Citizenship issue needs to be resolved Sitting next to Small Business Minister Michael McCormack at a function recently, he revealed that he’d phoned his mother just to make sure he wasn’t a citizen of another country.

She was already ahead of the game.

“I’ve pulled out your birth certificate and it’s on the mantle here at home,” she told him.

The citizenship bombshells that have rocked the Australian Parliament this year claimed another potential victim last week when Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce revealed he may be a New Zealand citizen.

Questions over dual citizenship have already forced two Greens senators to quit, Nationals senator Matt Canavan to resign as Resources Minister, and put the positions of other MPs in doubt.

And like Mr McCormack, every politician in Canberra has probably checked their background as this saga continues to unfold.

It is prohibited for members of Parliament to hold dual citizenship under the constitution, but is it something that should be changed?

Sure, there’s more important constitutional issues that need addressing, but this whole citizenship saga has exposed a flaw that has unnecessary consequences.

Barnaby Joyce is about as Australian as they come. Born in Tamworth, he is a fighter for rural Australia and Aussie values.

His father happens to have been born in New Zealand and came to Australia in 1947. Any citizenship Mr Joyce holds in New Zealand is purely a quirk of the system and not a measure of his ability.

And while I didn’t necessarily agree with her views or her PR stunts, Larissa Waters too was somebody who had plenty to contribute to Parliament but now finds herself turfed because of this ridiculous criteria.

As our multicultural society continues to evolve and develop, dual citizenship is surely something that shouldn’t be a stumbling block for people entering or staying in the Parliament.

Surely there’s enough checks and balances in place these days to dissolve any fears that a politician is doing the bidding for another country, or is in any way doing Australia a disservice because of a citizenship they didn’t even know about, or had no choice in receiving.

Nothing is ever simple in politics and I doubt resolving this issue will change that, but this is something that really needs to be looked at before we lose too many good people from our Parliament.

That was posted by a friend of mine on Facebook last week, as the marriage equality debate rages on ahead of the postal plebiscite.

This friend and I have similar views on marriage equality, but I still cringed a little when I read that.

You see as much as I support same-sex marriage, I can also respect the other side of the debate. In fact, it’d be hypocritical not to be tolerant of those who sit on the ‘no’ side of this issue.

My friend is preaching her views, and I presume a part of that is trying to convince others to share them, but wants to ignore the other side preaching theirs.

And this is the big problem confronting the ‘yes’ campaign – a lack of respect has the potential to lose those who have yet to make up their mind.

You cannot ask people to listen to you if you refuse to listen to them.

If ordinary Australians feel they can’t express their concerns without being labelled homophobic or howled down in protest, their next move may be a revolt against the grain.

Australia has proved plenty of times in the last 100 years that we’re a country open to change. Law reform has defined much of our current freedoms.

There’s plenty of ways to ensure this campaign – from both sides – is run without hatred and vitriol.

If either side steps over the mark, you can be sure it’ll have the opposite effect to what was intended.

Half century of adventures The Springwood Bushwalking Club will release a book to celebrate 50 years ERIN MAMO

pringwood Bushwalking Club (SBC) is celebrating their 50th anniversary by releasing their very own book.

Adventures, Friends and Memories is a 250 page memoir that looks back on the last 50 years of the club and some of the unforgettable experiences along the way.

Greg Hausfeld, one of the authors of the book, said it celebrates some wonderful memories and lifelong friendships.

“As a club we have done a lot of walks over the years in both the Blue Mountains and other parts of the country and the world,” he said.

“Along the way there have been a lot of friendships made, that have stood the test of time.

“Some people have been a part of the club on and off for almost the whole 50 years.”

Over the years club members have trekked far and wide to places like Nepal, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Europe and the United Kingdom.

“My wife and I trekked in Nepal, which was a great experience,” Mr Hausfeld said.

The Springwood Bushwalking Club is celebrating 50 years “The mountains over there are just so different to the landscape here and the Buddhist culture is very interesting.”

Back home, the Linden local said he enjoys walking in the Grose Valley and Wolgan Valley regions.

The club also frequently treks in the Snowy Mountains, has successfully attempted the Great North walk from Sydney to Newcastle, and recently visited Nitmiluk National Park in the Northern Territory.

With around 250 members at present, SBC will now officially launch their book on Sunday, August 27 at Kings Tableland

in Wentworth Falls.

