CAERHAYS ESTATE
E
nsconced in a sheltered valley overlooking the sea and Porthluney Cove on the south Cornish coast, the Caerhays Estate is a hidden jewel.
“With a marquee on the cutting or the castle lawn both with breathtaking views out to sea and with the castle as a backdrop you can welcome up to 250 guests,” says Rimmington.
The estate of Caerhays extends to nearly 3,000 acres and includes Caerhays Castle and its grounds with two lodges, the village of Caerhays and several farms.
The natural beauty, architectural surprises, the inescapable sense of history and the range of activities and facilities that the estate has to offer all set the scene for a wonderful day of discovery.
Easily accessible and warmly welcoming, Caerhays Estate has a number of self catering 5-star holiday cottages to let both in the gardens and in the nearby villages of Caerhays, East and West Portholland.
The Old Coastguards lookout – recommended only between April and September – inspires romance and is an unspoiled venue on the headland overlooking Veryan Bay with inspiring views out to sea and along the coast. “On the estate there are two venues licensed for weddings, two stunning places for a reception and luxury accommodation all in one magnificent, romantic location,” explains Lucinda Rimmington, marketing manager at Caerhays. “Indeed, you can hold a wedding reception in the grounds of the castle.” Set in the heart of the famous Caerhays woodland garden, the lake and sweeping fields down to the sea do provide a fairy-tale location.
“The house is yours for the occasion. We can cater for small intimate parties in the dining room, or the terrace to the side of the house can be covered by a marquee giving a seating area for up to 60. A larger marquee can be erected on the main lawn for up to 150 guests seated,” says Rimmington. According to her, one of the challenges on hand for the management is to have more weddings on the estate. “We believe Caerhays is the perfect place to hold your wedding and once people come here they see that. The place is truly special because it has so many options on the Estate.”
