No one has approved an 11-storey building on this site. The community will have their say on this project when the expression of interest comes back. In relation to the initial four storey building Cr Phillips didn’t support that either. Now he is saying he wants a four-storey building,” Cr Macri said.

reens Councillor Max Phillips believes that Marrickville Mayor Vic Macri, has “ambushed” Marrickville Council by endorsing an expression of interest notice for the construction of a multi-storey building on the old Marrickville Hospital site. Cr Phillips said Council initially had accepted a four storey structure to be built on the corner of Livingstone Road and Marrickville Road. “The resolution of Council from December 2012 clearly specified that any building on the corner
block could be no higher than four storeys and open space must face Marrickville Road,” he said. However, the expression of interest, that Council has put out to developers, is unclear on the height restrictions. He said that technically, Council had allowed, under the Local Environment Plan, for the building site to achieve a maximum height of 32 metres. Th is height would allow 11 storeys to be built. “If the councillors weren’t serious about maximising the 32 metres, why would they seek to put the plan to tender for expression of interest from developers? We [Greens] want the corner site to stay in public hands and be a legitimate
