What is your brand philosophy? In one word: inclusivity. To us that means showcasing experiences of individuals from all walks of life and creating content that appeals to people seeking vastly different experiences. Our team reflects this belief, and our collaborative environment ensures that every member feels seen and heard.

weekend | Fashion march 18, 2018 | 64

How do you create content that focuses on the unique features of every place you cover? By paying attention to details. It sounds very simple but it is shocking how leading web platforms in the country satisfy themselves with producing large volumes of sub-par content. (Yes, we know we sound uptight.) Who is on the team? Shameel Mazhar (Editor-inChief) and Shahjahan Mazhar (COO) are the co-founders of C+G. Aiman Chaudhary joined the founding team as the Managing Editor. Immad Raja is the PR and Marketing Director, and Zeshan Khalid is our Creative Director. Urooj Rishi serves as a diligent Deputy Editor, and Rohama Akram is the in-house Visual and Communications Designer. We also have several specialized adhoc writers who write regular features and reviews.

Tell us about the reviews that are up on your website? Honestly, it would be a grave injustice to fit that into a tweet size response. Yes, we cover places to eat and stay at, and things to do, but we also put out creative editorials (from haikus to weird food combinations) and exclusive features on the cultural, historical and social nuances of the cities we cover. Where do you see Charcoal + Gravel in the next 5 years? We see ourselves expanding regionally at first, as we stack on exciting features that are currently under wraps. The ultimate purpose for this project is to create a global community of readers, writers, videographers and influencers. As a startup, though, immediate survival and validation are more important than 5-year plans.

A SPRINGTHING CRAFTSWOMENSHIP

A curated selection of fashion and home accessories, exhibiting on 21st March at The Nishat, Gulberg ZAHRA HIRAJ OF ZAHRA HIRAJ

march 18, 2018 | 70

Tell us about your brand briefly? Our brand is focused on providing our clients with unique, statement clutches that can compete in style and elegance with signature labels abroad. Each piece is meticulously hand-crafted using superior quality materials/embellishments. What inspired you to start? The inspiration behind my clutches was to amalgamate the conventional take on ‘the classic minaudiere” with a contemporary outlook; hence our slogan “Where Glamour Meets Tradition”. What is the one thing from your collection that we should be looking out for? Exclusivity. Each of our clutches are one-of-a-kind, statement pieces;

none of our designs are repeated and we have a whole collection to choose from so it’s basically a matter of what each client prefers. How do you manage to balance your personal and professional life? Any tips for all the working women out there? Being a woman is a balancing act. We’re all wives, mothers and daughters. It’s all about one’s courage of conviction and the will to succeed; the rest just falls into place. So kudos to all the working ladies out there; you make us proud.

SARAH NADIR OF CARTES BY PASHO Tell us about your brand briefly? A few friends have come together through this brand to find solutions for the Asian women’s wardrobe which are not only in line with the modern aesthetic but also on their wallets! What inspired to start your brand? To be honest, we started as we were never able to find cost effective yet fun and elegant Pret! So we went ahead and started experimenting with solutions. What is that one thing from your collection that we should be looking out for? This year we have focused a lot on artisanal hand embroideries and we have finally developed a product which is all hand made yet very affordable! I hope you guys like the product! How do you manage to balance your personal and professional life? Any tips for all the working women out there? Well I don’t ha-ha… but being a part of a

and details, tells its own story. Like true works of art, I hope that the audience will take away their own experience when exploring the pieces and they will make a lasting impression on them. How do you manage to balance your personal and professional life? Any tips for all the working women out there? Just like me, I am sure that all women trying to balance their very demanding personal and professional lives fight a constant battle. Unrelenting focus is my mantra! One has to ensure that they give themselves the best opportunity to achieve their goals. It is also important to not be so hard on oneself, if you fumble, gracefully pick yourself up and keep that head held up high! team and very supportive friends and family I think we all thrive so seriously kudos to all those who love me!

