FUN THINGS TO DO IN LOUISVILLE
A sneak peek: What’s on the reception menu
To our darling daughter Pam, The day you’ve long dreamed of has finally arrived, and we couldn’t be happier for you. While we may always see you as our sweet baby girl, words can’t express how proud we are to be the parents of the lovely woman that you’ve grown to be today. We wish you and Howard all the best and are thrilled to welcome such a fine son-in-law into our family. May the two of you someday find yourselves as blessed as we feel today. Love, Mom and Dad
To our loving son Howard, First, we must brag on ourselves a bit. We are clearly great parents, as evidenced by the wonderful man that you’ve grown to become. And we’ve obviously raised a boy with great taste too – just look at the fantastic bride you’ve chosen! Bragging aside, we’re so proud of both you and your beautiful bride Pam on your big day. We couldn’t be happier for the two of you and look forward to spending as many of our days as possible with our wonderful son and daughter-in-law. May you live the blessed life you deserve and bring us lots and lots of grandchildren! Love, Mom and Dad

The bride: Pam Born in Walpole, Mass., in January 1977, Pam has always considered the Boston area home. She grew up in the South Norwood (The Flats) neighborhood of East Walpole and spent her elementary school years at Old Post Road School, where she first discovered her fascination with science. “I can still remember my fifth-grade teacher, Mr. Adams, teaching us about why leaves change colors in the fall,” Pam said. “I was fascinated then, and I still am to this day.” Her love for science continued through her days at Norwood High School (home of the Mustangs), where she was a member of the Spirit Club and the National Honor Society. Upon graduating with honors in 1995, she entered her freshman year at Boston College, where she majored in biology. Her top college activities included “studying, studying, and more studying,” along with frequent visits to Higgins Hall for her biology classes and to Conte Forum, where her beloved Eagles play their home basketball games. She graduated at the top of her class in 1999. Pam entered her current job, working as the assistant curator of mammals for The Louisville Zoo, soon after her graduation from Boston College. Pam says that she can’t imagine a job more rewarding than working with animals every day, and hopes to continue in her position at The Louisville Zoo for years to come.

As his friends and family already know, Howard isn’t your typical Kentucky native. While he definitely pulls for his UK Wildcats, he’s most passionate about their pursuits on the gridiron, not the hardwood. And while other Louisville locals follow the horse races, Howard spends his track time doing the running himself. Born in Lexington in August 1974, Howard lived in the same University Heights home until he graduated from Henry Clay High School in 1992. While attending Henry Clay, Howard says that he spent most of his spare time on the football field, where he was an all-state wide receiver. His gridiron pursuits kept paying off right through college, as Howard attended the University of Kentucky on a football scholarship. While playing for the Wildcats, Howard appeared in two bowl games (the Outback Bowl and the Music City Bowl) and lettered for the Wildcats. A 1998 UK graduate in sports medicine, Howard now runs his own physical therapy business in Louisville. “Athletes seem to prefer working with a physical therapist who also has a background in athletics,” Howard said. He also spends plenty of time on the track, where he puts in an average of six miles a day running.

Pam & Howard
How he proposed As Pam tells the story: “It was the last sunset of an unforgettable, week-long vacation in Cabo San Lucas. We’d been looking forward to this trip for months, and everything had gone perfectly – long, lazy days spent reading on the beach or relaxing at the spa, beautiful sunsets over the ocean to end each afternoon, and delicious meals under the palms or by the fire every evening. I felt especially spoiled this Saturday night because Howard was doing the cooking himself! He’d set a beautiful table with fresh boiled lobster, an incredible soup and salad, and even champagne. We watched the sun start to set while eating dessert (my favorite – grandma’s peach cobbler!), then Howard took me for a short walk to the beach. He took me to what had become our favorite spot at the resort, a place on the beach
where the Land’s End Arch frames the sun as it sets into the Pacific Ocean each evening. I was soaking up the sunset and the warm ocean breeze when I noticed that Howard was down on one knee. He’d obviously put some preparation into this, as “Marry me” was written inside a little heart drawn in the sand just next to where he was kneeling. Before I could catch my breath, Howard pulled the most beautiful ring I had ever seen out of his pocket, then asked, ‘Pam, will you marry me?’ I, of course, said yes without hesitation, and must have spent every second of the rest of the vacation with the biggest smile on my face. I will never, ever forget that moment. It was the most perfect ending to the best vacation I’ve ever taken in my life! (Although I’m entirely open to a return trip to try and top it.)”
