ASHLEY AND KAMI

Love Prevails (even amidst a pandemic) Little did we know how much was about to change when we first started planning this issue. Who could have predicted the impact COVID-19 would have on weddings — not to mention our everyday lives? In a matter of months, terms like shelter in place, social distancing and #Coronabride became part of our vernacular. These truly have been unprecedented times. Couples with their wedding just days away had to postpone and were left scrambling to reschedule. Other couples that were planning their wedding had to put it on hold, unsure when gatherings of more than 10 people would be allowed — and safe for their loved ones. But unprecedented times call for unprecedented responses. We have seen so many wonderful couples staying positive and working with local wedding vendors to think outside the box about celebrating their big day. From live-streamed ceremonies to drive-by receptions with couples greeting a line of cars from their front yard — we have seen so much joy, even during uncertain times. Love certainly prevailed, and you’re going to love our special wedding section in this issue highlighting some unique COVID weddings and elopements.

perfect proposal P H OTOGRAP H Y

| When photographing a proposal, I plan

beforehand by scouting out the area and discussing details so I am aware of all that will be taking place and can capture every detail of it. Moments like this often happen so fast that it can almost become a blur. I want to ensure that my photos accurately retell this special day including every tear, laugh and kiss in between! I make sure that I am positioned where I can capture the event as it happens without becoming a distraction; that way, those involved are fully present and able to take it all in!

ideal engagement P H OTOGRAP H Y T IP | I always preach on NEUTRALS! While keeping

up with the latest trends can be fun, I suggest you keep it simple for your engagement photos and choose pieces that will stand the test of time. You also want to make sure you don’t clash with your significant other. So if he or she is wearing a print — wear a solid! And vice versa. Not a fan of prints? That’s fine, try layers! A denim jacket or cardigan can add some much needed texture to the images. My last tip is to diversify your outfits by bringing one casual and one on the dressy side. This way while you’re in your jeans or shorts we can get those fun photos with you on his back, shoulders, sitting down — however you want. Then, for the dressy outfit we get those more delicate and posed photos that make you look like a GODDESS. I got you, boo.

getting ready P H OTOGRAP H Y T IP | Some of my favorite moments during the getting ready

time are the sweet moments between the bride and the special women in her life…whether that be her mother, grandmother, sister or aunt. The sweet moment of those women looking at this precious girl they’ve known their whole life as she transforms into a blushing bride before their eyes. Getting someone dressed doesn’t seem like a big deal, but you can almost see the thoughts going across their minds as they button her into a beautiful gown. “She’s all grown up…it feels like just yesterday that she was playing dress up and begging to wear my makeup.” Those moments are quite precious, and I feel honored to be able to witness them and capture them for you to have for all of time. first look P H OTOGRAP H Y T IP | Usually couples are just as enraptured with one

another in the ceremony as they were during their first look. By doing a first look before the ceremony, you get two experiences. My husband and I had a first look, and our hearts still skipped a beat when the doors were opened. Second, you get two experiences (one private and one during the ceremony). It creates a very tender moment between a bride and groom, away from wedding party and guests. My husband and I held hands as we walked around the church and savored the time together. We approach photographing a wedding party with a lot of energy and movement, so we work with the wedding party’s natural excitement. the ceremony P HOTO GR A P HY TI P | Even lighting is key when it comes to beautiful photos!

For an outdoor wedding, this means open shade with no spots of light falling on either of your faces. Try to position your ceremony set up so the sun is setting either behind the altar or slightly off to the left or right. For an indoor ceremony, this means checking how much natural light is available and making sure there aren’t any bright sunbeams coming in from the windows. If you are able, visit your venue at the same time of day as your ceremony. Stand in place with your fiancé and see how the light is hitting your faces. candid moments P HOTO G R A P HY TI P | Above all else, you should both feel comfortable and

confident on your wedding day. Your wedding should represent you and your spouse, and if kissing and PDA in front of others makes for an uncomfortable setting, there are plenty of other ways to capture the love you share. A great way to navigate these waters before your big day is to do an engagement session with your photographer. An engagement session is a more relaxed setting and is a great way for your photographer to learn about you and how you interact with each other. This will also give you an opportunity to work together to come up with a plan for your big day. So many clients tell me that their favorite photos are from their reception, and I think in a lot of cases, it’s where they felt the most themselves – just partying with their people. P o rc e l a i n with Crown of Glory Beauty @crownofglorybeauty What colors and products perfectly complement a porcelain skin tone? Let me just say that I am obsessed with redheads, probably because I have a few redheaded nieces who are just THE CUTEST. Typically, redheads are pretty fair skinned, with more warm pink and red undertones. Warm color palettes like reds, orange, peach and golds, and of course, neutrals look great on redheads, in my opinion! For Kelly’s wedding day, her light, coppery hair color was my inspiration behind her makeup color palette. I just had to use the golds, coppers and peach eyeshadow and blush colors that our Elevé Cosmetics (Crown of Glory’s go-to clean makeup line) Crop Top + Flip Flops makeup palette has to offer. If you are a redhead, you NEED this palette in your makeup bag! I finished her off with a matte, velvety lipstick in shade Caribbean because of its peachy orange color. On her fair skin, it looks like a muted orange/red lip. Which adds the perfect complementary pop of color to her blue eyes!