As well as stories about travel, the book delves into conservation and pays special tribute to lifetime members of the club.

Mr Hausfeld said anyone who has been a member of SBC will enjoy reading and remembering some of the sojourns into the bush.

“I think those who are not SBC members will also be inspired to enjoy the outdoors in a similar way,” he said.

NSW Minister for Women, Tanya Davies, has moved to clarify her position after the Parliament moved a motion to support the right of choice for women when it comes to abortion.

Greens Member for Newtown, Jenny Leong, tabled the motion and Ms Davies said in Parliament that she was disappointed about a number of incorrect assertions that she believed had been made about her.

Although Ms Davies said she stands by her pro-life stance personally she added that she has made a sworn commitment to serve all women in New South Wales.

“I was disappointed at the prospect that the 3.8 million women whom I represent and whom I am here to serve might believe that I do not support a woman’s choice to select the best path for her,” she said.

“Secondly, I was disappointed by the member for Newtown’s bid to drive a wedge between members by ignoring the fact that there are different views on reproductive health.

“The decision to seek a termination is incredibly difficult and deeply personal.

“It is a decision that I believe should be made safely with the assistance of medical professionals and with all the information available to the woman concerned.

“Every woman in NSW has that right today and I will not seek to do anything that would stop a woman from exercising that choice.”

The pro-choice motion was passed unanimously through the NSW lower house and Ms Leong is now calling on Ms Davies to take steps to decriminalise abortion in the state.

Same-sex marriage – do you want it?

On September 12, Australians will decide via postal vote whether they are in favour of same-sex marriage ERIN MAMO

ecently the Turnbull Government announced that rather than having a vote in Parliament, everyday Australians would decide the fate of samesex couples and whether or not they can legally get married in Australia.

So through a postal plebiscite on September 12, the Australian Bureau of Statistics will start sending out ballots to homes across the country.

Speaking with the Record, Founder of lesbian social group Lemon Zest, Jocelyn Williams, said she is very disappointed by the government’s decision to hold a postal vote on the matter.

“Our politicians are voted in to represent their electorates and the vast majority of Australians want marriage equality, so it should be a matter of course to have a free vote in Parliament,” she said.

“I’m also worried that having a postal vote may lead to more hate crimes and homophobia, particularly towards our youth.”

The Blackheath local, who is currently single, said she doesn’t necessarily know if she would even want to be married in her lifetime, but would like to have the oppor-

tunity just as every heterosexual does.

“I don’t believe any of my heterosexual friends or family needed my permission,” she said.

“So I really don’t see why I’d need their permission, and I know that my friends and family agree.

“I totally celebrate when two people – either heterosexual or homosexual – love each other and wish to get married. I think it’s a wonderful expression of love.”

Ms Williams said from her perspective the LGBTQI community would prefer the money that is being spent on the vote be spent on things like solving homelessness, the community sector or upgrading hospitals.

The postal plebiscite will cost the Government around $122 million.

The poll is not mandatory but if you are registered on the electoral roll and have not moved houses recently then you will receive ballot papers in the mail.

The postal plebiscite will not flat out determine whether or not same-sex marriage is legalised in Australia.

On November 15, the results of the plebiscite will be announced.

If the majority of Australians have voted ‘yes’ to legalising same-sex marriage, there will be another vote in Parliament.

hardworking Blue Mountains man has declared himself a stunned mullet after finding out he won $100,000 in a recent Lotto draw.

The man, who wished to remain anonymous, purchased a one-number entry in the recent Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot draw.

While his entry was registered, NSW Lotteries officials had been unable to contact him to deliver the exciting news.

a week after he had won.

“I went online and I thought this can’t be right,” he said.

“But I checked it all out and downloaded the draw results and there it was.”

Still in disbelief, the local man said he bought Lotto tickets for over 30 years but never won big like this.

“You get the odd free ticket or $15 win but that’s about it,” he said.

The winning ticket was purchased at Nextra Penrith, inside Westfield.

Owner Shiv Vekaria said he was thrilled his Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot winner had been united with their prize.

“That’s excellent news,” he said.

Fundraiser to help Cambodia’s poor Friends of Sala Baï Australia will host a special dinner to raise funds for impoverished teens in Cambodia ERIN MAMO

riends of Sala Baï Australia are getting ready to host their annual fundraising dinner, to raise muchneeded funds for impoverished teenagers in Cambodia.

