WOMAN SAVED Two police officers have saved the life of a 36-year-old woman who was trapped in a blaze. The house on Cavey Street was well alight on Monday morning when police attended and heard the woman’s screams. They broke into the house and managed to drag her to safety.

arrickville Police Station welcomed four new recruits on Monday that will see them take on the challenge of working as probationary constables for the next 12 months. Education Officer Sergeant Glenn Smith from Marrickville Police said the constables would embark on a combination of academic work from Charles Sturt University and general duties as police officers. “They have a number of different sessions to

complete in the next year. They need to complete their academic requirements, and work in the station as well. There are a range of duties set out for them,” he said. The probationary constables will gain extensive experience in their fi rst year. They will get an insight into a raft of policing duties including domestic violence issues, car accidents, break and enter incidents and robberies. Although general duties will be their focus, the new recruits will venture into other areas of policing as well Sergeant Smith said. “They’ll be taking enquiries about missing

Th is is where they’ll attend multicultural events, parades and demonstrations,” he said. NSW police will have support staff on hand for the new recruits to ensure they are helped along the way. “We have field training assessment officers who are assigned to the constables throughout the duration of their 12 month probation,” he said. The recruits are four of 200 who will be starting their policing careers this week across NSW.
