Monthly Reflections - Rev. Dr. Terry Moore Thank You Dear God, It is Thanksgiving and I want to thank you for everything. I thank you for loving me and showing it to me every day. I cannot find the words to say thank you for loving me enough to give your life for me.
John 15:13 (NRSV) 13 No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
Matthew 28:20 (NRSV) “And remember, I am with you always.”
Thank you for the blessings of family, of shelter, of food on the table, of clothing. Thank you for the gift of friends and friendship. Thank you for the gift of the church, the family of Christ, who love me and help me grow in my faith in you. Without you, I am nothing. You give me life. You give me hope. And I will ever be grateful. I will worship you always.
Thank you for loving me even when I was not loving you.
Romans 5:8 (NRSV) 8 But God proves his love for us in that while we still were sinners Christ died for us.
Thank you for loving me enough to forgive me. Thank you for loving me enough to invite me to live with you forever.
John 3:16 (NRSV) 16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life."
Thank you for loving me enough to always be with me – in the good times and in the hard times.

Deuteronomy 31:6 (NRSV) 6 "Be strong and bold; have no fear or dread of them, because it is the Lord your God who goes with you; he will not fail you or forsake you.”
In praise and thanksgiving, Terry Rev. Dr. Terry Moore, Senior Pastor

1 Peter 4:10 (ESV) As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace.
Time & Talents
God calls us to humbly serve in love through our time and talents. In October, we celebrated all of the many Sunday morning volunteers who serve every week and invited everyone to complete the Humbly Serving in Love Time & Talents form. There are so many ways to serve on Sundays and throughout the week. Below are a few of the ways in which you are being asked to serve. To learn more and to sign up to serve, we invite you to complete the Time & Talents form which is available in the Welcome Centers, on the website, and on the church mobile app. If you have any questions or would like guidance on the best ways for you to serve, please contact the church office.

Susanna Wesley Circle (SWC) meeting of the season on Friday, November 1 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. in Helms Hall. In our November meeting, we will hear from Pastor Rocío Ávila-Ramírez on the topic of what the Bible says about serving others. As the Missions Pastor at Weddington UMC and a mom of two young boys, Pastor Rocío will use the word of God to show us that God has called us to be ministers and servants to others. By serving others, this not only demonstrates our love for God, but also shares the love of Christ to all that we serve. Calling all shoppers! Once again we will partner with the Union County Christmas Bureau to adopt two families. We begin in November by shopping one morning, then complete the mission together in our December meeting when we wrap each gift. We need lots of shoppers one morning mid-month. We’ll go as teams for each family. Please contact Ashley Nearby at ashleynearby@yahoo.com and Stephanie Lester at stephanieerin27@yahoo.com if you are interested and dates/times will be coordinated. Detailed wish lists and funds are provided for each recipient. This is another example of our consignment sale proceeds at work! Monroe Campus News Health Fair – Matthews Free Clinic/Novant Health Matthews We thank Matthews Free Clinic for their
leadership in organizing a free Health Fair at our Monroe Campus. Novant Health Matthews, Wingate University, and local vendors were also in partnership. Neighbors from the community were able to receive medical testing for diabetes, cholesterol, and blood pressure; flu shots, and health/nutrition education. Local vendors provided refreshments. We had a constant flow of families including teenagers who were able to receive flu shots. Many people were helped and applied to become patients at Matthews Free Clinic for continual care. Amongst all the blessings, two stories were clearly God’s hand moving. That day, two adults were able to get assistance for alarming health issues they were unaware of! Furthermore, they were able to schedule doctors appointments at Matthews Free Clinic for the following Monday.
Homework Help Every Tuesday and Thursday, from 3:30-5:00, we welcome 25
children to the Fellowship Hall at our Monroe Campus. This semester we have many new children enrolled. From those, many are younger, at 6-8 years old. We are excited about this detail because we look forward to walking alongside them as they grow. With more children, we now have opportunity for more volunteers to become an influence in their lives. We need more volunteers! Our goal is to be one-on-one with each child as they work on homework and reading. If you are able or know of someone who is able, please contact Leah Primm at the church office.
English as a Second Language (ESL)
Great news! We have added another ESL class. We now have three levels offered at our Monroe Campus every Tuesday from 7:00-8:30 p.m! Thank you for your support. Page 6
Pastoral Care Pastoral Care Ministry . Rev. Ed Briggs New Support Group for Parents of Addicted Loved Ones
As attention is drawn toward the horrific battle our country is fighting against addiction, there’s a group of victims in the shadows who are unwillingly on the front lines. The parents and family members of addicts are collateral damage – their lives are turned upside down by financial and emotional hardship as they struggle to help their addicted loved one, marriages are destroyed, and many times, hope is lost. There’s an organization here at Weddington UMC that is coming alongside families to bring healing and hope. Parents of Addicted Loved Ones (PAL) helps families deal with the issues surrounding a teen or an adult child struggling with addiction by providing free education, fellowship, and most important, hope. PAL addresses both the “head” and the “heart” of issues surrounding a loved one with addiction. Each meeting provides:
• An evidence-based curriculum of addiction education dealing with critical issues ranging from healthy helping vs. enabling to delayed emotional growth, created by professionals in the treatment and recovery industry, helping parents to set healthy boundaries. • Peer-to-peer support with other parents on the same journey, where they can share what has and hasn’t worked for them, and where they can openly share their stories without fear of judgement. • Faith based to help participants reinforce the role a relationship with God can make in the struggle with loved ones living with addiction.
Why is it so successful? Because it works. Parents discover the tools they need to handle their child’s addiction in healthy ways, and they gain the support they want from other parents experiencing the same challenges. The free weekly groups are led by trained volunteer facilitators who have experienced the issues first-hand, and are open to not just parents, but spouses, grandparents, siblings, and close friends, as long as they are 18 and older and not actively addicted themselves. The weekly meetings are Sunday evenings at 6:30 p.m. beginning on November 3 at the Hemby House. For more information, please contact the PAL facilitator, Jennifer Wyatt, at palweddingtonnc@gmail.com.