Held at the Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School’s (BMIHMS) Leura campus, the yearly event will see students and staff put on a three-course meal with all the proceeds going towards the Sala Baï Hotel and Restaurant School in Siem Reap.

Convenor of the event, Maurice Cooper, said the aim this year is to raise $75,000 for the Cambodian school.

“We want to continue our scholarship program and be able to increase the number of students from 100 to 150 next year,” he said.

Established in 2002, Sala Baï School aims to help the poorest of families, particularly those with young women who are fighting poverty, human trafficking and prostitution.

The school was founded by the French not-for-profit organisation Agir Pour Le Cambodge, and local Australians in the hospitality industry got on board soon

Mr Cooper said he got involved because he was impressed at how the project captured and focused on some of the poorest families in Cambodia.

“To apply for a scholarship at the school, a student’s family have to live off an average of $68 Australian a month,” Mr Cooper said.

“I’m passionate about Friends of Sala Baï

because it’s making a real difference to poverty and to the lives of young Cambodians.”

Through scholarships, young adults can apply to attend the school where they will get specialised training in hospitality and food services. They then will be assisted in finding employment in a westernised hotel.

Last month, Sala Baï celebrated the graduation of their 14th class consisting of 108 students.

On average, every Sala Baï graduate supports 10 family members through their income.

This year’s fundraising dinner is on next Thursday, August 31 from 6.30pm at the BMIHMS in Leura.

Tickets are $99 per person and include a three-course meal, wine, tea and coffee.

There will be an auction and silent auction happening during the event, where hotel and accommodation packages as well as restaurant vouchers and hampers will be up for grabs.

“I had heard about the Expo from my school careers counsellor and thought I’d go along and see what was available,” says second year plant mechanic Daniel Manicaro. “Dad’s a mechanic so I was used to helping him work on our own machinery growing up so I’ve ϐ scale. Happy Bloomday! Garden hits big 30 The Blue Mountains Botanic Garden is celebrating its 30th birthday with plenty of spectacular displays ERIN MAMO

lossoms are blooming at the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden in celebration of their 30th birthday.

The annual Daffodil Festival is currently underway in Mt Tomah and this year the gardens have been transformed into an extravagant sea of yellow flowers with more varieties on show than ever before.

Curator Manager, Greg Bourke, said this year the venue has 50 new varieties of daffodils.

“Adding to the 100 already on display, we will have 50 new daffodil cultivars across the Residence Garden, Brunet Lawn and Woodland areas,” he said.

“And you will be able to spot a few rare species throughout the Rock Garden.”

This year’s festival also pays tribute to the history of the gardens, which were once owned by French-born Effie Brunet and her husband Alfred.

In the early 1960s the Brunets, who used the land as a cut-flower farm, proposed that Mount Tomah be donated to become an annex of the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney.

In 1972, they presented the land to the Sydney Garden which was then developed

This year the 30th birthday celebrations will run directly into the garden’s busiest time of the year – spring.

From September, there will be an explosion of vibrant colour with 17,000 new bulbs out in full force, including Muscaris, Tulips, Crocus, Ranunculus and over 2,000 unusual other bulb varieties on show.

Mr Bourke said the Formal Garden will be a truly spectacular sight come spring time.

“All of people’s favourite bulbs will be on display,” he said.

“There will be plenty of whites, pinks, blues, yellows and this all framed by a vast collection of new deciduous Azaleas and Lilacs, some of which are not displayed anywhere else in Australia.”

The daffodil display is free to observe and there will be other activities happening in the gardens, including a discovery walk and a growing bulbs workshops.

As the weather starts to warm up, this is the perfect place to take the kids, parents and, of course, the grandparents.

Students create special possum cloak Aboriginal students from Katoomba High School have made a possum cloak in honour of their culture ERIN MAMO

o honour their people and culture, a group of Aboriginal students from Katoomba High School have made a possum cloak.

Prior to the mid 1800s, possum cloaks were the traditional wear for Aboriginal people in south-eastern Australia.

The cloak, which was recently made by around 20 female Indigenous students with three local elders, has now been donated to Katoomba High and will be used on special occasions.

