fascinating time in fashion and music was the notoriously named “roaring 20s and 30s”. A distinctive cultural shift in style and rights for women echoed from the United States to other hotspots all over the world. The era was major influences on New York, Paris, Chicago, Berlin and London fashionistas, changing high society and boutique mannequins everywhere. The media landscape transformed forever. With large stadiums and cinemas were built, perfectly formed movie stars and sports heroes graced glossy magazine covers. Automobiles, telephones and make-up powered a lifestyle revolution of dance clubs and cultural fusion. Patricia, owner of Pat’s hats, was significantly influenced by this era and it shows. She always liked the headwear especially but always thought them expensive. When a friend’s hat shop was going out of business, she leaped at the chance to step in, taking over the space and saving the merchandise. Starting in 2001, she converted her garage into a boutique. The ability to hire hats and other quality accessories at a fraction of the cost seized a gap in the market. The word spread and the customers have been rolling in ever since. Luckily, looking good will never go out of fashion. When I asked what the most popular type of hat she is requested for, she replies “anything big! The larger the hat the more people like it”. Hats are rented out for all types of occasions, events and celebrations. From weddings to debutant balls. The popularity of the fascinator reached new heights when HRH Queen Elizabeth declared that lady’s heads should be covered at Royal Ascot and HRH Kate Middleton wore a Vivien Sheriff piece on her much publicised first official engagement with Prince William. One royal’s fascinator, worn at their wedding, famously had its own facebook page. “ I deal with Vivien Sheriff, the people who Kate Middleton deals with. I was dealing with them before she put them on the map “, Pat proudly states. You really can’t put a price on class. For high quality items, her prices are extremely reasonable. The most expensive designer hat’s for instance, being only £50. There is a wide variety of stylish and high quality accessories for hire, including handbags, tiaras, jewellery and presents for bridesmaids. All occasions covered in style.
