MATERNITY STYLE SHOPPING TIPS 1. Shop sparingly and wear what you have till the last possible moment. Get a few maternity basics that you can combine with your regular clothes because you’ll be wearing them for less than a year and may not want to see them again…till your next baby or not at all. 2. Invest in comfortable footwear because switching up your heels for comfier pairs is worthwhile. Along with sporty footwear like sneakers, embrace the athleisure trend because once you go down the legging route, you will never look back. Stretchy, versatile and comfortable, they also go with everything. 3. Don’t get rid of everything once you’re done being pregnant— save your maternity clothes because you will need them for a little while after the baby is born. Give yourself time to fit back into your old clothes, till then remain comfortable in your looser clothing!

MEGHAN MARKLE from the moment she married Prince Harry, the whole world was on Royal Bump Watch for Meghan Markle. Kensington Palace finally announced the pregnancy mid October and ever since we have all been fascinated by the Duchess’s fashion. Will she copy sister in law Kate Middleton or carve her own maternity style in a world full of fashionable options? So far, her style hasn’t changed too much, she’s chosen neutral coloured empire waist dresses and sleek trousers. We definitely think her style will remain conservative-but-not-dowdy which has been her vibe since day one with a bit of leggy display thrown in for good Hollywood measure. SANIA MIRZA Indian tennis star and wife to Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik, Sania Mirza left no stone unturned when it came to her maternity style. Her style ranged from casual and comfortable to chic Eastern wear, including long and flowing silhouettes that showed off her growing bump nicely. She definitely proved herself to be a style star off the court!

PIPPA MIDDLETON

We may all know her from her jaw-dropping maid of honour dress at sister Kate Middleton’s wedding but Pippa has become quite the style star since. Her maternity style was all about mid to long length dresses that barely showed off her bump but ensured she was chic and comfortable.

LOCAL STYLE STARS TO INSPIRE YOUR MATERNITY STYLE

EVA LONGORIA For first time mum Eva Longoria, maternity style was all about flaunting her baby bump. The actress showed off comfortable and fashionable looks during her pregnancy whether she was on the red carpet or out and about in LA.

CHRISSY TEIGEN Like everything else she does (including cooking) Chrissy Tiger’s maternity style was also sexy. She had some skinbaring red carpet looks along with some super feminine chic ones that didn’t deviate too much from her signature style. We appreciate that she didn’t let pregnancy get in the way of fashion.

CELEBRITIES WHO HAVE SPOKEN ABOUT FERTILITY, SOMETHING THAT ISN’T TALKED ABOUT MUCH

The Girls star said she was optimistic about having children in the future, following her recent hysterectomy. The actress chose to undergo surgery after suffering from endometriosis. She said she will pursue alternative methods of becoming a mother, with women having plenty of choices now.

CHRISSY TEIGEN

We love Chrissy’s candid nature and that she is unafraid to address even personal issues like fertility. The star has been outspoken about her infertility experiences and revealed she underwent IVF to conceive daughter Luna and second child Miles. The star said “sometimes it’s just harder for some people than for others.”

KIM KARDASHIAN

The reality star used a gestational surrogate to carry her third child, baby Chicago since the star was unable to carry any more children after experiencing complications and developing placenta accreta during her first two pregnancies.

MICHELLE OBAMA In an interview promoting her forthcoming memoir, the former First Lady shared that she and Barack Obama struggled with infertility, had a miscarriage and used IVF to have their two daughters, Malia and Sasha.

NICOLE KIDMAN

The Big Little Lies star and former wife of Tom Cruise said she had a “rollercoaster ride with fertility” explaining that she and Cruise chose to adopt their children Isabella and Connor after struggling to conceive. She was able to conceive her daughter Sunday Rose with husband Keith Urban naturally but struggled to fall pregnant again so chose to use a gestation surrogate to carry her daughter Faith.

SAY GOODBYETO DRY SKIN 7 tried and tested organic local beauty products to tackle dry winter skin

Aura’s Revive Face Oil

We are huge fans of all things Aura. The Revive Oil is a blend of pomegranate seed oil and apricot oil in a 30 ml bottle that offers your skin necessary nourishment through the dry spell of winter. Revivereplenishes dry, dehydrated skin, promotes elasticity, prevents sun damage, evens out skin-tone and restores the skin’s natural moisture. The oil smells a little pungent to some, with a slightly stronganaar-daana like scent, but that’s how you know this stuff is the real deal.

The Reading Room

Sea Prayer

by Khaled Hosseini Reviewed by Asmara A. Malik

(

@TheDoctorReads )

nove,Mber 18, 2018 | 70

It’s hard to review a book that’s shorter than the entire length of your review.

I

t’s even harder to remain objective in reviewing a book that was inspired by the haunting death of Alan Kurdi, the three-year-old toddler whose body was found lying on the shores of a Turkish beach in 2015. Ask any parent and they’d tell you: that small body could’ve been their own son or daughter, lying there as though sleeping, tuckered out after a long day of playing. Except Alan Kurdi would never wake up, would never grow up. A common argument I saw online, in the wake of Alan Kurdi’s drowning was what kind of parent puts their child on a boat like that? The answer is best found in Mohsin Hamid’s ‘Exit West’: a parent who’s so terrified of what’s happening on their own homeland that the sea offers an escape. Like Moses’s mother when she cast him in the waters of the Nile, you hope your child will find sanctuary and a better place to call home. But this is no longer the era of miracles or faith, is it? Khaled Hosseini taps into that same feeling of powerlessness, like Mohsin Hamid did in

‘Exit West’, in a brief narrative poem titled ‘Sea Prayer’, in which a father tells the story of his past to his young son, as they wait on the murky shores of an uncertain future. While many die-hard Hosseini fans will be disappointed in the fact that this is not the novel they were looking forward to, you can rest assured that this slim little book is not by any means redundant: proceeds from the purchase of each copy support the work of the UNHCR and Mr Hosseini’s own charitable foundation. Even on its own, this little book is one that you’ll find yourself thinking about long after you’ve finished the last page. It’s certainly one that made me deeply appreciative of the blessings I have in my life and the fragile peace that keeps the real horrors of the world at bay.

I have heard it said we are the uninvited. We are the unwelcome. We should take our misfortune elsewhere. But I hear your mother’s voice, over the tide, and she whispers in my ear, “Oh, but if they saw my darling. Even half of what you have. If only they saw. They would say kinder things, surely.”