What products did you use to achieve this particular look? I am committed to using clean, high quality skin care and makeup personally, so why wouldn’t I extend the same standards to my clients?! That’s why we are committed to using Elevé – a local Texas independent beauty line. The best part about redheads is their freckles, so we do not want to use a heavy foundation that is going to cover those beauties up! So in addition to the Crop Top + Flip Flops palette and Caribbean matte lipstick, we used the lightweight, creamy Bombshell Beauty Balm in shade Fair. Bonus — it has natural SPF to protect her fair skin from the sun!

What are some tips for finding out what undertone you are? When it comes to color matching your foundation, we must understand the difference between our skin tone and undertone. Your skin tone is the level of light or darkness your skin has (from fair, medium to dark) which can change throughout the seasons depending on how much sun exposure you have had. Your undertone is the underlying tone your skin has (neutral, warm or cool). This does not change. While there are many ways to determine your undertone, a good way to know is to look at the under part of your arm or wrist in the indirect sunlight (near a window). Do you see more blue veins? You’re most likely cool. If you see more green/olive colors, you are warm. If you can’t decide, you might be neutral. Have patience with yourself, try out different foundations on your wrist or neck and determine which foundations you think blend in well! Essentially, you want your foundation to melt into your skin and give you a radiant glow!

What products did you use in this look?

wa r m I V O R Y

We love our go-to palette and hue line, “Pillow Talk” by Charlotte Tilbury. A very simple, elegant bridal look, but still maintains with the current trends of the beauty world!

with Etoilly Artistry @etoillyartistry

How do you find a color match?

What colors do you love to use for a warm ivory skin tone? On Jocelyn, we wanted to bring out her gorgeous, glowing, ivory skin by using warm, blush tones throughout, and we predominantly used a warm tan to make her blue eyes POP! A warmer bronze or blush tone is always a blue-eyed-girl’s best friend!

The easiest and most efficient way to determine your skin’s undertones is by color matching to your neck! Many artists will color match to your chest or the underside of a client’s arm, but we have found that this sometimes creates an inaccurate skin tone that’s not perfectly matched to the client. The underarm can definitely help in finding the proper undertone, but you must assess the client’s complete complexion for a perfect color match!

MEDIUM with Butter Artistry @butterartistry

and her contour to help accentuate and complement her natural milk chocolate freckles, and we topped off the apples of her cheeks with a cool lavender-pink blush. We kept her eyeshadow soft and to a minimum to accentuate her long lashes and bold brows.

What are some tips to finding what undertone you are? What colors perfectly complement a medium skin tone? Her skin tone is a gorgeous medium shade with a neutral undertone. A neutral undertone allows for her to wear both cool tones and warm tones based on her desired look and possibly what she is choosing to wear that day. We chose to focus on bringing out the blush undertones in her skin by creating a look with cool colors. Hints of lavender and a soft white shimmer can be found in her eyeshadow and blush. Using cooler colors like a rosy pink lipstick, and a highlight with a dash of pink instead of gold allowed for us to play up her blue-green eyes and her off-white wedding dress.

What products did you use to achieve this particular look? Because this bride had beautiful natural freckles across her nose and her cheekbones, we chose to use a light layer of foundation, so as not to hide them. A warm bronze color was chosen for her liner

Your undertone is also often determined or reflected by your natural hair and eye color. This bride’s crystal blue-green eyes and sunkissed light brown hair is a natural complement to her neutral, yet slightly pink undertone. Now that is not to say that if she was naturally tan in the summertime or changed her hair color that her undertones wouldn’t adapt and change. It is important to always adjust your makeup to things that you may change, like the richness of your tan or your hair color. If you suddenly go from blonde hair to black hair, your undertone will most likely have a shift to the naked eye as it is now juxtaposed against a new bold color. When deciding what undertone you are, we suggest starting with your foundation to determine cool, warm or neutral tones for you. Cool undertones will look better in a pink base, warm tones in yellow base foundations, and neutral tones in a slightly peach colored base. We suggest always testing your foundation to the center of your chest to achieve the most accurate match.

