Love Prevails (even amidst a pandemic) Little did we know how much was about to change when we first started planning this issue. Who could have predicted the impact COVID-19 would have on weddings — not to mention our everyday lives? In a matter of months, terms like shelter in place, social distancing and #Coronabride became part of our vernacular. These truly have been unprecedented times. Couples with their wedding just days away had to postpone and were left scrambling to reschedule. Other couples that were planning their wedding had to put it on hold, unsure when gatherings of more than 10 people would be allowed — and safe for their loved ones. But unprecedented times call for unprecedented responses. We have seen so many wonderful couples staying positive and working with local wedding vendors to think outside the box about celebrating their big day. From live-streamed ceremonies to drive-by receptions with couples greeting a line of cars from their front yard — we have seen so much joy, even during uncertain times. Just like you, the restrictions during COVID-19 delayed our plans for photoshoots and editorials. How many invites should I order? A:

We recommend finalizing your guest list while you are in the process of ordering your invitations. Your quantity of invitations is determined by the number of addresses you will be mailing to, rather than the number of guests attending. We always recommend ordering about 15% to 20% additional invitations and envelopes just in case there are last minute guests to add or a mistake in the addressing.

CHOCTAW DRESSES consist of vibrant colored dresses and shirts – ribbons that drape down the back, handsewn diamond embroidery, ruffles, an apron for the women and particular style lines. Choctaws have a deep connection and respect for the earth and the animals, which is why certain characteristics were incorporated in the traditional wear. The different colored ribbons on both the men and women represent different elements of the earth. The diamonds represent reverence for diamondback rattlesnakes. The ruffles represent the great Chiefs. The apron was originally for functionality. The overall style of a Choctaw dress was influenced by a French peasant look dating back to the 1800s.

Choctaws have a deep connection and respect for the earth and the animals. Many signifying design elements are incorporated in the traditional wear and marriage ceremonies. Each part of the ceremony not only is a representation of the bond between spouses and families but also a bond to Mother Earth. 118

In a traditional Choctaw wedding ceremony, the blanket draped over the couple’s shoulders signifies unity of the two families.

THE WEDDING DANCE is a rhythmic dance set to a chant with simple footwork and movement. The set up for the dance is similar to the design of a clock face. The couple is located in the center of the “numbers” standing face-to-face with pinkies locked, symbolizing the eagle’s clutching talons. Eagles were believed to mate for life, and the culture aspires to reflect the eagles’ bond in their own marriages. Family and friends partner up and circle the couple. When the chant begins, members move in counterclockwise motion around the couple, representing the imperfection of human beings and marriage. During the chant, the chanter will cue the dancers to lift their locked pinkies and switch places.

CHOCTAW JEWELRY is a contemporary expression of the artist from the colors to the style and design of the pieces. The jewelry chosen for the shoot was handcrafted by members of the family. The shawls are considered an accessory to the ensemble, and the design can vary with a multitude of colors and embroidery. The women that made the shawls, dress and shirt seen here are the small remainder of Choctaw designers left in Oklahoma. Newly made shawls are becoming alarmingly few and far between; however, the craft of Native American jewelry making is continuing to grow.

“I wanted to create something that featured healthy-looking, radiant skin as a backdrop for the clear focal point of the look – her eyes. In order to achieve this, I prepped her skin with a combination of a rich moisturizer and a soft liquid highlighter. I used a lightweight foundation coupled with a few cream and liquid products to perfect her complexion (which really didn’t need much help) while keeping a fresh, skin-like finish. I used powder intentionally, placing it only where I wanted to knock back a bit of the shine. For her eyes, metallic anthracite and bronze cream shadows melted softly with plum shadows to create a delicate, hazy look. I wanted her lashes to take a backseat, so I used a light coat of mascara to deepen the lashes. A glossy, neutral lip topped everything off.“

“We wanted to create a modern Gatsby look to go with the beautiful and unique vibe The Yale Theater offers, so we did a modern take on a Hollywood wave. For the makeup, we merged Twiggy’s 60s look with Gatsby’s Daisy and went with a soft, subtle grey-cut crease. The model was given perfected glowy skin and petal pink cheeks and lips for a stunning reimagined flapper look!”

“For Fallon’s makeup on this shoot, we wanted it to be really dialed down and natural. Fallon has amazing skin, and we really wanted that to be the star of the show. We used a full-coverage foundation, concealer, pressed powder and blush, all from Arbonne, which I love because the line is entirely vegan. We used a Fenty bronzer in the shade Mocha Mami for her bronzing/contour, and used the same bronzer as eyeshadow in her outer corners and crease. To create her effortless glow, we used Fenty MatchStix in Champagne Heist and we finished the look off with Bobbi Brown creme lipstick in the shade Chocolate.” @profilebeautynook

“To match the overall aesthetic of the shoot, I wanted to keep Macey’s makeup fresh and glowy with a pop of color on her lips and cheeks. I used Nudestix Nudies Bloom in Sweet Peach Peony topped with Nars blush in Orgasm, which added the perfect amount of dewyness to the skin, and NYX lip liner in Crushed for that beautiful coral pout. Macey has amazing naturally curly hair, so my goal was to refine those curls and give them a bit more structure. I used Schwarzkopf Osis+Tame Wild Smoothing Cream and an OGX Hair Spray Wax to cut down on any frizziness and add a soft hold to the curls.”

The home of our shoot location is a 1930s home and has a streamline

deco style arc hitecture t hat we used as t he base of our inspiration. We wanted to incorporate a lot of color and ar tistic details. Instead of doing a literal interpretation of ar t deco, we decided to use subtle hints and use an ar tistic approac h wit h bright florals arranged in fun and unique vases, adding texture and dimension to t he tablescape. My inspiration was t he light shining t hrough t he woods on my proper ty.

It ’s magical, and I wanted to create a setting t hat just stopped shor t of a fair ytale. I love t he idea of a wedding on t he grounds of someone’s home and wanted to use unique places on t he proper ty for t he design instead of t he most predictable. I placed a table in t he moss, a ceremony under flowers streaming from t he sky and a cake in t he middle of a canopy of t he trees. I also wanted to spotlight a couple t hat has found love af ter years of being alone — a couple t hat was mature, ready for commitment but still wanted to hop on a motorcycle in an amazing dress and ride away into t he sunset.
