A little Albo grease Grayndler MP puts economic case forward to voters BASIL NAIMET

M

ember for Grayndler Anthony Albanese believes the Labor Government has put in plenty of elbow grease to responsibly manage the Australian economy. He wants this economic record to be judged when voters head to the polls in just two weeks. He said Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has made good economic judgements that were vital in keeping the economy flowing, which the public should consider when voting. “I think Kevin Rudd got the big calls right, on having an economic stimulus plan and not just waiting for the recession. “We would have gone into a recession they [Liberals] said was inevitable – that would have meant more people out of work. We’ve created almost a million jobs since we’ve been in government. That is critical.” Locally he said business was booming in suburbs like Ashfield, Petersham and Newtown thanks to Labor. “You see a lot of economic activity, in spite of the fact that Tony Abbott has continually tried to undermine confidence in the Australian economy. I’ve been in this office for 17 years and there has not been as much economic activity on Marrickville and Illawarra Roads as there is today,” he said. If Mr Albanese was re-elected to Grayndler, he would continue to do his best for the region: “I think I’ve shown to be a conviction politician for my local community”. That conviction was shown when he helped remove Julia Gillard from the top job. “It was going to be very difficult if we didn’t make the change. We had a primary vote in the 20’s and you can’t win an election from that position,” he admitted. On the question of a second airport, Mr Albanese said he supported a second airport, but it was up to the experts to decide where. He did commit however to the location being either Badgerys Creek or Wilton with building to commence early in the next term.
