OCTOBER 28, 2018 | 44

The Exhibit is back! Sania Ali & Alyzeh Rahim Shirazi; The pioneers of multibrand and bridal expos are ready for the next Bridal & Lifestyle Expo taking place on Thursday, 1st November, 2018 from 12-8 pm at Mezbaan marquee, Hali Road Lahore. Whether you are a bride or just attending weddings this season, there is something for everyone at this expo! You will find bridals, luxury pret and pret, Jewellery, interiors, cosmetics, videographers, make up artists, event planners and caterers! Not to mention Indian designers for the first time ever: The super popular Pankaj & Nidhi and Payal Singhal amongst others. Other

designers include: Kamiar Rokni, Meeras by Nilofer Shahid, Farida Hasan, Kit & Kaboodle, Strata by Yousef Shahbaz, Amrapali Jaipur and many many more! The Style Journal is the official blog partner! Free entry for all!

What is the philosophy behind the exhibit? Alyzeh Rahim Shirazi: To have a solid platform for both established and upcoming designers to

showcase their collections. To have a range of things to shop for each season from clothing, interiors, Jewellery, accessories, cosmetics and even food!! Sania Ali: We wanted to bring lots of brands under one roof so it’s a satisfying and less time consuming shopping experience. Also, we wanted to promote brands that don’t have shops or cannot afford expensive marketing to come forward and become well known. When did you start this venture and why?

jewellery, accessories, luggage, caterers, make up artists, event planners, videographers - the list is long!! SA: The upcoming event will have lots of designers that are exhibiting their bridal as well as pret collections. We have many famous home interior brands that are bringing great deals to the expo as well. Everything related to weddings from makeup to event planners will be available at the expo. How difficult is it to manage a enterprise like this where you have to bring together so many names under one roof? ARS: It’s tough but we have mastered it now! Whilst we have a team we are very hands on, we communicate directly with all our vendors as much as we possibly can. Organisation is key! SA: It is very time consuming and we

OCTOBER 28, 2018 | 45

ARS: We started back in 2014, we came together because we both had brands of our own and thought the best way to maximise footfall and mileage would be through having a multibrand one shop stop. SA: We started this 3-4 years ago and I have already mentioned why we started it. Are there any specific kind of brands you focus on promoting? ARS: We focus on promoting both well established brands and new ones, it’s tough when you’re a new brand and don’t always have the funds to exhibit in a large way and that is what we are here for also! We also love interiors and that’s always a huge part of all our exhibits, the shoppers love shopping for home accessories too. SA: We promote everyone through our holistic marketing approach. What can we expect from the upcoming event? ARS: We are pioneers in Bridal Expos, we had the very first one in Pakistan back in 2016 and have been having one once every year since. However, whilst this is a perfect one shop

need to be super organised. What kind of feedback have you received so far? ARS: It’s a great model, MashaAllah and we’ve had so many thus far and there continues to be demand for it, we really enjoy what we do. SA: This is our 25th expo MashaAllah and we have been the pioneers in bringing these type of expos to Pakistan. We have received a lot of support and appreciation from visitors as well as brands that participate with us. How do you plan on expanding the business? Where is the exhibit headed in the next five years? ARS: We want to focus on taking it to the next level in terms of marketing! We also want to focus on going to more cities abroad. The Exhibit London is one of my favourite events of the year and we host it at the Bvlgari Hotel In Knightsbridge once a year. SA: We already have the Exhibit internationally as well and want to cover more and more cities around the world so we can promote Pakistani work. What does a regular day for the two of you look like? ARS: We have other businesses as well to focus on as well as our

families and children. So it basically revolves around that! It’s good to have a routine as well. SA: Taking care of family and making sure our work commitments are met is what comprises our work day primarily. Let’s get to know you better. What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done? ARS: The craziest is yet to be done!! Name something on your bucket list. SA: Hmm..answering these questions! Name something on your bucket list. SA: Haven’t even thought of a bucket list Something you’ll never compromise on? ARS: There are a lot of things I would never compromise on! SA: Ethics Something you always take time out for? Success ComesWith Sacrifice

October 28, 2018 | 62

Shaukat Khanum Hospital Media Cell The phrase “Success comes with Sacrifice”, has far deeper meanings for me and a lasting impact on my personality than any other thing in my life. My name is Osama Shahzad and I am a cancer survivor that faced the traumatic experience of blood cancer twice and have not only recovered but defeated it. I am 20 years old. We are two brothers and two sisters. I am the third in line. We live in thesouthern outskirts of Lahorein a joint family system along our maternal relatives. My father is a lawyer whereas my mother is house wife. About fifteen years ago when I was only five years old, I had fallen sick and at first I was diagnosed with Typhoid and later with blood cancer (Leukemia). The turning point in my life came when a senior doctor proposed to my parents to take me to Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Centre Lahore. He said that, “if he would have had his own son in such a state, he would have taken him to Shaukat Khanum immediately, it being the best facility in town for cancer treatment”.That is when I started my long relationship with the brick and soul of Shaukat Khanum Hospital, stretching over 15 years now. Initially it was not difficult to fight cancer. But with time, the pain started growing in multiple aspects. I was a child who had to grow in the hospital environment for the next three years. These three years were not even close to what a normal child faces in his early years of growth. Intense pain, extreme weakness and horrifying scenes become a permanent impression in my memory despite the fact that at SKMCH&RC the management and staff have done their level best to create an environment where a person’s focus does not remain stagnant to the harshness of his disease alone. Each patient is provided with different kinds of entertainment individually. Being a young child when I first came to SKMCH, most of my recreational time was spent at the“Play Area” for kids. Beside that I was also given best educational, character and psychological training by well trained staff present at the hospital. After three and half a year of

chemotherapies and other medications, I recovered from Leukemia and started living a normal life again. But my turmoil was not over yet. I had returned home not knowing that my disease will return within three years. I was living a healthy life again and had joined my school to be with my friends, and was occasionally permitted to play street cricket as well. Things were going smoothly and I had started to slowly forget the phantoms of my past life. Then after living three years with best of health, I started feeling loss of stamina. This behavior changed into a permanent stiffening of my back muscles and it became apparent that there was some serious issue to my health. When local doctors failed to identify reasons behind this health issue, my parents took me to Shaukat Khanum Hospital again. My bone marrow was tested and it confirmed that Leukemia had returned more aggressively. Aggressive issues require aggressive treatments. Although, at twelve year of age I was much mature than the previous incident, but my disease had also matured with time. The treatment included stronger dose of chemotherapy, having its toll over my weakened body. During treatment, a point came when my parents had lost all hopes of my recovery. I was admitted for past two years now. There was not even single peck of hair left over my body.

My skin had thinned and my whole bone cage was visible. At that specific time when I had lost all hope, my maternal grandfather came to hospital and met me. It was him that had showed me life through his eyes before and now it was time for the final lesson. He taught me how to defeat cancer. He told me that life is beautiful and I need to live it. The will to live is the key to defeat cancer. That night was the most comforting night I had during my entire treatment. Next morning my blood count started to rise and blood oxygen stabilized.By evening, my condition was out of danger and I was able to sustain without life supporting equipment. But on the other hand my grandfather’s health had started to deteriorate. Within next three days I had almost recovered from all possible threats and had started taking meals orally. I didn’t know that Allah had granted prayers of my grandfather and had accepted his sacrifice in return for me. My Grandfather passed away on the third day of my recovery. I can never thank enough the management, doctors and staff of SKMCH&RC Lahore for their love and support throughout turbulent time of my life, and I pray that it always keep on helping the deserving and poor cancer patients. As narrated by Osama Shahzad
