Wednesdays @ Weddington starts September 7th! Fall is just around the corner which means Wednesdays @ Weddington is ready to kick off once again! W@W is a church-wide fellowship meal that begins at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesdays. This is a time to gather for fellowship and simply share a wonderful, home-cooked meal together as one congregation. Dinner is followed by various Bible studies, youth and children’s programming and support groups. We are so glad to welcome back our Food Service Director, Kim Veith. Kim starts her third year on staff with us. Our church has been so blessed by her many talents in the kitchen as well as her wonderful heart and love for Christ. One of the things you may often hear Kim share is, “Give me your Grandmother’s recipe and I’ll make it healthy and taste just as good.” Kim seeks to offer healthy meals that nourish the body and the soul. We begin serving at 5:00 p.m. in the Family Life Center. Reservations are not necessary. The cost for meals are $5.00 per person with a family max of $20.00. Take-out meals are available upon request. We hope you and your family will come join the fun on Wednesday night. You’ll be glad you did! Volunteer Opportunities Are you looking for a fun and meaningful way to serve? We are in need of volunteers to help set up, serve and /or clean-up for the Wednesday night dinners. God calls us all to humbly serve in love, and we are in hopes that you would be willing to volunteer with this important ministry here at Weddington. Please contact Tonya Tapp for more information.

The Great Week of Service 2016
Great Week of Service Provides Service Opportunities Our Great Week of Service exemplified the love and generosity of not only the adult volunteers of our church but the children volunteers as well. From making and delivering bagged lunches to Crisis Assistance Ministries of Mecklenburg County, to working up a sweat at Samaritan’s Feet Warehouse, helping in any way they were asked, our families worked together in representing the hands and feet of Jesus. Some of our adult volunteers participated in arts and crafts with the ladies at House of Pearls (a halfway house for women), while others went to White Oak of Waxhaw Assisted Living to sing and worship with the residents. A special thank you to those from The Chancel Choir who shared their beautiful voices! Thank you to all who participated in another Great Week of Service. -Rev. Rocio Ávila-Ramírez, Missions Pastor

If you enjoy teaching and culture, this is a wonderful opportunity to serve. For more information please contact Pete Imhof at pimhof73@gmail.com or Rev. New people to our church from the Monroe community joined in the celebration and shared testimonies. Saturday was a hot day of work cleaning both the inside and outside of the church building. Pastoral Care DivorceCare at WUMC is a place to share “No one ever plans to get divorced. And sometimes that decision is made by one spouse, leaving the other one struggling to accept it and make sense of it. I was blindsided and devastated to learn about my husband’s infidelity and his retaining a lawyer to have separation papers drafted. Everything I read about divorce said to get support. I wasn’t exactly sure how DivorceCare would help me, but all I knew was that I was getting divorced and I certainly needed care. And even though it was a struggle for me to attend the meetings some nights because I was exhausted and drained, I went anyway because I knew that only good could come out of it. The topics covered each week were helpful and although some were not relevant to the stage I was at, the information was still useful. I also liked the spiritual focus of the meetings. When your life is out of control and your ability to trust is challenged, who better to turn to than God? But for me, the most important part of the DivorceCare experience was meeting with other people who were going through the same thing. Having that type of support was invaluable. Listening to my group share their experiences and witnessing their growth encouraged and reassured me.” --Louise C.

