ith chil dcare cen tre places inc reasingly bein g sough t in the Inner West, Marrickv ille Counc il recently voted to fund a new childcare centre that will add up to 60 new places. It w ill be loc ated a t the si te of the D ebbie and Abbey B orgia Communi ty R ecreation Cen tre in South Marrickville. It is understood that long day care centres across the Marrickv ille loc al g overnment area are r unning a t full c apacity. Ma yor J o Ha ylen said the $3.2 million projec t will come as a relief for Marrickville families. “There are almost 2, 000 names on Counc il’s childcare waiting list, and the demand is only getting higher,” Mayor Haylen said. “Our recent Community Facilities study iden tified a despera te need for more Counc il childcare services, w ith an ad ditional 6 50 kids ag ed 0- 4 years expected to be living in the LGA by 2031.” The Ma yor said the projec t was the result of a longer term v iew Counc il took tha t formed the consensus for approval.
