“In 6th grade, our school gave us a list of sports and activities we could engage in, and while everyone chose football, there was only one thing I chose-Martial arts. I started my journey with Tae Kwon Do in school. Over the years, I would let go of this rope, and try other sports. Badminton, football, basketball; I failed at every one. In the humid June of 2012, I bought a UFC poster from a vendor near King Edward Medical College. My life is a mystery, and sometimes it scares me. A relative from London ,years ago had brought me a gift similar to MMA gloves. And yet I never knew what they were meant for, until I saw the same gloves on that poster- It had hit me, this way my path” “Living in Balochistan was hard. Unlike Lahore or Karachi, life was very primal. The constant terrorism, and people dying on a daily basis made most people understand that everything was ultimately binary- you either lived another day, or died someday. The Alphas in schools subjugated the rest, and being an Alpha meant being strong. I was , for one, not an alpha. And I paid , what most would say was an emotional price of extensive bullying. I have no shame in admitting it; I was bullied to a very long extent of my life and I chose my path for one reason- enough” can, over time, become good habits. Martial arts are known to improve self-discipline. Developing this skill of being able to control ones mind and emotions can take quite a bit of time but a martial art can certainly speed up that process. Many see self-discipline as a positive trait that can help people to better succeed in a number of realms in their lives, from personal to profes-

sional.alongside a workout that offers not only head to toe results, but a certain sense of discipline and spirituality, it also equips you with the skill set to be able to defend yourself. MMA training is meant to help you learn to fight opponents. At times, these skills can come in handy to defend yourself. Lets see what inspired these boys to head out on this journey!

August 20, 2017 | 89

Best of all, it is a great way to get away from the monotony of working out using machinery. Whether you are just starting to hit the gym, or have been doing so for years, MMA training can help you. Where other diets and exercise regimens fail, MMA succeeds. It can help you in your personal life, with your performance, self-esteem, discipline, how you look, feel, and much more. Studies have shown that MMA training, unlike other types of exercise, works on your total body. We are not just talking muscles, you get a cardio and a strength training workout, all in one. Or, you can concentrate on one area more than others in order to tone and sculpt your body. Working out on a regular basis, in and of itself, offers plenty of benefits. But intense workouts like MMA training can offer you even more in the way of fitness benefits that