This time together will consist of special music, a speaker on the subject of holidays and grief, and communion. The DivorceCare Surviving the Holidays event will be on Wednesday, November 20 at 6:30 p.m. in Room 20. A video will be shown with discussion following on the topic of separation/divorce and the holidays. Communion will follow. I am not sure about you, but we are certainly ready for all the glories of this busy season in our church calendar. Our youth will be heading to Look Up Lodge in November for our Big Fall Retreat. Please join me in keeping the youth, leaders, speaker, and camp in your prayers. We have hope in the visible and invisible work of God and are looking forward to the transformation that'll occur over this powerful retreat. We are a fast paced and intentional Youth Ministry. Sherri Martinez, Director In the spirit of thanksgiving and gratitude, Weddington Christian Preschool would like to sincerely thank you, the congregation, for your love and support of this ministry serving our youngest members. Our goal at WCP is to provide simple mission opportunities that help children develop empathy for others and a generous spirit. We hope these early lessons will give children a lifetime of joy as they GIVE to others - just as God gives to us. Please only participate at your comfort level and always remember that prayer is the best gift to give. • Parkwood Food Pantry WCP is partnering with Parkwood High School to collect non-perishable food items. Upcoming Events Music & Arts Ministry . Dr. Reginald Houze November Special Guest Artists This November, we are happy to welcome two guest artists on Sunday, November 3 for All Saints Sunday at the 11:00 worship service, Pianist Joel Martin and Tenor Chauncey Packer from the Metropolitan Opera. Pianist Joel A. Martin is the creator of Jazzical®, a marriage of classical, jazz, and more. He has collaborated with and/or written music for Grammy® Award-winners Alan Menken, Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Jaimoe of the Allman Brothers, and many others. Joel collaborates and tours the US with multiple Grammy-winning MET opera soprano Kathleen Battle in her production "The Underground Railroad: A Spiritual Journey." As a composer, his first opera “HIPOPERA” is currently underway. Tenor Chauncey Packer has garnered rave reviews for his stage and concert work with orchestras and opera companies around the world. He is a particular favorite for his portrayal of “Sportin’ Life” in The Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess. He received critical acclaim for San Francisco Opera’s DVD release of the production that was broadcast nationally on PBS and he made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera this season.
Evangelism Resources In September, we invited our whole church family to focus on how we as individuals, families, and small groups can share Christ with others in our community. Sometimes evangelism is a scary word but we like to talk about it as farming: farmers plant seeds and nature takes over and the seed becomes a fruitful plant. Christians plant seeds and God takes over. We have a video and discussion guide that all small groups can use to generate vibrant conversation about building our community of faith here at Weddington. These resources are available under the Proclaim tab on the website.
Weddington Christian Counseling Center The holidays can be a challenging time for individuals and families for many reasons. Professional help can give guidance on how to have an emotionally heathier holiday experience. If you or someone you know could use this kind of input, please contact Tony Gibson, a licensed professional counselor whose office is at our Weddington Christian Counseling Center on the Marvin Campus. He can be reached at 704-814-4220 or tgibson.wcc@weddingtonchurch.org.