Made from 18 possum skins, the students worked with the elders for over three months to design the cloak, sew the possum skins together and then burn the young women’s totems onto the back of the cloak.

Elder Susan Tate coordinated the project with fellow Elders Aunty Dawn Harris and Aunty Ellie Begg.

Ms Tate said the tradition is about connecting the girls to Country, putting them in touch with who they are and where they come from.

“You were put in a cloak when you were born and wrapped in that cloak when you died,” she said.

“As you grew, so did your possum cloak.

“A baby’s cloak was three possums, a grown woman had 23 skins in her cloak.”

Possum cloaks were used in earlier times for their warmth, as coverings during the night, baby carriers and for burial.

Decorated with traditional paintings, the cloaks also mapped the identity of their owner, telling stories of clan and Country.

When British colonies settled in southeastern parts of Australia, woollen blankets were given to locals who began using these instead of the traditional cloaks.

In the Blue Mountains, Aboriginal people were registered in Hartley by the Colonial Government through a process where they handed in their possum cloaks for blankets.

Last week, Katoomba High held a smoking ceremony where Elder Aunty Dawn formally presented the cloak to the school.

Newly appointed school captain Jordan Taylor-Colless, who has been very involved in the cloak making process, said the project has been great for the students because it’s made them think about the practices that their ancestors carried out.

“It’s important to acknowledge these traditions because it reminds us of our heritage and the story of how the practice was lost during colonisation,” she said.

Hearing loss – a social and economic cost things happen. You miss parts of conversations. It’s harder to keep up with the flow of a discussion when a number of people are talking. You annoy your family by making them repeat things and asking them what someone just said in the middle of the movie.

It’s tiring having to work so hard to hear things – whether it’s people or to or music. It’s also isolating.

The consequences can be serious. A new report, The Social and Economic Cost of Hearing Loss in Australia by Deloitte Access Economics puts the financial costs of hearing loss at $15.9 billion a year. $12.8 billion of that are productivity losses, mainly due to reduced employment of people with hearing loss.

It estimated that one in seven people has a hearing loss – just under 15 per cent of the population.

We need to look seriously at how we help these cope with their hearing loss.

The Report’s data shows that the money you invest pays a great return for each dollar spent.

A Parliamentary Committee is currently inquiring into the Hearing Health and Wellbeing of Australia and I’ll be looking closely at their recommendations too.

If you work or live with someone who is constantly saying, “Sorry what was that?” there’s a chance that you’re talking to someone with a hearing loss.

Most people are pretty comfortable admitting that we can’t see that well, although sometimes it’s only when the arm gets too short to hold a menu that people head off and buy a pair of glasses.

But for some reason, people aren’t as comfortable admitting that they don’t hear well and in Hearing Awareness Week, we should be talking about it.

I am perfectly happy to tell you that I have really shocking hearing. But like others who now wear hearing aids, I didn’t realise the consequences until I put those little buds in my ear and suddenly there was clarity! Sadly, many people don’t adjust to wearing hearing aids and they stay in a bedside drawer.

People have often commented that I look really intent when I am listening to someone. I like to think that it’s my radio journalism listening skills honed over many years, but actually I suspect it’s because I developed the habit of watching people’s lips to make the conversation just a bit easier.

Cops go online to catch criminals The NSW Police Force has joined Crime Stoppers Australia for Operation Roam 2017, to track down wanted people from across the country.

Police will use social media – focusing on Facebook and Twitter – to seek information from the community about alleged offenders who may have left their state or territory and are now residing interstate.

Operation Roam promotes the exchange of information, regarding wanted people, between policing jurisdictions across Australia.

This year, Crime Stoppers has compiled a list of 20 wanted people.

Operational Communications & Information Commander, Assistant Commissioner Kyle Stewart, said Operation Roam represents a national joint effort between Crime Stoppers, police and the wider community.

“The community is the key to the success of this operation and we need their support to help us capture some of the country’s most wanted people,” Assistant Commissioner Stewart said.

“We will be sharing information across our social media platforms, which have shown time and time again to be a very powerful communication tool. Within seconds we can share pictures and information with people around Australia; followers can then share our content, so the potential reach is exponential.”

Grants to benefit our region Not-for-profit community groups can now apply for grants of up to $5,000 ERIN MAMO

he Blue Mountains community is set to benefit from small grants that will support local projects and contribute to the vitality of the region.

