend a lot of time together. Neither of them are worried about having a problem with their in-laws!
A Reception to Remember
After the ceremony, Blake and Cassidy had a special moment when the reality
of their marriage made the world around them seem to disappear, and they took a moment to look into each other’s eyes and savor those first few moments as husband and wife. High school sweethearts who got to grow up from first love into a long lasting commitment to each other for the rest of their lives. It is not often that you see two people hold on to each other through the years like that. The cake, flowers and catering were all done by Uptown Grocery. And the reception was a blast with everyone up and dancing.
