referendum supporters file their petitions Organizers expect signatures to be challenged By DAVID POLLARD Contributing Reporter
A group of Forest Park residents took the next step toward giving voters a stake in determining whether video gambling should be allowed in the village. Patrick Jacknow, one of about 30
residents leading a petition drive to get the issue on the November ballot, said he and other organizers met at Forest Park Village Hall at 11:30 a.m., Aug. 8 to file the 2,939 signatures they were able to collect to make it happen. To put a binding referendum on See PETITIONS FILED on page 3

Bringing the past alive, 8-Tracks at a time
orest Parker residents don’t need much of a reason to celebrate. Take the Annual 8-Track Party hosted by Joe and Joanne Donoghue on Aug. 6. Over 70 people packed their backyard to listen to oldies played on a device that’s been on the endangered list since 1982. The music evoked memories of sitting in a basement in the ’70s surrounded by black light posters. That’s where I first discovered the technological marvel of 8-Tracks. My friend’s older brother had a collection of seminal rock that shaped our musical tastes. Playing the tapes was so easy, compared to keeping the tone arm down on our scratched-up records (taping a penny to it helped). We no longer had to endure snap, crackle and pop, or lift the needle when it got stuck. During that same period, Joe Donoghue discovered 8-Tracks. He had an underthe-dash unit in his ’74 Vega, blasting “School’s Out” by Alice Cooper, on his way home from Proviso East. Joe had a case of 8-Tracks filled with The Who and other music now known as “classic rock.” Though 8-Tracks were phased out in the ’80s, Joe still clings to the format. 8-Tracks were invented in 1964 and promoted by the auto industry, with Detroit installing them in GTOs and Firebirds. Home tape players came out a few years later, and 8-tracks soared to become the most popular music format. They held an entire album divided into tracks. This meant that the track could change mid-song but we got used to it. There were other problems with the tracks. The tape could start doubletracking, so you were basically listening
Seek binding referendum from page 1 the ballot, the group had to get at least 25 percent of registered voters in the village to sign the petition — or 2,304 residents — which they surpassed. Jacknow believes their signatures will probably be challenged, but he thinks they have a big enough cushion of signatures to secure a binding referendum on the ballot. The village board would also have to vote to approve putting the referendum on the ballot as well. Over the past several months the issue of whether to have video gambling in the

Still, the 8-track remained the king of recorded music until it was dethroned by the cassette tape. Fans like Joe, however, have kept the legacy alive. He began collecting 8-Tracks 15 years ago and threw his first 8-Track Party in 2004. Partygoers brought tapes and players to the party, and Joe’s collection has grown to over 600 tapes. Most are over 40 years old and have languished in garages and basements. Some have been victims of floods. Tapes that have given up the ghost are displayed on a fence, known as the “Wall of Shame.” There’s also some “bad stuff ” in the collection that deserves the same treatment, like Don Ho. His youngest tape is a Wham album from 1984. “That can go on the Wall of Shame, even if it’s still working,” Joe quipped. Keeping the players working is also problematic. village has created heated concern and debate, with both the village and private citizens organizing separate forums on the issue and residents putting signs opposing the idea in their windows and on their front lawns. Bar and bar/restaurant owners in the village have lobbied as well, saying that allowing video gambling would make their businesses more competitive with similar businesses in surrounding villages that already have it. They contend that their businesses are suffering as a result. Jacknow, who owns his own real estate business in the village, said the bars and bar/restaurants were here before video gambling and not having video gambling shouldn’t make much difference. “They need to look at their business model again,” he said. “There was no gambling when they came here.”
tuted a hair band for the belt inside one of them. “The only tapes it will play,” he said, “are by hair bands.” Joe also has some excellent tapes by the Rolling Stones and Rush that have great sound quality. The crowd enjoyed these jams, along with good conversation. When someone popped in “The King,” Joe appeared with dark glasses and sideburns. He was dressed in a fur-lined bomber jacket. I don’t remember Elvis’ fur period but Joe quickly found it uncomfortable. Next year, he plans to hold another 8-Track party during the first weekend of August. He’s shooting for a hundred people to show up. If guests have trouble finding Joe’s house, they should simply look for the backyard fence with a Cheap Trick 8-Track hanging from it. ■ John Rice is a columnist/private detective, who has seen his business and family thrive in Forest Park. He thoroughly enjoys life in the village and still gets a thrill smelling Red Hots, watching softball and strolling through cemeteries.
If the referendum gets on the ballot, Jacknow and his supporters hope voters come out against it. He said some who were in favor of video gambling signed the petition saying putting the issue to a vote was the right thing to do. “They said, ‘I’d like to see it voted on because that’s our process,’” Jacknow noted. “I didn’t encounter one negative person.” Bar owners hope residents will reach out to them to get their point of view on the issue if the issue ends up on the ballot. Aug. 15 is the last day to file objections to referendum signatures. Aug. 22 is the last day for the village council to vote to allow a binding referendum on the ballot. The next village council meeting is Aug. 22. Sept. 1 is the deadline for the Cook County Clerk to certify a referendum for the Nov. 8 general election ballot.