OLIVE with ELM Beauty @elmbeautytx What lip color is your fave for this skin tone? We really wanted the focus of this look to be the wine-colored lip. By using a sheer lipstick with a subtle satin finish, we kept the look modern and the lips kissable.

What eye look works well with an olive tone? On the eyes, we did a soft wash of champagne and bronze to shape the eye without being too harsh. Fluttery lashes added a little drama and a lot of romance.

What are your go-to skin tips? Skin stayed soft and satiny with the help of light diffusing powders and a touch of bronzer on the high points of the face. A light facial oil on the cheekbones made the skin glow and kept the look from getting too matte and heavy.

C H E ST N U T with Hey Lovely @heylovelymakeup What do you use primarily for a chestnut skin tone? We love bronzes, plums, creams and golds.

What products did you use to achieve this look? We used Bobbi Brown and Tarte chocolate, mauve and cream shadows. Blush was Nars Amour.

What are some tips to finding what undertone you are? You have cool undertones if you can see blue veins in your skin. If your veins appear green or olive on the skin, you’re warm. Neutral is a mixture of both warm and cool undertones. Very Fair: Fair skin tends to have neutral or cooler undertones. Cooler-toned shades such as taupe, beige and soft pinks complement this undertone. Light: Skin that’s light but not as fair look best in cooler-toned shades that are more soft and neutral such as grays and deeper beiges. Medium: This skin tone usually has the ability to go with both warmer and cooler colors Olive: Like medium, olive can also do both warmer and cooler shades, though I’d recommend adding more vivid colors, as olive skin tones can usually handle it. She had such a beautiful undertone, we wanted to keep it soft with rose colored blush, golden bronzers and a golden highlighter.

This is one of the most common concerns we get from clients, but we always give them this little tip: If you are in between colors, or feel like your foundation always looks a bit dull, try mixing two foundations together! You’ll probably get a gorgeous glow and fall in love with it!

What products did you use to achieve particular look? We used Charlotte Tilbury’s “Pillow Talk” palette for this look. We loved the dusty rose tones and wanted to keep everything very natural. We also finished it with the same brand and color lipstick — “Pillow Talk.”

Celebrating weddings during a season unlike any other

he times may be unprecedented, but despite the chaos and uncertainty, we’ve learned that nothing...not even a pandemic can prevent love from prevailing. When it became apparent that our world almost overnight was drastically changing, no one had the answers on if and when we could expect to resume our normal lives. Those with weddings on the immediate horizon were some of the hardest hit with the news and faced with some of the most difficult decisions to make. For an unknown period, ceremonies and celebratory gatherings were postponed. For couples planning, it was heartbreaking and our hearts broke for them. It didn’t seem fair for uncontrollable forces to alter such significant plans. And for so many, it didn’t! Love prevailed and couples carried on with making their marriage official with more than a meaningful Plan B. Here are just some of their heartfelt stories.

ur wedding celebration was set for May 24, 2020, in Houston, Texas, at our favorite venue — The Dunlavy. Then

came COVID-19 in March. The Dunlavy gave the bad news that the wedding would not be able to move forward as planned; we were devastated. The following month, Efrain’s mother was diagnosed with acute cancer. It seemed 2020 would not be our year as we had once so happily proclaimed. As the news seemed to only get worse, we received a call from The Dunlavy – the wedding could go on! But it had to be virtual because of the social distancing rules in place. The intimacy reminded us it was just the two of us getting married, and we were able to experience each moment intensely. From the ceremony by Efrain’s dad, an ordained minister, to the speech by my dad from Canada, to the first dance and champagne toast — it was all such a dream. As we adjusted to married life during the pandemic, we learned Mustard Seed Photography

that Efrain’s mother was to be hospitalized as her cancer had become more aggressive, and she sadly passed away on June 18th. As we grieved, we still knew there was a purpose for everything and we are grateful that she was able to experience our wedding, as she made it known it was one of her great wishes to see us married. We are happy to say that one month after her passing, we found out we are pregnant. As many have experienced during this pandemic, focusing on the good is important. We are so grateful we were able to be married the way we were, with our loved ones watching along. In many ways, it seems like it happened in the manner in which it should have.

