At Cave Quest VBS, kids will explore the rock-solid foundation of Jesus’ love. Cave Quest VBS is filled with incredible Bible-learning experiences kids see, hear, touch and even taste! Children start their days with a time of praise and worship with our Sing & Play Rock Team, then head out and travel with their Crew to explore different stations to learn to “Follow Jesus—The Light of the World!” More than 450 kids participate in this week and about 125 volunteers serve as the hands and feet of Jesus! Our mission focus is Samaritan’s Feet, which is a non-profit organization that shares hope with children in the U.S. and around the world by washing their feet, giving them a new pair of shoes, and sharing the message of Hope and Love that Jesus Christ gives to us. Join us by bringing in a new pair of tennis shoes and socks to VBS and let’s support this very worthy and important ministry. Bins will be placed at the entrance of the Family Life Center and at the playground entrance of the main sanctuary building. For more information, please visit www.samaritansfeet.org. Day 1: Day 2: Day 3: Day 4: Day 5:
Jesus gives us hope. Prophets foretell the light of the world. (John 1:1-34; Isaiah 9:2) Jesus gives us courage. Jesus and Peter walk on water. (Matthew 14:22-36) Jesus gives us direction. Jesus sheds light on how to live. (Matthew 5:7) Jesus gives us love. Jesus died and comes back to life. (Luke 23:1-24:12) Jesus gives us his power. Jesus ascends and empowers his followers. (Acts 1:1-11)

Monthly Reflections . Reverend Dr. Terry L. Moore Jesus Lives Here Mark 10:13-16 (NRSV)
13 People were bringing little children to him in order that he might touch them; and the disciples spoke sternly to them. 14 But when Jesus saw this, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the little children come to me; do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs. 15 Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will never enter it.” 16 And he took them up in his arms, laid his hands on them, and blessed them. Children everywhere! The end of school bash at the Monroe Campus was awesome. Children walked through the doors to the loving embrace of volunteers. The smiles on their faces testified to the relationships that had been established over the year as they worked on homework together. Our youth volunteers were clearly stars. The children hope to be like them some day. These precious children stood before their parents and volunteers singing of their love for Jesus. Children sat on Jesus’ lap in Monroe and were blessed. The choir loft was full of four year old’s who were graduating from our preschool program. They sang their songs, received their diplomas, and then gave a hug to the teachers who had loved them throughout the school year. Others lined the chancel of our Bonds Grove campus. Their smiles were amazing as they were declared, “graduates.” With tears in their eyes, parents of graduates shared how much our teachers and staff mean to them and to their children. One parent who was sharing about our preschool to a new neighbor said, “Jesus lives there.” Children sat on Jesus’ lap at Weddington Christian Preschool and were blessed. Page 2
The eighth grade class at Weddington Christian Academy sat before their families and friends. A milestone had been reached. They were ready for high school. They are youth now. Young people maturing in their faith in Jesus Christ and becoming the people God created them to be. Kindergartners and 5th graders all shared their praise for God as they transitioned to their new grade levels. They had been taught academically and spiritually, and they had been loved. Children sat on Jesus’ lap at Weddington Christian Academy and were blessed. Every Sunday morning, the children’s wing is packed with children. Children God knows by name and dearly loves. Teachers share about this Jesus who loves them. Children sit on the lap of Jesus and are blessed. Vacation Bible School is coming soon. Over 400 children will be here. They will laugh, they will play, they will learn more about Jesus, and they will worship. Children will sit on the lap of Jesus and be blessed. What a blessing we have as a church. God places these young lives in our care. As the body of Christ, we invite children into the arms of Jesus Christ to be blessed once again. What a beautiful truth, “Jesus lives here.” Children are loved and blessed here. In ministry together, Rev. Dr. Terry Moore Senior Pastor