Council swears in new deputy fire chief and lieutenant Chiappetta and Conrad fill out department leadership By ROBERT J. LIFKA Contributing Reporter
With the swearing in of Phil Chiappetta as deputy chief and Tim Conrad as lieutenant at Monday’s Forest Park Village Council meeting, the village Fire Department’s leadership team has been restored to full strength. The appointments of Chiappetta and Con-
rad conclude a series of moves triggered in June when Fire Chief Steve Glinke announced his retirement and Bob McDermott was promoted from deputy chief to replace him. Although he retired as fire chief, Glinke continues to serve the village as director of public health and safety. The final move will be hiring a new firefighter, which McDermott said he hopes to do by early September.
Family, friends and co-workers of Chiappetta and Conrad packed the council chambers Monday, just as those of McDermott did when he was sworn in as fire chief in June. Mayor Anthony Calderone, after administering the oaths of office to Chiappetta and Conrad, acknowledged the presence of nearly the entire Fire Department, asking jokingly if anybody was working and wondering what would happen if there were a

fire. He also noted the presence of several retired Forest Park firefighters “who came from the bullpen,” which he termed a “great tribute” to Chiappetta and Conrad. “Today both of you begin a new journey with new positions and new responsibilities,” Calderone said in congratulating the two. “Neither of you are strangers to the Forest Park Fire Department. However, after today you take on different roles. “Speaking on behalf of all the elected officials, we have all the faith and confidence in both of you to continue to operate the Forest Park Fire Department to be the finest. There is no doubt in any of our minds that with your leadership skills, it’s going to continue that way.” Chiappetta and Conrad both thanked family, friends and co-workers for their support and attendance at the meeting with the new lieutenant being more loquacious than the new deputy chief. Conrad told of following in the footsteps of his father, a retired Brookfield firefighter, who lives in Florida but “attended” the meeting via cellphone. He also singled out Glinke and McDermott among others, admitting, “There are so many people I want to thank, I know I am going to forget some.” Glinke was thanked for “being with me the whole way, teaching me” and McDermott for being “literally a mentor from the get-go.” Chiappetta, on the other hand, said simply, “I don’t have much to say. I’ll do my best.” Chiappetta and Conrad are longtime members of the fire department with Conrad serving for 25 years and Chiappetta for 15. Chiappetta started in the fire service as a contract paramedic in Berwyn in 1995. He switched contracts and came to Forest Park in 1997. The first firefighter/paramedic Forest Park hired in 2001, he was promoted to lieutenant in 2010. Conrad started his fire service career as a paid-on-call firefighter in La Grange in 1990 and joined Forest Park in 1991. Chiappetta has served the Fire Department in various capacities, including training officer and union president. State Fire Marshal’s Office certificates he holds include fire officer I and II, advanced firefighter III, hazardous materials technician A, and rescue specialist-vertical I, confined space operations. Conrad’s duties include public education coordinator, fire inspector, CPR instructor and union president. He also earned an associate’s degree from Triton College in River Grove in fire science technology. State Fire Marshal’s Office certificates he holds include fire officer I; advanced firefighter III; hazardous materials technician A; and vehicle and machinery operations. “I’ve been trying for a little while and I finally made it,” Conrad said. “I love you all.” Chiappetta will be paid $117,379.67 annually and Conrad $97,208.42.