SERVE Our last mission trip of the summer, for our rising 6th graders, was a success! We served at the Monroe campus helping to clean both inside and outside but what was truly amazing was watching our new students work alongside the volunteers of the Monroe team. These 6th graders worked hard and without complaint. They are so prepared to serve and that is due to the work of awesome parents, an amazing children’s ministry, and a great church family! We are excited to see how God works through them and our youth ministry over the next several years! Summer Youth Missions Our Summer Youth missions have been absolutely amazing and inspiring. We were able to support 143 youth and adults to go and serve on one of four short-term mission trips this summer! We served in shelters, rehab centers, did home repair for those in need, prayed with people in their homes and on the streets, and worked in food pantries. Unplugging from the “norm” and being able to serve others and go with “the God flow” made a huge impact and will forever be foundational in the discipleship of all that served. We represented Christ and our amazing congregation, and we are so very thankful to our church family for supporting us.
Children and Youth Ministries Children’s Ministry . Evangelism Evangelism . Rev. Amy Hutchison Evangelism Opportunities We are a community dedicated to inviting all to be a part of the Kingdom of God! Sometimes, we think of evangelism solely as knocking on doors or passing out flyers (which are also important tasks!), but evangelism is also being gracious hosts and loving includers. We have multiple levels of getting involved in evangelism here at Weddington, all with various levels of commitment. We would love to have you serve on any or all of these! · Host Team: Serve at various events meeting and greeting newcomers to the community. Currently, this service is limited to on-campus events, but in the future will expand to community events as well. · Upward Sports-specific Host Team: Adopt teams and build relationships with the kids. Many of our kids end up making a decision to follow Christ and need an adult to help walk them through the process. · Hospitality Team: Serve on Sunday mornings by wearing a name tag and declaring you are available to help visitors. Make it your mission to meet and greet any and all visitors who walk in on Sunday mornings and/or take a turn helping out at the information centers. · Invitational Team: Make it your mission to invite any newcomers to wherever you are already going! Going out to lunch? Having a football viewing party? Invite those around you to join in! · Special Events Team: As our community is expanding, our vision of outreach throughout the community is as well! We are now organizing a team that would help the Evangelism Committee plan and research potential events throughout the community. To help out in any of these areas, please contact Amy Hutchison at amy.hutchison@weddingtonchurch.org or 704-814-1304.
Church Fellowship Hall Gets a Makeover Have you been to the Fellowship Hall Kitchen lately? If not, I urge you to go check it out. Once dim and dingy with nothing in the cabinets, it is now a fully working kitchen. It's amazing what a LOT of elbow grease will do. Food Services Director, Kim Veith, and her assistant, Peggy Artry, spent many days cleaning and scrubbing, and they have stocked the kitchen with everything you need to use it. The kitchen is actually a very nice place to cook and hang out in. It has an extra large refrigerator, two dishwashers- one of which has a 90 second cycle! It has two sinks, two great gas ovens with an electric stove top providing ten burners, and a lot of workspace and counter tops. There is also a very easy coffee machine and all of the supplies to go with it. And speaking of supplies, the cabinets are full of dishes, glasses, paper products, pots, pans, spices, etc. And the best part is, the cabinets are labeled! The Fellowship Hall is a great place to have a meeting or an event and the kitchen is perfect for preparing a meal. We would like to offer a very special thank you to Kim Veith and Peggy Artry for the work they did to clean up and organize the Fellowship Hall. If you would like to use the Fellowship Hall for a church event or group meeting, please contact the church office.

Between your generous donations both financially for the purchase of new books and the donation of books from your personal collections, we can’t keep up with the cataloging. What a great problem to have! So stop by, and check it out as there is always a great selection of books, DVD’s, electronic games and audio books. Your library has something for everyone! To preview the complete cataloged collection, go to www.weddingtonchurch.org/ resource-center and select the option to visit the Resource Center website. Page 11

There are some exciting things going on with our Weddington Christian Counseling Center. Currently, we are looking towards arranging for the Sanctuary Counseling Group, formally the Methodist Counseling Center, to oversee our counseling ministry. The benefits of this partnership are numerous. Sanctuary Counseling Group would handle administrative tasks such as the processing of insurance and the scheduling of appointments. They will also offer accountability and support to the counselor who is assigned to our counseling center. The clergy will have input on which counselor comes to Weddington. Once a contract is accepted by both parties, the process of obtaining a counselor will begin. Please keep all our plans in your prayers as we seek to grow our counseling ministry.
