nmore gelateria Cow and the Moon has beaten off the best gelato makers in Italy and the rest of the world to take out the top prize at the Gelato World Tour in Italy last weekend. More than 70,000 people attended the Grand Finale of the World Tour in Rimini, Italy. The gelato artisans produced about 6,500kg of gelato and more than 70,000 cups and cones were sold over three days in the town’s Piazza Fellini. Twenty four finalists were chosen for the Grand Finale from qualifying rounds in Rome, Valencia, Melbourne, Dubai, Austin and Berlin. John Crowl from Cow and the Moon said the experience of competing, let alone winning the competition, was incredible. “The feeling of winning the competition on the world stage is a dream come true,” Mr Crowl said. “I have been involved in hospitality all my life and over the last 20 years I have dedicated my working life to the development of the gelato industry in Australia.” His winning flavour, Almond Affogato, is a Madagascan vanilla gelato mixed with toasted and caramelised almonds, Kenyan coffee and salty caramel sauce. He said as soon as the news broke in Australia, customers started pouring into the shop. “My shop has had huge lines out the door and down the street all day and the Almond Affogato has been made non-stop,” he said.
