Celebration Sunday - November 11 Celebrating the difference God has made in our lives and the difference we can make in the lives of others on God’s behalf. Weddington United Methodist Church is vitally active in ministry on our campuses, in our community, and around the world. There are examples of faithful members serving by leading, teaching, praying, helping, and expressing mercy through ministries serving all ages and circumstances. Whether with children or adults, here on one of our campuses or across the ocean, there is a place for you to serve others by using the spiritual gifts God has given you. Our Biblical understanding of Christian financial stewardship expresses giving as a sign of gratitude and faithfulness to God and to whom we have been called to be. Every financial gift given to Weddington Church supports our many ministries and missions. We are thankful for your support and are committed to the faithful stewardship of your generosity.
“Everything comes from You; all we’re doing is giving back what we’ve been given from your generous hand.” 1 CHRONICLES 29:14
November 11, 2018 has been set aside as Celebration Sunday. This month you will receive a packet of information celebrating the many ministries and missions of Weddington United Methodist Church. Please take the opportunity to explore the stories that are shared and to prayerfully consider how you will respond through your offerings of service and financial support during the coming year. If you have any questions about the ministries and missions of Weddington UMC or financial stewardship, please don’t hesitate to contact JoAnn Horstman, Executive Director of Operations, at 704-846-1032 or joann.horstman@weddingtonchurch.org.

Monthly Reflections - Rev. Dr. Terry Moore I Thank God for You I thank my God every time I remember you. (Philippians 1:3 NRSV) 3
Thanksgiving is coming soon. We will travel to be with family and friends. We will share a meal together. We will tell stories. We will laugh. This year will be different for our family. My father will not be at the table. Thanksgiving will be different for many in our church family this year. It will be a time of sharing memories. It will be a reminder that life is precious and to invest in precious relationships. Over the past several months, I had a lot of special time with my father. My younger brother and I took him to most of his doctor appointments at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem. We would go to breakfast, lunch, or dinner together on these visits. We would tell stories. We would laugh. We journeyed through this stage of his life together. We actually had fun in the waiting rooms. We created memories. I am so grateful for the memories. His birthday was just a couple of days before he died. Nancy and I took chicken wings for the family to enjoy. Dad loved wings. He ate the wings, including the last one on the table. We told stories, we laughed. We created memories. Thanksgiving is about relationships. It is not about the material things we own or the shopping being planned. It is about taking time to give thanks to God for what is important in our lives; for who is important in our lives. Relationships. Our relationship with God and our relationship with one another. Page 2
On Thanksgiving, take a moment and reflect on your blessings. The blessings of relationships. Who are the people God has placed in your lives that you give thanks for? Have we thanked God for them? Have we told them we are grateful to God for them? Paul told his brothers and sisters at the church at Philippi, “I thank my God every time I remember you. What a statement! On Thanksgiving, make that statement to the people you love. Tell you family. Tell your friends. And above all, give thanks to God for loving you and for the special people God has placed in your lives. Weddington, I thank my God every time I remember you! In ministry together, Terry Rev. Dr. Terry Moore Senior Pastor

Adult Ministries Adult Discipleship Ministry . Patsy Sorrell Life Group News Advent Study Faithful: Christmas Through the Eyes of Joseph Time: Wednesdays, 6:30-8:00 p.m. Date: November 28 - December 19 Location: Multi-Purpose Room (in the Family Life Center) Leader: Andrew Vollenweider From his beginnings as a humble carpenter to his important role as the earthly father of Jesus Christ, Joseph's place in the nativity story is sometimes overlooked but contains valuable lessons for all of us. Through this study, Adam Hamilton helps us to examine Christmas through the eyes of Joseph. Absent from much of the biblical narrative, Joseph never spoke a word, but his courageous actions were crucial to the birth of Christ and God's salvation plan for humanity. Through this study we will come to understand how Joseph's story is much like our own. In life, we encounter circumstances that we would never have chosen for ourselves. At times it can be tempting just to walk away. Joseph provides us a great example of humbly obeying God even when we don't understand and faithfully moving forward in the strength that God provides. Exchange your doubt for courage this Advent and Christmas season. Learn to accept and glorify God's will even when circumstances make it difficult to do so.