ur love was not postponed. I could have made a list of 1,001 things that could have gone

wrong on our wedding day, and a global pandemic wouldn’t have been one of them. Pretty soon after the world went into lock down, it was clear that our May wedding wouldn’t go anything like we’d planned. When we made the decision to go forward with a wedding in my parents’ backyard, neither of us or our families were sure if we were making the right decision. My husband and I worried that we may look back years later and feel that we never really had the type of momentous, life changing event where we would feel that finally, after 10 years of dating, we were taking a drastic step into a whole new world together as husband and wife. Ultimately, though, our micro-wedding with 15 people, including ourselves, turned out to be more beautiful and memorable than we had ever dreamed. Our extended family and friends joined us in a socially distanced drive-by parade that we will remember forever. The saying “don’t sweat the small stuff”

yler and I were originally supposed to have our dream wedding on June 10, 2020, in Lake Como, Italy. When

the coronavirus started surging in Northern Italy, we knew we would most likely have to postpone. It was really hard to make the call because we were holding on to that last little bit of hope that it could still happen. At the very beginning of April, we decided to postpone to July 2021. To say we were disappointed, would be an understatement. Just three weeks before our original wedding date was supposed to be, we talked with our vendors, and they were happy to help us have a small ceremony in Houston in the interim. We decided to just have immediate family and our pastor at an intimate outdoor ceremony on June 16th. It turned out absolutely

ur wedding day was very different than we had originally envisioned it to be. We only had family and

a small portion of our bridal party there to help us run everything behind the scenes. To keep everyone safe, we held our ceremony and reception in the backyard of my childhood home. We had a beautiful, intimate ceremony that we chose to live stream for all of the other important people who couldn’t be there. After our ceremony, we were able to take a short walk to the bayou just steps from my front door and take our intimate couple’s pictures. When we arrived back from photos, our maid of honor and best man had planned a car parade with many of our friends and family who were not able to make it to our wedding. We then celebrated our marriage by hosting a small reception in the backyard with Mexican food and margaritas. Chris and I were even able to cut a cake and have a first dance. The whole day was thankful for how it turned out.

ur original wedding date was March 28th. We were weeks away and finalizing our last wedding details when

COVID-19 hit. We decided to postpone our wedding to May hoping things would be better by then, but we came to the realization that things were not going to change. We postponed our wedding again, but decided to move forward with our ceremony. Although our wedding was not planned in the most traditional way, I still wanted to incorporate some traditions. Our florist gave me small, blue flowers to place in my hair as my something blue, I got a new dress for my something new, I wore my pearl earrings as something old, and my mom lent me her bracelet as something borrowed. All components worked perfectly in such a simple way! During our first touch, we prayed and thanked God for allowing us to celebrate this day with our family. Geoff headed to the altar, and I waited for my grandmother to do a first look. My grandmother gave me away and soon after Geoff and I were finally husband and wife! Afterward, our family gathered at

When it came to the Friday before our original date, Edgar and I decided we couldn’t just sit at home and let this day go by. We messaged some family and set up a backyard wedding ceremony at my brother and sister-in-law’s house. At 10 am on Saturday, March 28, 11 of us and our photographer joined to have a Zoom wedding ceremony. My brother, who was always going to be our officiant, made it official. We exchanged rings, kissed, cried and toasted with champagne. Through it all, I’m so glad we went through with it. Friends and family said our ceremony was a light in this time of darkness, and I’m so glad that something so meaningful to us could also be so beautiful for others! n June of 2019, we got engaged and began planning our dream wedding for April 2020 in Bryan, Texas. There are

several things you worry about when planning an outdoor wedding in Texas, but a global pandemic never even occurred to us. Four weeks before our April 10th wedding, we had to make the heartbreaking decision to postpone all of our plans and wait for a safer time to get everyone together. We contemplated waiting until our rescheduled date, but as our original wedding date grew closer, I just couldn’t imagine not marrying my best friend on the day we had planned for so long. We were brainstorming locations when my sister-in-laws offered their property. A few years ago, they began building a quaint little chapel on their property in Dickinson, Texas. They would randomly work on it from time to time, but when we needed a place to get married during a nationwide shutdown, the whole family pitched in to finish. I woke up in my bed at my parents’ house, my sister painted my nails, and I talked to my bridesmaids on FaceTime. With only our immediate family present and several others watching from Facebook Live, my brother-in-law married us in Weddings by Westy

Waymaker Chapel. We made our exit walk down the aisle, and our sisters flung the doors open for a dramatic picture effect, but we never guessed that our wedding party would be in the parking lot, there to celebrate us with signs and cheers! This moment was more special than we could have ever dreamed and definitely the silver lining in the nightmare that is being a “Covid Bride.”

