CONNECTIONS at Weddington Church

At Weddington Church, we value discipleship and the importance of relationships and authentic community. We believe that Christian discipleship happens best when we are connected with others through small group opportunities where we can encourage, care and support one another, and be intentional as we seek to grow in life and faith. We also recognize that everyone has their own starting point and pace, and that there are different seasons in life and faith. For that reason, you will find a variety of groups and opportunities to get involved. This Adult Ministry Guide is designed to help you learn more about the opportunities available to grow in faith and find ways to connect with others through friendship, fellowship, special events, and serving opportunities. Disciple II: Into the Word, Into the World Time: Wednesday, 6:30-8:00 p.m. Location: Sanctuary Building - Room 19 Leader: David Myers

DISCIPLE BIBLE STUDY Disciple I: Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study Time: Tuesday Evening, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Location: Hemby House - Room 8 Leader: Heather Brown Disciple I is an amazing journey through the entire Bible, emphasizing the wholeness of the Bible as a revelation of God. The study draws upon the work of scholars, the personal Bible reading and study of the participants, and dynamic group discussions that aid participants in deeper Biblical understanding and transformational spiritual growth. Disciple I meets for 34 weeks and involves approximately 30 minutes of daily homework. It’s an experience that will draw you closer to God and others as you journey together. Disciple I: Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study Time: Wednesday Morning, 9:30-11:30 a.m. Location: Hemby House - Room 1 Leaders: Meg Flouhouse & Stephanie Lester Disciple I is an amazing journey through the entire Bible, emphasizing the wholeness of the Bible as a revelation of God.

8

Disciple II is a study of Genesis, Exodus, Luke, Acts, and the start of the Christian church. The study emphasizes the rhythm of coming to God and going for God; of being in God’s Word and being in the world individually and corporately. This in-depth Bible study shows how God made His presence known to His chosen people and how, in His perfect time, He made His presence known to the world. Participants will see that the events of the Bible are part of the history of the Middle-East and the world, and learn alongside leader, David Myers, a passionate historian and Bible teacher. Disciple II meets for 32 weeks and involves approximately 30 minutes of daily homework. Disciple III: Remember Who You Are Time: Wednesday, 6:30-8:00 p.m. Location: Sanctuary Building - Room 209 Leader: Dick Davidson Disciple III is a study that concentrates on the Old Testament prophets and the letters of Paul, and how they are continually calling hearers and readers back to their God and to a sense of who they are as a people “set apart.” This is a great opportunity if you are looking for an in-depth study of Paul. Participants will benefit from seasoned leader and Pauline scholar, Dick Davidson. This study group meets for 32 weeks and involves approximately one hour of homework each week. Disciple IV: Under the Tree of Life Time: Wednesday, 6:30-8:00 p.m. Location: Sanctuary Building - Room 209 Leaders: Ashley Goodner & Sharon McFadden Disciple IV concentrates on the books of I Chronicles, II Chronicles, Ruth, Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther, Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs, Lamentations, Daniel, John, James, I John, II John, III John, Jude, and Revelation. The study emphasizes the Psalms as Israel’s hymnbook and prayer book, leading naturally to a focus on worship. Present through the course is the sense of living toward completion: toward the climax of the message and the promise, as we see extravagantly pictured in the book of Revelation. Disciple IV is an experience that will continue to draw you closer to God and others as you journey together.

BIBLE STUDY God of Covenant by Jen Wilkin Time: Monday, 9:00-11:00 a.m. Begins: September 9 Location: Padfield Residence – Marvin Leader: Louise Padfield Walk through the stories of the fathers of our faith Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph as we discover how God worked everything together for His glory and the good of His people. Walk verse by verse through Genesis 12-50, tracing the themes of covenant, resurrection, redemption, and hope. Books will be available on the first day of class. From Garden to Glory by Courtney Doctor Time: Wednesday, 9:30-Noon Begins: September 11 Location: Weddington Fellowship Hall Leader: Marty Cook Have you ever wondered what Exodus has to do with Ephesians? Wanted to study your Bible but didn’t know where to begin? Thought of the Bible as nothing more than a set of rules to be followed? If so, this study was written for you! The Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, is a beautiful, epic, and cohesive story. It is the story of how our eternal God is on a grand mission to redeem and restore his rebellious and wayward children. But it is not a story meant to merely inform us. The story itself is meant to transform us. Romans Time: Begins: Location: Leader:

Wednesday, 6:30 - 7:45 p.m. September 18 Family Life Center (Gym) Rev. Dr. Terry Moore

Paul’s letter to the church in Rome is often considered to be his most theologically important writing. NT Wright calls it Paul’s “masterpiece.” How are we made right with God? Paul argues, “Justification by Faith.” This letter had amazing impact on John Wesley, St. Augustine, Martin Luther, Karl Barth, and thus the church. Yale Divinity School scholars caution us that, “Those who have gone before you have rarely emerged from their own journeys through Romans unchanged.” We invite you to join Dr. Moore on this life and faith changing journey through Romans.

Rachel & Leah: What Two Sisters Teach Us About Combating Comparison by Nicki Koziarz Time: Thursday, 7:00-9:00 p.m. Begins: September 5 Location: McFadden Residence Leader: Sharon McFadden How many times have you felt like you couldn’t measure up no matter how hard you tried? We’ve all been there. Uncover truths you need to arm yourself when combating comparison by studying the biblical account of Rachel & Leah. Learn to be content without becoming complacent, and discover Godly wisdom to quiet the questions in your head. Develop greater awareness of your insecurities, and learn to stop the lies in their tracks. Because the truth will set you free, and free women don’t have to measure up to anyone. Fearless: Imagine Your Life Without Fear by Max Lucado Time: Friday, 9:30-11:00 a.m. Begins: September 6 Location: Hemby House Leader: Gabrielle Andrews Each sunrise seems to bring fresh reasons for fear. Imagine your life wholly untouched by angst. What if faith, not fear, was your default reaction to threats? Come journey through this study as we embrace life without fear.

To register, please visit www.weddingtonchurch.org or call 704-846-1032.

Meredith Hinton for a night of discovering; a night of uncovering and exploring together what it means for us to be authentic. Who are we? Who are you? And who is Christ that our lives might be hidden within His? Please bring a dish to share and invite a friend to join you. To attend, please register online at www.weddingtonchurch.org/women. Childcare is available. The registration deadline is September 16.
