2‘nonconforming’ houses get retroactive approval Village mulls changing zoning code to avoid future problems By IGOR STUDENKOV Staff Reporter

Forest Park Village Council voted to retroactively approve two homes which, as the village acknowledged, was approved by mistake. Both houses were built on lots that were zoned R-1. Under the current zoning code, they must at least 50 feet wide, but the lots at 7713 Wilcox St. and 838 Circle Ave. are 25 feet wide. Neither property owner should have been able to build anything on them without getting a zoning variance. By the time the issue was flagged, they were already part-way through construction. In response, the village changed the review process to require a third party to review residential building permits – something that was previously only required for