Mixed on Music Fest from page 1 The responses of business owners along the main commercial street in Forest Park varied widely regarding whether those goals were reached. When asked how business was during Music Fest, a big smile spread across the owner of Louie’s Grill. “Great,” he exclaimed. Patrick O’Brien, the owner of Scratch Deli and Cafe and Scratch Kitchen and Lounge, took a big risk by investing a total of $1,400 in renting two spaces on the street with tents from Star Events, the Music Fest organizers. Did he make money after spending that much money up front? “We had a great experience at Music Fest for both locations,” he said. “We made great money, got great exposure for the deli and saw many new faces as a result.” Augie Aleksy, the owner of Centuries & Sleuths Bookstore, paid Star Events $200 for a space in front of his shop, bought his own tent for $100 instead of renting one from Star, and he still made money. In fact, he was able to sell 31 copies of a $39 book titled, Hidden Hemingway. The line to get ice cream at the Brown Cow on the Sunday evening of Music Fest extended all the way out to the sidewalk. FESTIVE: The crowds loved Music Fest II, but not all of the Madison merchants did. He rented a space in front of his store and also did well. Ivy from Girlicious said sales that day didn’t really pay for the space she rented from Star Events, but many people were introduced to her store by having a space on the street where her clothing was visible to fest-goers. The exposure, she said, was

worth the investment. Having done poorly during last year’s Music Fest, several merchants felt good about their businesses having normal days during this year’s event. The staff at Military and Police Supply, for example, said they did better this year than last, that they got business from festival-goers walking in to check them out, and they even recognized familiar faces of people who stopped in last year and came back. Bill Kroeplin from Forest Park National Bank and Trust was pleased the bank did not seem to lose business even though Madison Street was blocked off. He said the driveup window, which can be accessed from Hannah Avenue and was not blocked off, may have helped. Paulson Paint, right across the street from the bank, told the same story. Customers could get to the store via Hannah, so business for them was about normal. Peter Gianakopoulos reported that fewer of his regular customers came into Old School Records during the Music Fest weekend but many Star Event staff members and festival-goers did check him out, so the bottom line for the weekend was about the same as usual. Other business owners, however, felt the event hurt them more than it helped. Radana Kujova, for example, said her business was down by 80 percent. Part of it, she explained, is that her gourmet chocolate candies are not the kind of product you can display out on the street in hot summer weather, so her little shop was kind of invisible. The same was true for Jimmie’s Gourmet Popcorn shop. Madison Street Shoes, Team Blonde, Counter Coffee, and the Axcan Grill all reported that revenue during the weekend was way down. In all cases, they explained that blocking off the street really limited access. In one case, a party of six who wanted to dine at the Axcan Grill had to pay what
was in effect a $30 surcharge just to get through the entrance to the street. Many business owners said the event hurt them a lot because it doesn’t attract the kind of customer they serve. Rich Schauer, for example, closed Schauer’s Hardware and the Hallmark Store next door two hours early on both Friday and Saturday that weekend, so that he didn’t lose even more money. He explained that the exposure Music Fest brings to Madison Street does him no good because there is a hardware store in almost every town around here, so someone from Oak Park is not going to drive here to buy a hammer when they can get the same item closer to home. Jeanine Guncheon, who owns Gallery Etcetera, said business was so bad she is thinking about closing her store down completely for the weekend next year if Music Fest is held again. “It killed our business,” she said. “The people who come to Music Fest are not our type of customer. If they do come in, they say everything is too expensive.” Gallery Etcetera is, in fact, a high-end, one-of-a-kind shop, which attracts customers from the North Side of Chicago, as well as Hinsdale, River Forest, Oak Park and Riverside. They can afford the home décor items and unique merchandise in the store. People who come to Guncheon’s are not looking for sidewalk sale bargains. Music Fest, she said, does not attract that kind of clientele and causes those who would drive out to stay home. The staff at Knit Nirvana and Grant Appliance echoed Guncheon’s assessment. The fest did not attract people interested in knitting or in buying an air conditioner, so business that weekend went in the tank and new customers were not drawn to their stores. Art Sundry, owner of Caffe de Luca, said business was “down substantially” because the parking lot was closed in Constitution Court beginning on Thursday and the street was blocked off Friday through Sunday, so, as was the case with the Axcan Grill, access to his restaurant was greatly reduced. He suggested that the Chamber of Commerce should talk to the village consultant, Bridget Lane, to determine if this is the kind of event that builds the “brand awareness” that she envisions. Aleksy, currently president of the Forest Park Chamber of Commerce, contends that Music Fest is more an opportunity to be taken advantage of rather than a problem to be rid of. “We made it part of our program,” he said. “I rented a space from Star Events for $200, partly so I wouldn’t have another vendor blocking the view of my store. “I had musicians playing out front, had the Hidden Hemingway book signing, had the Historical Society bake sale going on inside and had Historical Society members giving out samples on the street. “It went well even with the access problems,” he said. “I let my regular customers know what was happening in advance and reminded people they could go out to eat at our fine restaurants after they had come to my bookstore.” Aleksy even coined a new term for his approach. “I was positiving it,” he explained. “My store was packed and, yes, I made money.”