OVID-19 threw our wedding for a loop! Dakota and I spent countless hours examining all of our

options: we could keep everything the same, reduce guest count, change our date, etc. Upon coming to the realization that we had an endless number of options, we had to examine our priorities. We decided that what mattered most to the two of us was just getting married. Because of this, we chose to move forward with our initial date and take whatever precautions necessary to ensure our guests’ safety. This meant that our guest count, ceremony time and wedding party had to be changed, but none of that mattered. All that mattered was that we were getting to marry our best friend and begin our life together. The most important thing I learned from planning my wedding is that you’ll always have bumps along the way, whether it’s as small as a single hair being out of place or as big as COVID-19 turning your entire wedding upside down, you will run into the end of the day what matters most is that you get to marry the person you love!

couple’s showers, my bachelorette trip, our Italian honeymoon and then finally our wedding. We decided to postpone our large reception a full year until May 7, 2021, for the health and safety of all our guests. However, it was very meaningful and important to us to still get married on our original date. Our families and amazing vendors helped us pull together the most gorgeous day. We had an intimate ceremony at our venue with my aunt officiating and our parents and grandparents in attendance, while streaming the ceremony to other friends and family. We had our first look, private vows and ceremony with our family, and then our first dance in the beautiful Meekermark chapel. My grandmothers were my impromptu flower girls, and my grandparents hosted a backyard reception for us afterward, complete with champagne toasts and cake. The elopement was nothing short of an adventure – full of so much love and laughter. t the beginning of April, my fiancé and I were faced with the same very difficult decision that many

engaged couples at the time were faced with: should we postpone our wedding? We went back-and-forth for weeks trying to decide what the best solution was. Ultimately, we did not want to put our loved ones at risk, and decided that with the uncertainty surrounding COVID-19, it would be best to go ahead and postpone our wedding. As difficult as this decision was, we knew it was the right thing to do. That same day, we decided that since COVID-19 was forcing us to change our wedding plans, why not go ahead and get married with a small ceremony surrounded by our immediate family and close friends? We went down to the county clerk, obtained our marriage license, and proceeded to plan our small ceremony in two short weeks. The entire experience of having to reschedule our big wedding and planning an intimate ceremony made us realize that a lot of things we were originally worrying about, ultimately were not important. What really matters is the love that we share,

ince the summer of 2019, we have been planning a 75-person wedding in River Oaks. When COVID-19

began to impact the Houston area in March, we initially did not make any decisions regarding our wedding as we were all waiting to see how the pandemic would impact our community and country. By mid-April, we realized that it was in the best interest of the health and safety of our loved ones and vendors to cancel our original plans. Some of our closest family members live in Florida, Michigan, Washington and across the border in Matamoros. We did not want to expose them to the uncertainties of travel, and we certainly knew that we could not host a wedding without them by our sides. We took a few days to consider our options and ultimately decided that it was still important for us to become husband and wife on our original date. If anything, the pandemic reminded us how short and precious life is, and we did not want this to delay our plans spoke privately on the wedding day and even today, our only sadness was that more of our loved ones could not experience the beauty of the day firsthand. To any couples reading this and wondering if they should postpone or proceed with a more intimate wedding, I can say with 100% certainty that we do not regret our decision and would recommend this path to others concerned with how their plans are being impacted.

he week of March 20th was when things started to go bad. I am in medical school and about to graduate to

go on the front lines as a doctor in Cincinnati, and that week was supposed to be a celebration week where all the medical students in their 4th year find out where they are going for their medical training, but every single celebratory event that week had gotten cancelled. I tried to ignore it because I couldn’t believe the possibility that every event I had lined up for this spring was about to get cancelled. By March 19th, they released a statement about gatherings being less than 10, so we knew it was time to pull the plug on our original wedding. I started working with our planner to figure out alternative dates. Unfortunately, my venue had a policy that I had to reschedule within 120 days, so we settled on trying to move our wedding to June 7th. We desperately wanted the dream wedding we had been planning for a year, but we were still worried for our guests. So, we started the conversation with our vendors again, this time pushing the wedding as far back as possible to avoid a third postponement. After talking to my program, the only month they could give me vacation was in January. Luckily, everyone was willing to work with us and we were able to move our wedding to January 24, 2021.

o be honest, a large, traditional wedding had never been my dream, but it had snowballed

into that during the wedding planning process. In March, it became apparent that our plans would need to change in light of COVID-19. After surveying our options, we decided the safest thing to do was to postpone the reception, however, we still wanted to find a way to get married in May and start our life together. The next two months were full of attempts to make decisions amongst so many ever-changing unknowns. At the end of the day, we decided the most important thing for us was to include as many of our loved ones as possible. While only our immediate families would attend the ceremony, we moved it to the larger sanctuary so that the church could livestream it for all the people we wished could be there. I got ready with my mom and sister and Zoomed with friends before walking down the aisle. The guests from Houston