Through a partnership between Scenic World and the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR), the Small Grants for Rural Communities program will allow not-for-profit community groups to apply for grants of up to $5,000.

The grants are set to address issues like poverty and disadvantage, health and well-being, and the environment in different communities.

Natalie Egleton, FRRR’s Chief Executive Officer, said that the program was developed to address a broad spectrum of issues.

“We know that every community has different issues and unique ways to address those challenges,” she said.

“So this program is designed to allow groups to apply for whatever they need to build strong, vibrant, and sustainable communities.

“We are delighted to be working with Scenic World to enable community

Historic decision I would like to lodge my objection to this Bill (Historic pro-choice motion passed, Record August 15). Life does matter, not just to the unborn but to the mother. One would think that the Australian Electoral Commission would be responsible for determining the eligibility of a person to stand as a candidate for parliamentary office. A questionnaire for the applicant to fill in and then provide the AEC with documentation to be thoroughly checked. Surely the AEC with resources form various Government departments e.g. Solicitor General would be capable of determining eligibility. But Government departments have a habit of dragging their heels when it suits them so a candidate misses the cut-off date.

Too many parties How appropriate was your front page headline “Party Time” in last week’s edition. We read that ANOTHER political party has been registered in NSW. Last election we had about 55 parties to choose from. The latest one is called the Australian Workers Party. I remember when wealthy businessmen and racehorse owner John Singleton launched another Workers Party in NSW. It was a bosses party, promoting the free market and capitalism. We have the Future, Sex, Cyclists, Pirate, Science Party plus at least 50 more. I think that most of these are just around for the party or the egos of their founders.

ast week I was in the process of terminating a contract with a company. The company with which I was terminating had been unreliable and on one occasion, unethical.

Upon hearing who I was transferring to, they sent me an email stating, “We are currently in the process of regaining multiple contracts from people who transferred to XYZ company earlier in the year, so I will make a note to give you a call in two months’ time and see if you are ready to come back to us”.

I was gob smacked! And I quickly replied: “I’d really prefer you didn’t call me in two months’ time. I am never impressed when people talk negatively about their competitors. I find it reflects more poorly on the person talking than the business in question”.

There are definitely going to be times when a carefully worded warning concerning a FACTUAL issue may be warranted.

For example, when we were getting quotes to build a pool, the company we ended up signing with had warned us about an unnecessary (and expensive)

inclusion that a particular pool company ‘surprises’ customers with half way through building. Sure enough, some friends were stung with exactly this scenario soon after we heard this warning, so we knew it was legitimate.

But even that concern was delivered in a fair manner (that is, they didn’t cast generalised, negative dispersions on the company in question).

A number of times I have experienced awkward situations when meeting new clients, who have sought my services because they are unhappy with a competitor (a competitor who I know has spoken negatively about me).

And although it can be difficult to find the right words, my replies are never directed at this competitor. I work hard to redirect the conversation to “the way that I do XYZ is this…”, making no mention of the other business.

My philosophy is that actions speak louder than words. I can tell everyone that I am the best, and better than all my competitors. But if the way I build up my business is to tear others’ down, my negativity will soon catch up with me.

Productise So you say “but I only have a service”, well my first solution to that is to productise some aspects of your service.

What can you offer that clients would appreciate, without you needing to be physically there to deliver a service?

You need ways to make passive income without requiring your labour.

Pricing Determine what your pricing values and market positioning are.

Do you have a price that is never discounted for instance?

Do you always loss lead in that particular item, to bring in higher value business?

Promotional activities Consumer activities may include markets, school fetes, pop-up shops, however, you may also target other businesses that deal with your target consumers as referral partners.

There is little point having the best product or service in the world, if no one knows it exists!

KEEPING BLUE MOUNTAINS RESIDENTS INFORMED ON WHAT TO DO AND WHERE TO GO

i t h t o d a y ’s political c l i mate it’s not easy to m a k e l i g h t of controversial topics like religion and terrorism. But Akmal Saleh does just that in his stand-up comedy show where political correctness is thrown out the window.

Akmal, who was born in Egypt and immigrated to Australia when he was 11, uses the contrast between his Arab heritage and Australian life to create a hilarious act that makes him a successful Australian comedian.

Although he draws on sensitive topics, Akmal is aware that what’s acceptable and what’s not is constantly changing.

