ADULT MINISTRY
TABLE OF CONTENTS
at Weddington Church
At Weddington Church, we value discipleship and the importance of relationships and authentic community. We believe that Christian discipleship happens best when we are connected with others through small group opportunities where we can encourage, care and support one another, and be intentional as we seek to grow in life and faith. We also recognize that everyone has their own starting point and pace, and that there are different seasons in life and faith. For that reason, you will find a variety of groups and opportunities to get involved. This Adult Ministry Guide is designed to help you learn more about the opportunities available to grow in faith and find ways to connect with others through friendship, fellowship, special events, and serving opportunities. BIBLE STUDY WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY NEW! First Peter: A Living Hope in Christ by Jen Wilkin WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY/LIFE GROUP Begins March 9 Time: Monday, 9:30 a.m. Location: Padfield Residence Leader: Louise Padfield Peter, a man of faith and flaws and eyewitness to the life of Christ, challenges us to look beyond our current circumstances to our future inheritance. Breathing Room for Women by Sandra Stanley
Trustworthy: Overcoming Our Greatest Struggles to Trust God by Lysa TerKeurst WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY/LIFE GROUP Time: Thursday, 7:00 p.m. Location: McFadden Residence Leader: Sharon McFadden
When hard times come and it seems God is deviating from the plan we assume our life should follow, we are more likely to want to tame God, not trust Him. It is then that we begin to press into our ways and our own timing. No human can carry the weight of being their own god, but so many of us try. Join us as we journey through 1 & 2 Kings and explore the deeply applicable Scriptures that will teach us how to truly trust God.
We Saved You A Seat: Finding and Keeping Lasting Friendships by Lisa-Jo Baker
WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY/LIFE GROUP Time: Tuesday, 7:30 p.m. Location: Assell Residence Leader: Kristen Assell
WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY/LIFE GROUP Time: Thursday, 7:00 p.m. Location: Sanctuary Building - Room 209 Leader: Lauren Litaker
Do you ever feel like you don’t enjoy anything because you’re trying to do everything? You just need a little bit of breathing room. With a simple invitation, God offers a way to trade your overwhelming pace for one that will finally bring you peace. This study will invite us to consider how we find breathing room.
In today’s busy world, many of us are wired to appear “fine,” warding off authenticity and shielding ourselves from judgment. We yearn for authentic relationships and the opportunity to be “real” with people we trust – but comparison, envy, and insecurities often stop us from pulling out a chair at the table. Authentic relationships are important and give women a place to be accepted, encouraged, and inspired to grow and gain an understanding of our true identity. This new 7-session women’s Bible Study group will explore how our relationship with Jesus is the ultimate model for authentic friendships.
God of Covenant by Jen Wilkin
WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY Childcare available by reservation Time: Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. Location: Weddington Fellowship Hall Leader: Marty Cook Our God is a Covenant Maker and Covenant Keeper. We can see this clearly in the stories of the fathers of our faith – Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph. Through their stories, we discover how God is working everything together for His glory and for the good of His people. We witness God fulfill every promise and we see that He is the One for whom nothing is too hard. We learn to see Jesus in the stories of His people even in the Old Testament. We discover how the God of Covenant is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

How Happiness Happens by Max Lucado WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY/LIFE GROUP Childcare is available by reservation Time: Friday, 9:30 a.m. Location: Hemby House Leader: Gabrielle Andrews
Author Max Lucado says he has found the hidden secret to lasting joy – giving that joy away to others. It is better to forgive than to hold a grudge, better to build up than to tear down, better to include than to exclude, better to seek to understand than to disregard, better to love than to hate. Lucado says many people live as if acquiring more will bring them more joy and believes this strategy is not working. He recommends a very different recipe for happiness: “God’s solution for the ills of society is a quorum of unselfish, life-giving, God-loving folks who flow through neighborhoods and businesses like cleansing agents, bringing in the good, flushing out the bad. They hail from all corners of the globe, reflect all hues of skin. Liberal, conservative, rural, metropolitan, young, old. Yet they are bound together by this amazing discovery: happiness is found by giving it away.” Join us as we look to God’s Word and consider how we can experience true and lasting happiness.

Participants will see that the events of the Bible are part of the history of the Middle-East and the world, and learn alongside leader David Myers, a passionate historian and Bible teacher.

Currently, we are joining with the Quilts of Valor Foundation to award veterans of the US Armed Forces with comforting, healing Quilts of Valor, to say, “Thank you for your service, sacrifice, and valor in serving our nation.” If you are a veteran and would like to be recognized with a Quilt of Valor, please email the following to info@weddingtonchurch.org: Name, Email or Phone Number (best way of contact), your branch of the US Armed Forces (Army, Marine, Navy, Air Force, or Coast Guard), and dates of service. CHRISTIAN VALUES IN THE WORKPLACE Time: Sunday, 4:00-5:30 p.m. (2x a month) Location: Hemby House Leader: Amy Hasty Group Focus: Redeeming Work: Discovering Why Your Work Matters For many of us, work is where we spend one-third (or more) of our lives. It’s what we talk about at parties. It’s how we introduce ourselves. It’s often where our social circles and networks originate. In fact, for a lot of us, it’s the reason we live where we live. Work dictates much of the circumstances and rhythms of our lives. So why does Monday morning feel so far from Sunday morning? For many Christians, there is a significant gap between work and faith. The two simply feel unrelated. This group is meant to help bridge that gap. Join us as we journey together to consider the interrelatedness of faith and work. For more information on schedule and the group, contact patsy.sorrell@weddingtonchurch.com.