Hard work pays scholarship dividends D209 students receive inaugural Kiwanis awards By JACKIE GLOSNIAK

hile much attention is focused on what’s wrong with District 209, two local organizations recently teamed up to demonstrate Proviso’s true worth to stakeholders by awarding scholarships to deserving students. On Aug. 3, the Forest Park Kiwanis Club and local community group 209 Together hosted a pizza dinner at the Park District of Forest Park’s administrative headquarters for six recent Proviso graduates and their families. There, recipients of the first annual scholarships were each presented with a $1,000 scholarship and congratulated by local district leaders. Gun charges for man who pointed revolver
Police were called at 6:05 p.m., Aug. 4, to the 1300 block of Desplaines Avenue after a driver reported that another driver had pointed a gun at him and was following him. Police located the caller and he was able to point out the vehicle driven by the man who pointed the gun at him in the Walmart parking lot. A police officer stopped the vehicle and ordered the driver, later identified as Kelvin Askins Jr., 19, of Berwyn to place his hands in the air outside the vehicle. Police said Askins did not follow the officer’s directions until he was asked a second time and then complied. Inside the vehicle, police recovered a Smith and Wesson .38 caliber revolver with the hammer cocked and loaded with six live rounds. Additionally, he was found to not have a valid FOID card for the weapon. Police also recovered about 4.5 grams of marijuana. Askins was charged with a felony count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, possession of a firearm without a FOID card, possession of ammunition without a FOID card and possession of marijuana. Police said the incident began when Askins began drifting in his lane while driving and the man who reported the incident to police honked at him.
Driving under the influence of drugs Police investigating a call about a driver who was possibly intoxicated at 12:17 a.m., Aug. 2, located the suspected vehicle in the Ultra Foods parking lot. Police said the driver was going in circles, and the officer watched the vehicle make about five complete rotations. The driver appeared to be dazed and didn’t notice at first when an officer attempted to stop the vehicle and then he stopped abruptly. Josue Roque, 20, of Forest Park was asked to step out of the vehicle and almost fell over while doing so. He denied being under the influence of alcohol or drugs and agreed to allow the officer to park his vehicle and walk home, as he lived across the street. However, Roque got back in his vehicle and drove away. The officer stopped the vehicle again nearby and Roque seemed not to remember speaking to the officer. He then refused to get out of his vehicle. The officer believed him to be under the influence and arrested him. Police said Roque refused chemical testing. He was additionally charged with two traffic violations.
Trucks, trailers, bobcats stolen Two Ford F-550 trucks and their trailers, each of which contained bobcat construc-
tion equipment, were reported stolen at 6:45 a.m., Aug. 1, from a storage yard in the 7400 block of Greenberg Road after employees found a chain cut and a gate open. The bobcats were later recovered in a field in North Aurora and the trucks were found in Oak Brook Terrace.
CTA employee targets co-worker’s food Police were told at 7:27 a.m., Aug. 1, that an unknown, disgruntled employee cut the electrical cord to a staff refrigerator at the CTA maintenance garage, 711 Desplaines Ave. The cord was cut over the weekend, causing employees to lose their food.
Burnt cross found A burnt cross was found on the rear door of a building at 12:20 p.m., Aug. 1, in the 7300 block of Madison Street. Police said the damage seemed to have been done with a cigarette and that several bottles of liquor and beer were found nearby. No other information was provided.
Radar, Kindle stolen from vehicle The burglary of a vehicle was reported at 4:45 p.m., Aug. 1, in the 7300 block of Dixon Street. Stolen was a radar detector valued at $142, a Kindle Paperwhite valued at $139, a flat tire repair kit valued at $78, a GPS unit valued at $100 and a backpack valued at $40. Police said there was no sign of forced entry.
Daughter’s wallet stolen A resident came to police to report a stolen wallet at 8:41 p.m., Aug. 1, from the Forest Park Aquatic Center. Someone had taken a stuff animal wallet from the girl’s backpack, with contained identification, a credit card, gift cards and $50 in cash.
Hit-and-run accident reported A hit-and-run crash was reported at 10:24 p.m., Aug. 1, in the area of Desplaines Avenue and Roosevelt Road. Police charged a 37-yearold Forest Park man with hit and run, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and operating a vehicle without insurance. These items were obtained from police reports filed by the Forest Park Police Department, Aug. 1-7, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Unless otherwise indicated, anybody named in these reports has only been charged with a crime. These cases have not been adjudicated.

