Emmet reuse plans in doubt The building had been targeted by healthcare providers for redevelopment By IGOR STUDENKOV Contributing Reporter

Chicago Public Schools is moving to sell off all of the shuttered schools as soon as possible – including Emmet Elementary School, 5500 W. Madison St. Last October, Ald. Chris Taliaferro held a town hall meeting on a proposal put together by a group of healthcare providers to turn the former school building into the Emmet Community Health and Wellness Center. Although the response to the proposal was mixed, the alderman said at the time that, if anyone else had other proposals, he would consider them. But during a recent community meeting, held Jan. 4 at the Columbus Park Refectory, 5701 W. Jackson St., Taliaferro revealed that all of that planning related the reuse proposal may be moot. CPS is looking to sell off all of the closed schools that haven’t been sold off already as quickly as possible, regardless of what local aldermen may want. Four charged in ‘Facebook live’ hate crime The video, filmed in a West Side apartment, has sparked national outrage

Four people accused of kidnapping and torturing a mentally disabled man inside of a West Side apartment building were ordered held without bail last week by a Cook County judge last Friday, according to media reports.

Jordan Hill, 18, of Carpentersville, and Tesfaye Cooper, 18, Brittany Covington, 28, and Tunisia Covington, 24 — all of Chicago — can be seen in a live video posted to Facebook last Wednesday kicking, stabbing, punching, slapping and taunting an 18-yearold who prosecutors said has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and schizophrenia.

During the 28-minute video, one of the four offenders says “F— Donald Trump” and “F— white people” as the victim, an 18-year-old white male, crouches in a defensive position, his hands apparently tied together with electrical tape. Last Thursday, the four African-Ameri-
