What is the difference between Asad Siddiqui on his first project and Asad Siddiqui today? As a person, I’m still the same. Asad Siddiqui on his first project was naive, had no clue what to do and how to do it. Now he’s getting mature with age, getting mature with his acting, getting to learn new things everyday and learn where he belongs. Before entering the public life and the entertainment industry, what were your aspirations? - There were so many aspirations on my mind but I just couldn’t figure that out exactly what to do. But somewhere in my mind I wanted to do what I am doing today. Where do you see yourself in the next five years? - I really don’t know where I would be as this industry is very unpredictable. One day you’re on top of the world and the other day you’re no where. So I really don’t expect anything but I remain positive because I have immense faith in God. Who are some of your inspirations from the Pakistan’s acting fraternity — TV and film? - My maternal uncle Adnan Siddiqui is probably the coolest superstar of our country, who is very well known locally and internationally. I’m very proud of what he has achieved. He’s my
inspiration because I have seen him up close all my life. Apart from him, Noman Ejaz, Humayun Saeed, Faysal Qureshi to name a few. They all are brilliant. Any potential colleagues you want to work with and why? - First and foremost, I want to work with Zara Noor Abbas, who happens to be my wife also. I have seen her acting and she’s phenomenal. What is the decisive factor for you when it comes to choosing a role? - The only factor for me is if my character is pivotal and how it affects the storyline. The character should be of substance, regardless of whether it’s a positive or negative character. You are part of an ensemble cast for Pakistan’s first digital series on Eros. For an industry with so much focus on television and cinema, how do you see this development to digital media? - Alhumdolillah I’m very honoured to be a part of Pakistan’s first web series for an international platform. The way people are getting into the digital business, I see it flourish very quickly. Unfortunately, we are a little late into this field compared to the rest of the world. But wo kehte hain na der aye durust aye, InshaAllah it will be great because digital is the future!
What is that one iconic character you want to play and why? - I have a few iconic characters which I want to portray: a serial killer, war hero, warrior’s character like Vikings or any similarly interesting characters from different periods of history. How much room for more progressively themed stories is there in our entertainment industry? - Well, there’s a lot of room but we are not ready to experiment new stories. Recently I have started seeing a few unusual stories. Our channels needs to start experimenting. Our production houses need to take a stand to think out of the box and convince the channels to step out of their comfort zone. What do you think creates good chemistry between two lead actors, male and female? - Their mental level; if they are on the same page, and have the same level of determination and passion for their work. To date, who has been your favorite costar? You can name more than one. - I like all of my co stars as long as they are truthful to their work. Right now I’m working with Sohai Ali Abro and Mehwish Hayatand they are fantastic. Where is our entertainment industry headed in the immediate future? - It’s going to reach to the skies like never before. Our industry is booming day by day. We have great tv shows, our movies are doing well and now we are stepping into digital to compete with others internationally. Few more years and we’ll be on the bright side.
PERSONAL Your hometown Karachi is a cornerstone in producing acting legends - growing up here and now being in the public eye, how has that transition been? - It’s fantastic, Alhumdolillah I’m so blessed with what I am today. It feels great. I hope I become what I long for and take this legacy forward. At times it’s so unreal when you go out and see people screaming your name and talking about you. Please share one significant moment from early life that had a lasting effect on you - and why. - Alhamdolillah my life has gone really smooth. My parents have given everything to us. There are a few principles which can’t be compromised on and that’s respect for your elders, be humble and never take advantage of anyone. What would you be if you were not an actor? - I don’t know, I never thought of anything apart from being an actor. There were times when I wanted to be in an advertising agency, then there were times when I wanted to be a banker or chartered accountant. So yeah, I think deep down I always wanted to be what I am today. Tell us about your family... Who is your best friend at home? - Family is everything to me. My whole family is my best friend because I share everything with everyone. There are zero secrets between me and my family. I love my family. So much work, so many fans. How do you balance a family life alongside? - It’s the love from the fans that made me what I am today so of course I would always respect them and make sure to respond to them however I can. I have designated a day and that’s Sunday which is specifically for family. No work no nothing. Just family! If there is one thing you want your fans to hear, now is the time to say it! - I love you all! We are because of your love and support. Thank you so much. Stay humble and be respectful always!

Humda Qureshi Artist
What does the word Art mean to you?
There is so much more to this tiny three letter word Art. For me, Life is art. I feel like I am surrounded by art all the time, may it be the chipped wall paint on an old building or the water stains on my glass windows, every imperfection attracts me. Everything around me seems to have an energy that inspires me to create a new piece. Our imagination is truly expressed through art. Art is a creative expression that has the ability to tell a story and influence others through its many forms.
What kind of technique and mediums do you mostly work with? My mediums include acrylic paints, ink, white pen and acrylic markers on canvas. In terms of techniques, all of my art work is miniature, emphasising details with fine brushes (which sometimes I make myself with my own hair, as crazy as it may sound, it truly gives the best results!)
January 27, 2019 | 42
How did your interest in the field develop? Share a little bit about your background.
There wasn’t any particular time when I suddenly developed an interest in painting to be honest. For as long as I can remember, I’ve always admired art. I feel like art grew with me. As I was getting older, I started to explore surrealism. My father was an engineer/businessman who utilised his inborn artistic skills to create sketches of machinery without the help of any special tools, and my grandfather was a calligraphist. I’ve always admired these two men in my life and learned so much from them.
Each miniature art piece has its own story. May it be the Renaissance period, Marvel heroes, Disney characters or my imagination driving me crazy. Mostly this art work is influenced by fictional characters, fantasy and surrealism. When creating other themes, as I mentioned earlier, my surroundings inspire me and influence me to create something extraordinary out of the ordinary.
weekend | Fashion
What is your work influenced by?
If your pieces were a person how would you describe them? Wacky, quirky; a serious person with juvenile traits.
Is there anyone or any place in particular you would like to create a piece for?
I would love to paint a miniature Mona Lisa, on the original Mona Lisa at the Louvre Museum. Is that wishful thinking? *Name a few artists who inspire you.
Oh there are so many artists that inspire me in such different ways. The list is super long but to name a few, I love Jeff Koons, Frida Kahlo, RenĂŠ Magritte, Salvatore Dali, Picasso, Basquiat and the list goes on.
All of my work has different themes and symbols. Most of my art work with the animal heads symbolises the innocence of a wild animal juxtaposed with a sinful human body. The colours are symbolic in my pieces, from the dark concrete background to the stained splashy paintings, they all depict different moods.
In what way do you think your art impacts you or society at large?
If you see my artwork from a distance it may appear to be a simple

painting with unnoticeable details (like the single tiny character in the middle) But as you come closer and closer, you’ll notice that there’s depth to the painting, and that tiny miniature character has a lot more to tell than it would appear from afar. One of the impacts I would hope my art has on society is that our view and judgement is not based on distant observations.
Where does Art in Pakistan stand today and in what way do you think it should evolve? Art in Pakistan has definitely evolved in the past few years. New genres are welcomed and appreciated with open arms, which I feel is great progress towards growth in this field. I would hope to see more acceptance of art as a subject that can be chosen as a career path as well
as opportunities in this field for the young generation.
January 27, 2019 | 44
What is your ultimate vision as an artist?
There is so much more that I want to explore and I feel a having an ultimate vision would limit my imagination as an artist. Having said that, I want my art to be viewed, understood and loved the way I see, appreciate and understand it. There is still a lot I want to achieve. The sky is truly the limit!