“Society changes really quickly these days – more than it used to. Times have changed, attitudes have changed,” Akmal said.

Akmal explained that the nature of the joke is what is important when deciding how far to push it.

“It’s all about the intent – whether what you say carries hatred or if it’s just there to make people laugh,” he said.

And make people laugh is exactly what

he does best. With appearances on a range of platforms including the Sydney Comedy Festival, a stint in radio and time on ‘I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here’, Akmal’s objective to make people laugh has been achieved time and time again.

“My only responsibility is to make the people laugh. I’m not a preacher, I’m not a politician or a social commentator – I’m a comedian first,” he said.

Although nowadays Akmal’s shows are filled with audiences who know and love his brand of comedy, he explains it wasn’t always like this.

“When you’re starting out you do pubs, really rough clubs and perform in front of drunks,” he said.

“It’s a really aggressive environment and you have to make the most of it and make people laugh very quickly or you’re dead.”

Such an aggressive environment is how Akmal’s freestyle brand of comedy was developed and his show thrives off quality audience participation.

“Someone said to me once ‘you’re only as good as your audience allows you to be’, it’s a real relationship,” Akmal said.

“With comedy, it’s completely dependent on the audience and how they react to you.”

Although he still gets the occasional drunk crowd, Akmal delivers laughs, which is what you can expect at his show in the Blue Mountains next month.

Encouraging our children to eat more greens Getting our kids to eat vegetables is no easy task, but there’s plenty of unique ways to ensure our children are getting the nutrition they need...

Ask any nutritionist, dietitian or health professional what they would love to change about the eating habits of Australians and increasing our vegetable intake is likely to be at the top of the list.

With vegetables containing many important vitamins and minerals it’s especially important for children and adolescents to be getting the recommended serves each day, but unfortunately less than one in 10 children and adolescents are meeting the Australian Dietary Guidelines.

As any parent will attest to it’s not always easy to get kids to tuck into a plate of greens, which is why it’s great to see programs like Nestlé Healthy Active Kids helping to provide support to improve the eating habits of local children.

The program is currently giving primary schools across the country the chance to win The Kitchen Kart – a $25,000 fullyequipped, mobile teaching kitchen that allows teachers to deliver nutrition and cooking education in the classroom.

Developed in collaboration with the

Australian Institute of Sport, the Nestlé Healthy Active Kids program has also created an easy to use website that offers teachers and parents a great range of online recipes, tools and fun activities to help children live a healthier life.

One of the best ways to get kids interested in trying new foods is to get them involved in the cooking process, making vegetables fun and helping kids to explore what foods they enjoy.

“Every child is different and finding out what vegetables kids do and don’t like is an ongoing process,” Nestlé Market Nutritionist, Megan Darragh said.

“Talking to kids about vegetables, trialling them in different ways, such as

grating veggies into spaghetti bolognese or savoury muffins, and getting kids involved in the kitchen can be a great way to familiarise children with new vegetables, or ones they don’t usually like to eat.”

It’s also good to remember that while many kids will sit down to vegetables at their evening meal, there’s plenty of opportunities to add them to the lunchbox to help boost their veggie intake throughout the day.

I think he is the closest thing we have to an individual who can lay claim to having, off his own bat, founded an Australian wine region.

Both ranges are based on dry reds that retail for about $20 and hence come straight from the engine room of Australian winemaking — mid-priced wines that compete in perhaps the keenest sector of the market.

WINE REVIEWS Katnook 2015 Founder’s Block Merlot ($20): I often don’t like Australian merlots. Too many, especially those from the large companies, have been sweetened up to satisfy the American market. That isn’t a problem with this dry red, which has been matured in older French and American oak. It’s richly flavoured and I’m sure has the structure to mature for at least five years. Enjoy with a meaty casserole.

Riddoch Coonawarra 2015 Shiraz ($20): Coonawarra is best known for its cabernet sauvignon but I reckon it also produces some classy, sumptuous shiraz. This is a bold wine, with plenty of plummy, dark-berry, spicy flavours.

It’s the sort of red that would do justice to a fine steak or a rich mushroom casserole.

“As a football team we had a chance to win it in our own right and then we had to win it again when they surged at us,” he said.

“We’ll take a lot of confidence out of that.

We put ourselves in that position but to be able to win it again was probably the take home point for me.”