march 18, 2018 | 71

Tell us about your brand briefly? Kiren Wahab Jewellery specializes in exquisite diamond jewellery and statement pearl pieces. What inspired to start your brand? The art and design world always intrigued and fascinated me, which led me to start researching jewellery and I began fixing old pieces. The resulting fusion pieces turned out fabulous and I knew I had finally found my calling! After that there was no looking back, I got a formal degree from the Gemmological Institute of America (GIA) in London in diamonds and pearls. I am very proud that the brand Kiren Wahab is known for its quality and design. As we know you are showcasing your collection. What is that one thing from your collection what we should be looking out for? Every piece in this collection is unique. We have worked very hard to ensure that each item, with all its intricacies

ALEENA AHMAD OF SPACES BY ALEENA Tell us a about your brand briefly? Spaces by Aleena offers bespoke and unique design and decor solutions. I love to curate the spaces that I am designing, but this is the first time that I am putting together an exclusive line of home accessories and I am excited to share my finds with everyone. What inspired you to start a brand? To be honest, it was my own space that inspired me to start my brand. For as long as I can remember I have been asked why I don’t do interior work - be it designing a space from scratch or redoing a room, or simply changing the mood of a room. When I started to put together my own home is when I realized that this may just be my calling. As we know you’re showcasing your new collection, what is that one thing from your collection that we should be looking out for? Accent pieces to dress up a room or simply add a pop of colour. Whether it’s a vibrant floral urn, or a pop art frame, there’s really something for everyone.

How do you manage to balance your personal and professional life?Any tips for all the working women out there? Till a year ago I worked a full time corporate job and that sometimes was a struggle. Now with my own brand I find that it’s easier to balance things, and I get to take my son along with me on all sorts of work related adventures. I think the balance is attainable - as long as you love what you’re doing.

TRANS-CENDENTAL

A proud moment in our history! Pakistan’s first trans-gender model, Maavia, walked the runway at PSFW’18 for Hamza Bokhari of Jeem. We are so proud of this controversial yet much needed initiative, needless to say it is essential for a country’s growth and progress for it to be more inclusive and accept diversity in all forms!

RAMPTO REDCARPET The oh so stylish Mehek Saeed wore this fun and flirty Arjumand Bano number from the ramp to the red carpet and we’re kinda, jussst a lil bit, totally obsessed!

ALLTHE FEELS HSY concluded his show with an emotionally pulling moment by bringing his mother on stage with him for the final bow; celebrating the ultimate “knight” and most powerful woman in his life.

WOMEN ONTHEVERGE Hira Ali Studios made a statement with models walking down the ramp holding Women Empowerment slogans! YES TO GIRL POWER, ALWAYS AND FOREVER!

weekend | fashion

Although she’s been on the fashion front for a while now, Rehmat caught our fancy in all the shows she walked the sassy walk!

PHOTOBOMBED

We loved this group photo of all the photographers of Pakistan’s leading weekly magazines! Weekend’s Basharat, Sani of Sunday and Kamran of Paperazzi strike a power pose and in comes Ali Xeeshan deliberately photobombing the photo of the photo-takers-collective =P

7

TRADITIONAL: THE TREND OF ALL SEASONS Rehan Bashir’s classic looks always have us smitten! There’s a lesson to be learnt here; traditional indeed, is eternally trendy!

8 9 10 FANNY PACKED

The belt bag seemed to be pretty popular with men and women’s fashion alike! As seen at Republic by Omar Farooq and Saira Shakira.

INSTAGRAMEDY Umar Khan aka Ukhano’s Instagram coverage at fashion week is always a laugh riot! We love how he can turn the most mundane situation into something silly, fun and comedic.

RUNWAY RODEO

A bit outrageuous for our taste but the crowds at fashion week had a ball of a time as male models danced down the runway at RICI MELION in over the top attires!