Summer travel, with fall trips ahead
C
arol Byars is back in town. Remember Carol? Her most recent last name is now Robinson and she’s been living in Arkansas. Carol has been staying with her longtime friend, Karen Rozmus. Shown in the photos is a dollhouse constructed entirely by Rosalyn Leehey. Mrs. Leehey has incorporated some familiar artworks in her opus. Shown on the top floor is Vincent Van Gogh, recognizable by his yellow bed, red hair and missing ear (look closely). His bedroom will soon be ■ completed, green floor, etc. Down by the front door, we see American Gothic, father, daughter (I think) and pitchfork. The furniture and all the people were made by Mrs. Leehey. “Roz” is a gentle soul and allows visiting kids to play with the house and furnishings. More famous art characters are yet to be added. Forest Parkers are on the move this summer. Unfortunately, nowhere can you escape the intense heat. Fortunately, the heat has alternated with many very pleasant days and nights. Aulon Rahmani visited relatives in Kosovo, Albania. It was hot there, too. Scarlett Strickland delighted her Yia Yia in New Jersey when she came to visit (hot). A wedding in Niem, France was the destination of Mark and Cindy Waldron. The Waldrons were honored guests at the chateau where the wedding took place. They were surprised to learn that many years ago the city of Niem made extremely durable blue cloth used by sailors. This blue material eventually found its way around the world and into other items of clothing and was worn by more than sailors. We know this material, bleu de niem, as blue denim. As usual the Forest Park Community Center has exciting trips planned for the
fall. Get your reservation in as soon as you can. But don’t despair, there are always cancellations. The oldest continuous fair in the state of Illinois is the Sandwich Fair. That date is Sept. 8. Be prepared for a lot of walking. Enjoy the beauty of the area. There are rides, harness races, and an array of exhibits. All for a mere $45 (non-residents $49). Shipshewana, Indiana on Sept. 14. You’ve heard about this Mennonite sensation. Food, food, and more food. All of it delicious and prepared by the Mennonites. There is also a musical comedy included in your ticket. A lot of walking here, too. Cost $71 ($75). You’re assured a great day. On the 21st of September, Four Winds Casino and Resort brings you to New Buffalo, Michigan for $41 residents, $49 non-residents. Walking! On the 28th the always intriguing Mystery Trip, $75 ($79), but not so much walking. Happy birthday to Journey Alvarado on Aug. 10, also to Storey Novak and Connie Robey. On through the week it’s birthday time for Rebecca Greskoviak, Allison Pacyga, Jake Brown, Al Verri, Phil Jilek, Natalie Erickson, Dakota Staiger, Joe Davis, Grant Neubeiser, Reid Thompson, Colleen Murray, Rocco Cirrintano, Angela Tricoci, Kevin Nutley, Donna Prochazka, Tom Curry, and Sandy Boy. Happy anniversary to Edward and Marie Zamora.

OPINION O U R
V I E W
Let’s vote on gaming
W
ell the video gaming opponents pulled it off. On Monday at village hall, they turned in 2,939 signatures, enough to force a binding referendum on this never-ending topic on the November ballot. That is 600 more signatures than required by law, which is good because organizers told the Review they expect their petitions to be challenged. We understand that petition challenges are a legitimate part of this process. However, we’d point out that in the absence of any semblance of leadership from the village council on this issue, a binding referendum is the single best way to bring a clear resolution to this otherwise endless debate. The tensions within the business community, and then within the broader village, have to come to a conclusion somehow. While video gaming has for many months consumed all the oxygen in the public sphere, it isn’t the most important issue in town. Time for Forest Park to resolve this issue one way or the other and move ahead. However it goes, though, the petition organizing effort has been an impressive display of grassroots activism and congratulations are due to the organizers.
Proviso’s scholars
Congratulations also to six outstanding new graduates of our Proviso high schools for earning the first-ever Kiwanis Foundation scholarships. These young people, chosen from more than 40 applicants and representing each of Proviso Township’s three high schools, were honored in two academic categories. Three students demonstrated that “Persistence Pays” by posting strong grades throughout their high school careers. And three others were chosen for “Overcoming Adversity” by earning steadily improving marks across four years. These scholarships — $1,000 for each student as they head to college this fall — are the result of the good work of our local Forest Park Kiwanis Club teaming up with the 209 Together group to very quickly create this program, solicit applicants and raise the money to distribute. This is great because it is all so wonderfully normal. Through various means communities coalesce to recognize young people for their good efforts. That tradition had fallen away in Proviso where a raft of problems disguises the truth that there are serious students in our schools, that opportunities are real and that raising up those students for recognition is essential in inspiring a nervous freshman, and that nervous freshman’s parents, that the path forward is real. Forest Park ought to take pride that the impetus for this started with our local Kiwanis and the local District 209 advocacy group. We should be even more proud that in the spirit of inclusion that is at work in our high school communities these days that the money raised came from across Proviso and that the selection committee represented all of Proviso. This is a moment to celebrate.