Because our wedding was supposed to be in California, we were not able to get married at our original wedding location. real dream come true! We were both in college at the time and decided to hold off our wedding until 2020 to give ourselves more time to save up for our dream day. Our date was set for May 23, 2020! That was the day we counted down to for years. We held out hope as long as we could, but ultimately we had to make the decision to postpone our big day due to COVID-19. That was the hardest choice we have ever had to make together. Our lovely vendors made the change as seamless as possible, and I can’t thank them enough for that. We made the choice to get legally married on May 23rd, and I literally found the dress I wore the night before our wedding. We held the ceremony at the gardens on Texas A&M’s campus and only had immediate family and our photographer there. Although we got married that day, we decided to keep it a secret. We still haven’t mentioned it to people unless they ask. To us, that date was THE DATE and will always be our wedding date, but it was not the wedding we wanted to have. We held our second big day on June 26, 2020. With everything going on, it still felt so surreal to marry my husband (again). All of our vendors worked with us and made that day absolutely perfect. Four weeks before our original wedding date the capacity of any space, including our venue, was changed to twenty-five percent. We were so sad at the thought of having to go through our list and choose who would and wouldn’t come. We came to a quick conclusion that we would rather just get married and start our lives together, so we twenty people. My best friends and bridesmaids got into town, and it began to feel more like a celebration than how it previously felt, as something Matthew and I had lost. It ended up being a beautiful weekend full of love, laughter and fun! Amidst all the tragedy and uncertainty, we got to proclaim God’s goodness and faithfulness, including how he healed Matthew from cancer and that he was alive that day for us to marry.

We want our couples and their families to feel good about their investment and to enjoy every part of the wedding planning experience.

4 Ensure No Key Detail is Overlooked Events by Sarah @eventsbysarah

We are able to point couples in the right direction from the get-go in terms of selecting their vendors. Based on the couples theme, budget and such, we can take a lot of the leg work of searching out for them. Once they select a vendor, we are able to review proposals, suggest omissions/ additions and really help them see the whole picture of the wedding very early in the planning process. Our relationships with various vendors around town also allow for our clients to receive monetary discounts extended to them as well!

Plan Our Day

@planourdayhouston

Ensure You Stay On Track I think that just because couples are opting for a smaller gathering doesn’t mean they want to forgo the personalization of their wedding. Small weddings don’t equal a ‘wedding in a box.’ Our clients still want to spend time selecting the things that are special to them. They still want and appreciate guidance during the planning and someone to ensure things run smoothly on the wedding day. We get to become an even more intimate part of their day!

EPOCH CO+

@epochcoevents

We utilize a cloud-based planning program for our clients that houses our comprehensive checklist, which covers everything big or small from start to finish. We start by tailoring this list to each client and their individual needs, taking into consideration their individual work and travel schedules. We know this overall checklist can get overwhelming when looking at the big picture, so to help our clients stay on track for a stress-free planning season, we have an assigned overview of specific items to focus on each week and month.

It is a full-time job making sure everything happens exactly when it is supposed to happen during a wedding. From organizing your vendors, corralling your wedding party, and making sure that your beautiful wedding cake is cut, there is a lot to do! With all of their previous knowledge and experience, wedding planners know exactly how much time to allow for each wedding event, how to gently guide you through the day without demanding or rushing, and allow you to have the most amazing, stress-free day of your life! This is a special day to celebrate your love with your friends and family, not a day for you to worry about schedules or constantly looking at the time. Let Your Friends and Family Enjoy Your Wedding Day with You

It can be really difficult to facilitate all the details of a wedding while still attending as a guest. Many wedding planners, including Cloud9, offer a less expensive ‘Wedding Day Management’ package to help clients ensure the enjoyment of their family and friends. This budget-friendly package is perfect for our more hands-on brides, because it allows them to take charge of selecting their vendors, and the day of coordinator can compile the details and schedule about three weeks out. Even if a full-service planner is not in your budget, we definitely recommend hiring a day of coordinator. TRENDS WE ARE LOVING Let us walk you through a few of this season’s top wedding trends!

Hear even more insight on these top trends on IGTV

@bridesofhouston

1 TREND . STATEMENT CHAIRS

PARTY TIME RENTALS French Country chairs are the perfect detail for an all-white affair or as a statement piece in a sea of color. Whether rustic, shabby-chic or somewhere in between, this chair with its infinity circle design is perfect for your wedding day.