Thank You to our Monroe Campus Volunteers Thank you to Peyton Brown and Will Brown for their dedication to the Homework Help ministry. The Homework Help ministry began at the Monroe Campus on October 13, 2015 and wrapped up for the year on May 19, 2016. Through this ministry many children’s lives were touched and their grades improved due to the dedication of numerous volunteers. Two of our most dedicated volunteers, Peyton and Will, are graduating from high school. We extend heartfelt gratitude to these two youth for their service to the Homework Help ministry. They gave countless hours Peyton and Will Brown out of their busy lives, often coming to the Monroe Campus straight from school. The ministry would not have been as much of a success without this young man and woman and their friends. We pray God’s blessing upon each of them as they continue to serve God in their lives as college students. If you would like to volunteer with the Homework Help ministry during the 2016-2017 school year, please contact Deedie Baldwin at deediebaldwin@yahoo.com.
Monroe Campus Cookout On Saturday, May 21, members of Weddington UMC joined together with the community of the Monroe Campus to celebrate the Homework Help and English as a Second Language ministries. Since the Homework Help ministry began in October, we have grown from 5 students to approximately 30 students. English as a Second Language (ESL) started with one course in February and is now at the point that we will offer two course levels in the fall. At the celebration we recognized the people who have participated in both ministries as well as the volunteers. The children from Homework Help sang three songs including “Jesus Loves Me” and “Jesus Love the Little Children.” Thank you to the UMM for cooking for the event and to all the volunteers who give of their time and talents to share the love of Christ with the community of the Monroe Campus.

GriefShare Closing Session The GriefShare participants had a very moving closing session recently. After their dinner and inspiring program, each person was encouraged to write a note on a card to their loved one who had died. The card was to express any thoughts or prayers one wanted to share. Each card was then tied to a balloon when completed. We went outside and the balloons in unison were released. Seeing all the balloons together was a reminder of how the GriefShare participants are one in life experience and also one in support of each other. GriefShare is an amazing ministry offering much love and care. GriefShare is available this summer for anyone who does not want to walk the grief journey alone. Please contact Rev. Ed Briggs at the church office, 704-846-1032 or ed.briggs@weddingtonchurch.org to find out more about GriefShare.

News and Announcements Stephen Ministry Summer is known as a time to take a break for at least a week of vacation from our
busy lives. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if our life’s challenges would leave us for a week or two? Life does not happen that way. Our hurts continue, but there is hope. Hope is found in Jesus and our Stephen ministry. Our Stephen ministers are the hands and feet of Jesus offering weekly support to their care receiver. They go through fifty hours of training to be best prepared as distinctively Christian caregivers. A Stephen minister is not a counselor but someone who listens well and can suggest various resources for support. They are trustworthy and keep what is shared confidential. If you are interested in having a Stephen minister, please contact Beverly Watkins, our referral’s coordinator, at 704-562-5040 or Rev. Ed Briggs at 704-846-1032.

Pastoral Care GriefShare Testimony “I lost my father suddenly in November of 2014. Four short months later, as I was trying to process my grief, my life took another tragic turn when I lost my husband suddenly and unexpectedly. I was instantly swallowed up in the deep fog of grief. I never imagined being a widow at the age of 51. The pressure to be strong for my teenage daughters, my grieving mother and in-laws, as well as extended family seemed insurmountable. The Griefshare program became a lifeline for me. To have the love, support and understanding of the Griefshare facilitators provided an incredible sense of comfort. I knew that I was not alone and I had found others that shared a lot of the same feelings, fears and mixed emotions. Through this program, I developed a deeper gratitude for my relationship with God, for the love of my family and for the kindness of an amazing community. The Griefshare program offers a wealth of information for individuals who find themselves faced with navigation through the grieving process. Participation has allowed me to move forward and to feel moments of joy even in the most difficult year of my life.”

We will connect with our Father’s Spirit. So our hearts can be open to Him and what He wants us to hear and do in our lives for His glory. That way we can leave our ‘boats’ and surrender to Him in every way possible. My prayer is that we all leave this retreat changed and never the same…” -Kelly Duck, Retreat Co-Chair