he Statue of Liberty was a gift to the United States from the people of France. I knew this already, of course, having learned it as a child in school. Of course, I also learned that Europeans brought civilization to the New World and that dinosaurs were cold-blooded, so bleep you, River Forest schools. But that’s another column. Anyhow. I learned that the French had given us this green thing in school, which was nice of them, I guess. I don’t recall giving it much thought at the time — Louisiana Purchase and Statue of Liberty from the French, OK. Memorized, not contemplated, y’know? Let the dodging begin
Rotary’s first charity dodgeball tourney is Aug. 13 By TOM HOLMES Contributing Reporter
OK, so NBC won’t be covering the Rotary-sponsored dodgeball tournament this Saturday at the Park District’s soccer field in addition to covering the Olympics in Rio, but there could be just as much excitement, and front-row seats will be available to fans at no cost. Imagine the soccer field divided up into four dodgeball fields with eight teams trying to bombard the opposition all at the same time. Mark Hosty, one of the organizers of the event for the Forest Park Rotary Club, said he had to buy balls in four different colors, so when they stray onto other fields, the teams will know which field to return them to. The excitement begins with the opening whistle, or what’s called the “opening rush.” The six balls used in the game are placed in the neutral zone which is like the space between the blue lines in a hockey rink. When the person officiating the game gives the signal, the six players on each team can run from behind their end line to get the balls, which makes them quite vulnerable. The player who retrieves a ball must retreat behind the blue or “attack” line before throwing it at an opposing player.
As you may remember from gym class, s, the way you get an opposing player out is to either er hit them below the neck with a thrown ball all or to catch on the fly a ball thrown by an n opposing player. Hitting an opposing player in the head automatically puts the thrower out of the game. Twenty-four teams had registered as of this week. Represented on game day will be teams from the Forest Park Little League, Forest Park Soccer, McGaffer’s, Doc Ryan’s, Brown Cow and the Boy Scouts among others. Asked if he thought young men from the Boy Scouts could compete with adult playerss on other teams, Hosty responded, “When en is the last time you played dodgeball? They might be the best team out there.” Hosty added that winning is secondary y to raising money for charity. He explained that after expenses, every remaining penny will go to charitable causes. He also noted that the event is meant to be fun. There will be awards for best costumes and best cheering section. The Forest Park Rotary Club has been in the village for just two years. Organized by Hosty and Tom Mannix, it is categorized as a satellite of the Oak Park Rotary Club until it grows from its present 13 members to a total of 20. Dodgeball has made something of a comeback in recent years. The National Amateur Dodgeball Association official rules will be followed at the tournament on Saturday. In addition to posting rules there is also an NADA Code of Conduct: 1. Understand, appreciate and abide by the rules of the game. 2. Respect the integrity and judgment of game officials and NADA staff.
3. Respect Respe your opponent and congratulate gratula them in a courteous manner following each match whether f in victory or defeat. v There are also, believe it or not, professional teams that n play in the National Dodgep ball League, the original b teams being the Chicago Vent detta, the Seattle Bluedogs, d the Oregon Avalanche, the t San Diego Crossfire, the New S York Epic, the Texas Shade, Yo and the Georgia Scorchers. There was even a movie about Th dodgeball titled DodgeBall: A True dodge Underdog Underdo Story which came out in 2004 and was wa a kind of David (good guy) vs. Goliath (bad (ba guy) film starring Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn. Hosty said there are national tournaments held for amateur teams, but in this inaugural tourney, the goals are modest: raise money for charity and have fun doing it. “There won’t be a jumbotron at the end of the soccer field doing replays,” he said. Maybe next year.