2 TREND . VINTAGE FURNITURE

OLIVER AND PENELOPE VINTAGE RENTALS Vintage furniture and decor pieces seem to be all the rage right now. Whether it’s a sofa, antique buffet, goblets or even just brass candlesticks and hurricane lanterns, one piece or a mixture of pieces can add romance and elegance to transform any space! There’s nothing more rewarding for us than to help couples find the perfect pieces that reflect their style and help their vision for their special day to come true! As couples celebrate their love and promise it to each other for a lifetime, they can bring in the love of beautiful antique pieces that have held the test of time. They add not only functionality but beauty and character, creating a space that their guests will enjoy and remember. The possibilities are endless and timeless.

3 TREND . MIX & MATCH CHINA

BERING’S We are loving the mix and match china trend! It’s the perfect self-expression with a creative twist to the traditional, formal tabletop. It’s exciting to help couples pick out their own unique china table setting by combining different patterns and brands. This portrays the couple’s individual style and allows them to customize their place setting for life’s greatest memories.

4 TREND . GILDED GOLD ACCENTS

AVALON EVENT RENTALS We wanted to show that you can have micro, outdoor events without losing the glam. Invite nature into your event as it can make the perfect backdrop. This look features blush tones and very modern gilt trim furniture. The gold accents exude a bright and bold aspect creating a sense of opulence. This look is not only HOT and trending, but it would also make everyone feel like royalty!

5 TREND . MIXED METALS

LBL EVENT RENTALS Mixed metal and sparkling linens have become a top pick. We see two-tone sequins as well as incorporation of metallics in linens and table decor and these shimmering metals aren’t limited to just silver and golds. We see a lot of coppers and rose golds for a pop of color with a definite shine.

6 TREND . VELVET LINENS

LAVISH LINENS Velvet has been trending for a couple of years now in weddings. From small details in weddings to fully being used as table settings. There is something about this luxe, textured material that has quickly become popular even in non- winter seasons. Velvet adds a soft feel with an elegant and elevated texture!

@lavishlinenshtx

7 TREND . PRESENTATIONS

COTTON CULINARY This season, our brides are opting for a white-out style with green or citrus-colored accents. This softer style inspires the same elegance in the menu and the presentation of the hors d’oeuvres and main course. For example, many couples are requesting highend hors d’oeuvres like shrimp and grits shooters, quail medallions and bruschetta, all of which fit in with the simple, yet elegant, style. Action stations, where food is cooked to order, have also become popular and can be a safer option during the current pandemic as it limits human contact with the food.

@cottonculinary Photo | Harlow & May Studios Also Pictured | Little Coterie • Marburger Farm Antique Show

TREND . PERSONAL PAPERIE

JO’S PAPER KITCHEN From that moment when they open your save the date or invitation, they are getting a very personal expression of your love story. Your invitation is a preview of the day that you are planning and sharing with them. Let your creativity really shine. Highlight your gorgeous venue or a beautiful portrait from an engagement session. I love to incorporate “Easter eggs” for couples. For instance, a groom was from Ireland, so we hid a shamrock into the floral illustration that was on their save the date. Each suite I create is curated and hand-assembled to layer important pieces together. The statement can be bold or sentimental and subtle.

@jospaperkitchen 71

9 TREND . GRAND WEDDING CAKES

CAKES BY GINA Building tall wedding cakes is always an exciting challenge for us. We love the entire process, starting with making the sketch, building a styrofoam model at the consultation, then watching it come to life in the kitchen. Multi-tiered wedding cakes are so special for our customers and create a sense of grandeur. Oftentimes, their cake acts as a centerpiece for the whole wedding! I love seeing the evolution of wedding cake trends and have pushed myself to continue to innovate and grow with the changes. We are excited to continue to grow with the future trends of weddings and our signature cakes.

@cakesbyginahou

72

10 TREND . CUSTOM COCKTAILS

A FARE EXTRAORDINAIRE A custom cocktail is a perfect way to infuse a couple’s personality into the reception. Cocktails allow for personalization in so many ways – a catchy name, colorful glassware and garnishes, personalized cocktail napkins… the list goes on! The cocktail recipe can also tell guests about the couple’s past or future. Did you get engaged at a French restaurant, or are you heading off to Mexico for your honeymoon? Offer something champagne-based or a cute mini-margarita as a nod to these special memories. Don’t forget about mocktails! Alcohol-free agua frescas and herb-infused spa waters are two options perfect for an outdoor ceremony or brunch reception. No matter what you choose to offer your guests, make it memorable with a custom cocktail!

