In all seriousness, I began wit h one drink - a mojito - to inspire t he design for t his modern, graphic wedding bar scene. Star ting wit h t he basics of t he drink from a taste perspective, guests can sample a wide variety of delicious desser ts all wit h a subtle mojito inspiration t hat correlates wit h t he mojito recipe card favors so guests can continue t he fun at home. Visually, t hat carries over into t he use of citrus in t he over-t he-top florals and in t he quirky neon signage. From a feel perspective, to me a mojito is what t he cool blogger is suc king down by t he beac h in Cabo. What better way to kic k of f a spring or summer fête t han wit h a coc ktail-driven design t hat ’s all about fun and celebration?

My best friend was a guest at Whitney Wolfe Herd’s (CEO of Bumble)

wedding in Positano, whic h was featured in Vogue. I was blown away by t he intimate details and t he over-t he-top festivities…and it was fun to hear from a guest who was actually t here. There was an element of whimsy t here t hat we tr y to incorporate into eac h of our events, but of course, most people don’t have her budget! Houston isn’t readily known for it ’s elegance like Dallas is or for t he cool factor t hat Austin has. We wanted to show t hat Houston is actually bot h of t hese t hings and you can get married in a fabulous venue like The Clubs at Houston Oaks and have an unbelievable dreamy time.

The reception took place inside the Duomo, a thirty-five foot domed interior —

the centerpiece of The Parador. Tables and chairs for 250 of the couple's friends and family were nestled under the dome. Navy velvet linens topped with terra cotta pots overflowing with blooms marked each table. Taper candles, pillar candles and votives were sprinkled throughout to give the room a warm glow as guests entered from the cocktail hour. The Amalfi china dinner plates not only tied into the color palette, but also picked up elements from The Parador, like the antique tiles used on the wall around the stage.

“ We consistently pulled elements of The Parador into the design. Nib and Pixel used the pattern of the carpet in the invitation liner. I was inspired by the Byzantine tiles on the stage in the Duomo and chose dinner plates to mimic them. The Parador is filled with natural wood finishes so any elements we brought in needed to feel like they belonged there. For example, the welcome table we brought in was an old reclaimed wine tasting table that felt true to the space and like it should have always been there. The terra cotta compotes we used to house the floral centerpieces felt like they could have been made from The Parador's clay roof tiles.” - J E N N I F E R H A R R U P, J E N N I F E R L A U R A D E S I G N

Chelsea and Marc wanted an unforgettable celebration filed with glitz and glamour

and touches of southern elegance. Finding a space that fit the vision was the first priority. The reception featured blush lighting and lounge furniture specially named for the bride, walls of lush florals and a 360 degree mirrored bar. As a special surprise to the couple, a live painter created a work of art reflecting the beauty of their reception. The bride and groom added the finishing touches to the painting which made the portrait event even more special.

chiffon tent draping, gorgeous linens, gold flatware, glass and gold chargers, and glass and gold candle holders. Bright florals were the backdrop for the couple’s engagement photos taken at Houston’s Bayou Bend Collection, and the florals were again the highlight as they softened mahogany wood guest tables, adorned custom walls throughout the country club, and hung in a 16ft ring around the grand chandelier suspended in the reception tent. It was stunning.

My approach is edgy, yet classic at the same time, and I believe statement pieces and great lighting can transform any venue a client throws at me. MAKEUP The look I envisioned was a soft romantic look. On the eyes I used two different soft mauve brown shades for the crease and a soft golden shimmer on the lid. I didn’t want to go to dark on the liner so I used a softer brown shadow to buff out and then applied wispy lashes for a more innocent look. The brows are still carved but not as dramatic which is one of my favorites, to highlight her focal points I used a light gold. I wanted to go for more rosie cheeks instead of a dark contour. And for the lip I went

HAIR + MAKEUP For the hair, we went with a messy, yet sophisticated beach wave — perfect for spring and summer! We used all Kenra products for these looks. For the makeup, we went with a gorgeous bronze look perfect for summer. The eyes had a hint of gold sheen and matte black eyeliner.

MAKEUP We wanted to create a really timeless, classic look that won’t ever look too dated or trendy. Mauve tones were the perfect color palette to make that happen. We applied a soft wash of a warm toned brown matte eye shadow across the lids, with a touch of highlight on the inner corner. We kept cheeks soft and glowing with light touch of mauvey pink blush and a shimmer blush on the high points of the face. We completed the look with a creamy rose colored liquid lipstick and a mauve lip liner blended together for a soft, kissable lip with just a hint of shine.

The key was to create an immaculate base. I kept her skin fresh but not too luminous or matte. On the eyes, I defined the crease with a matte nude shadow about one shade darker than her skin tone, buffing it out a little bit past the outer corners. Then I brushed a champagne-colored shadow all over the inner half of her eyes—so around the inner corners, up over the crease, and on the lids. I completed the glowy look with a rose-gold lip gloss. A sleek

HAIR + MAKEUP For this look, we were going for a soft romantic vibe. For the eyes, we used warm coppery tones, paired with a touch of liner on both top and bottom. We incorporated a nude liner on her waterline to brighten up her beautiful brown eyes. Then, we finished her off with a pop of blush, soft contour and just enough highlight to give her that gorgeous dewy glow! We wanted to keep her style soft and whimsical, so we added some volume with a soft tease and pulled her hair back into a low messy pull

She is based in the South with her husband and son, but spends much time on the West Coast in Santa Barbara where the remaining of her family resides. Her expertise is in working with natural light and medium format film. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Photography from the Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara and honed her skills studying under and working alongside many well known industry veterans.

IN WEDDING PLANNING, I LEARNED ABOUT BALANCING PLANNING AND PERSPECTIVE.
