THE INNER CITY WEEKENDER

t’s been another eventful week in the world of television and here’s what’s been happening…

One of the most highly anticipated shows of the year, ‘Being Lara Bingle’, premieres on Channel 10 this Tuesday. Okay, I’m hoping my sarcasm came out in that sentence but in all honesty, can this show actually work? The observational series will take a behind-thescenes look at the private life of one of Australia’s most controversial and fame hungry celebrities, Lara Bingle. I will give this show a go, like many, but time will tell if I, or anyone else, will come back week after week. Catch it, if you dare, Tuesday, June 12 at 8pm. Another show that begins next week comes courtesy of Australia’s favourite comedy duo – Hamish and Andy. The boys return to Channel Nine, this time with ‘Hamish and Andy’s Euro Gap Year’. The comedy series will feature the

boys’ travels and adventures throughout Europe and will be broadcast weekly from The Lord Stanley, a disused pub in East London. Last year’s ‘Gap Year’, which took place over in New York, won a Logie back in April for ‘Most Popular Light Entertainment Program’. ‘Hamish and Andy’s Euro Gap Year’ kicks off Thursday, June 14 at 8pm. Make sure you get comfy on the couch this Sunday for the free-to-air premiere of the new Tim Allen sitcom ‘Last Man Standing’. Allen plays a director of marketing at an outdoor sporting store in Colorado, whose life is overwhelmed by his wife and three daughters. I must say this is one of my favourite shows of 2012, having already seen the first season on FOX 8 earlier this year. The show is classic Tim Allen and is very much

like his old 90’s show ‘Home Improvement’. Have a laugh this Sunday, June 11 at 6.30pm on Channel 10. Forget ‘The Voice’ or ‘Dancing with the Stars’, there’s an amazing show which began on SBS last weekend called ‘Bollywood Star’. Inspired by the huge success of the Bollywood movie industry, this four-part series follows the search for an Australian Bollywood star. What’s so good about this show is that it is not only extremely funny but the judges actually speak their minds and are not afraid to make enemies. Make sure you catch up on episode one via SBS’s online catch-up service before episode two hits screens Saturday, June 9 at 7.30pm. Still with SBS, popular music quiz show

‘RocKwiz’ has announced a national tour. Join Julia Zemiro, Brian Nankervis, Dugald and the RocKwiz Orkestra as they embark on the ‘Some Kind of Genius Tour’. The mayhem happens at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney on Friday, August 31. Just a heads up to fans of rugby league panel show ‘The Game Plan’. The show is moving from digital channel ONE to Channel 10 in the next few weeks. The show hosted by Steve ‘Blocker’ Roach, Andrew Moore and Joel Caine will air at 8.30pm Thursday nights from June 21. The show features NRL players, coaches and administrators. I’m sure league fans including myself will be very happy that we now have two NRL shows to watch back-to-back on Thursday nights. How will ‘The Game Plan’ impact on ‘The Footy Show’?