11 TREND . SOFTLY ILLUMINATED COMPLEXIONS

ADORNE ARTISTRY We love beautiful skin, and illuminated, soft, natural looking beauty looks have become the new standard. To achieve that lit-from-within glow, skin prep is key. We love Sonia Roselli Beauty’s skin prep line! A light liquid formula foundation that boosts radiance, like Charlotte Tilbury’s Light Wonder Foundation and Hollywood Flawless Filter, are the perfect duo to a dewy glow. Add a pop of your favorite cheek color and a little lipstick, and you’re golden!

12 TREND . COLORFUL GEMS

KAIRA For the wedding day jewelry, a pop of color is our favorite addition to a modern bride. It makes the look feel fresh and different. There are so many elements you can incorporate in your jewelry to make a statement in your big day! From your earrings being your something blue, to redesigning a vintage family piece to wear as your something old, or incorporating the birthstones of bride and groom into a band or a bracelet for the bride to cherish their union together, we love working with bold brides and grooms because the possibilities of what we can create together are endless.

Get Camera Ready “My biggest thing is to acknowledge the awkwardness up front. I like to get my couples moving almost immediately so that they start thinking about that rather than ‘looking good.’ Walking and holding hands is an easy intro, while I start asking them about their likes and dislikes and joking with them a bit. Aside from the beginning jitters, my goal is for the session to feel like a hang out. By the end, we should all be relaxed and laughing.”

“Think of places you love to go to together that hold special memories. Where you had your first date, where he/she proposed, a park you love to walk through together or even just a place you find to be beautiful that reminds you of home. We have so many couples that just don’t know where to begin, and that’s alright. Start by asking yourself what places you two love to visit, and if you still can’t think of anything, we always have places in mind we can point you toward.”

“Your engagement session should be a fun time when you’re getting to know your photographer and most importantly, getting excited to marry the love of your life! When pairing together the perfect outfits, a great starting point is choosing two or three outfits that you feel comfortable and confident in. We usually recommend bringing at least one date night casual outfit and one more formal outfit. For formal outfits, dresses are great for girls and button ups with blazers are great for guys!”

“Including your heirlooms into your images gives your future children and family the chance to look back and remember how it was used in this certain way, and it might make it even more special to them if they choose to use it for their wedding day.”

Timing is Everything “When it comes to photography, lighting is everything. In order to capture those dreamy sunset photos and have ideal lighting for portraits throughout the day, your photographer should have input on your wedding day photo timeline. I typically contact my clients 2-3 months prior to the wedding day and ask a series of questions which helps me to draft up the best possible timeline for ideal lighting in photos.”

“One of my biggest goals with all of my couples is for them to be flooded with emotions all over again when they view both sneak peaks and their full wedding gallery. I incorporate many candids in their galleries, but when directing wedding portraits of the newlyweds, I want to see their relationship and connection come alive in photos. Just because images are still, doesn’t mean you can’t see life and movement in them. I always joke with my couples that ‘the more hands or touching, the better.’ Feel the joy behind it, whether it’s a gentle touch or a grab…and whatever you do, don’t kiss! No really, it’s extremely rare that you’ll find posed images of mine where the couple is kissing — the movement leading up to the kiss is the money shot!”

“Our favorite wedding day memory was unplanned and spontaneous. We were expecting to miss our cocktail hour since we didn’t do a first look and had to take all of our formal photos, however, we had more free time than we were anticipating.

Our wedding planner had the great idea to send us directly to the cocktail hour after our formal photos. All our guests cheered for us when we entered the room and it was a wonderful feeling! We got to see all the cocktail hour decor that we had specifically designed, such as our signature drinks, menus and the giant periodic table seating chart.” DANIELLE, BRIDE

The greatest feeling of happiness and tranquility washed over me and I couldn’t help but smile. All the stresses of the day didn’t seem to matter anymore; all that mattered was Dakota. One Thing I Learned...

WE ORIGINALLY WERE GOING TO HAVE OUR WEDDING IN ITALY IN JUNE, BUT SINCE OUR WEDDING WAS DURING COVID-19 WE POSTPONED THE BIG WEDDING CELEBRATION UNTIL NEXT YEAR AND HAD A SMALL CEREMONY IN THE INTERIM. THIS WASN’T IDEAL FOR US, BUT WE HAD TO LEARN TO COMPROMISE AND DO WHAT WOULD MAKE US THE MOST HAPPY AND KEEP OUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS SAFE.
